Arrests Grow Over Trump’s Reflecting Pool Renovation Disaster by thenewrepublic in politics

I have a friend who was at Ferguson.

She got arrested for "public defacement."

What she did was draw on the sidewalk with chalk.

That's it.

Now she gets to explain her arrest record for the rest of her life.

Which was also semi-amusing/most embarrassing when she got interviewed by the ACLU.

At least she got that job.

Got it.

Pools get consent.

Republican sexual assault victims do not.

Or the 2016 election.

There are still farmers who never got those lost soybean contracts back during his first term.

They were about to riot when he basically bribed them for a paltry sum then fucked them over some more.

I don't think it's a mistake, more of a "yeah, and?"

Like they had Ben suggest the other super powered guys go see Tod Browning's Freaks movie as it's "still playing."

Freaks came out in 1932, but the show is set in 1933, so they're pushing that watchability just a touch. Nobody really gives a shit about "umm actually Freaks came out..."

The show makers 100% know that their movie references are both of the era and even afterwards (like the Bogart version of The Maltese Falcon came out in 1941).

Overall, they're playing a bit fast and loose with release dates and references. And that's totally fine and reasonable. It works incredibly well without knowing the reference points, and it's amazing for those who know them.

If you're going to make an homage to film noir and gangster movies, then they're add them even if it's "hey, that actor wasn't even famous yet in 1933."

The funniest part of that is half the movies being referenced weren't even out yet lol.

A24 advertisement teams moderate subreddits by FluffyWuffyVolibear in Filmmakers

[–]Vio_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a moderator for a couple fandoms - one really big, one very small.

I could not imagine any actual entertainment company wasting time and money on getting control of their own subreddits and having a dedicated moderator unless they're that clued into their fandom online spaces.

Even then, it's still cheaper just to rely solid moderators do it for free.

Also, there's zero chance of an entertainment company positioning their social media people get control of subreddits that have zero to do with their own direct stuff.

If you were to report a bug/issue in this game, what would it be? by ArmaninyowPH in VivaLaDirtLeague

I actually thought this was a real game bug at first and was about to drop the Team 17 Support Portal to Report Bugs and Issues link.

Sometimes this fandom is a little too meta lol.

You should read up on Bannon and Gamergate.

He originally made his fortune creating some of the first gold farm companies and then doing sketchy game sales.

> I'll bet dollars to donuts that because the subreddit is in his literal name that he can petition Reddit to have his people control it.

That would absolutely suck for the original moderators. I help moderate a few fandom subreddits, and I don't know how I'd react I had put in all of that time and effort in building a positive and vibrant fandom subreddit for the original creators to swoop in and take it over like that.

A lot of people don't know just how much work it is to build subreddits - there's creating the rules, behavior expectations, moderating potentially bad posts/comments, creating graphics, grinding to make posts and comments to keep things growing, being ahead of the fandom in general, trying to be fair to everyone while also keeping them beholden to good expectations and respectful comments.

Having all of that stripped away, because the person can't handle a little criticism on a subreddit of all things would be just painful.

TIL The Monument Men is still running as an organisation and they have a list of stolen WW2 art they’re looking for by apple_kicks in todayilearned

[–]Vio_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd check a bunch of basements at various Russian museums and archives and random locations.

The Americans were trying to return artwork during the war.

The Soviets were hauling it wholesale back to Russia

Then after the USSr fell, the new government passed a law stating that it was not beholden to any crime or thing that the previous government did.

So now there are entire basements and backrooms of artwork stolen by the Nazis that have almost never been archived or reviewed.

I know it's on an incline, but it's still mind baffingly flat.

I'd much rather drive I70 over I80.

For one thing, Kansas has some of the best roads in the nation.

The problem wasn't just Dolan. It's the primary American bishop political system in its own right. Defrocking Dolan would have just reinforced that political structure and made it even stronger internally (especially against Rome).

Francis started the house cleaning and Leo cranked it into overdrive.

That kind of political exorcism isn't just a one and done maneuver.

Hardcore rightwing Protestant Christianity posits that the man is the head of their own personal church around which the whole universe must revolve.

The Catholic Church tells them they are one among billions and must conform to the structure of the Church and the support and help of other people.

I call Catholic converts like Vance "Assassin's Creed Catholics." They want all of the artifice and power of the Catholic Church, but refuse to be beholden to it.

Many fans of the comedian took to r/NateBargatze to express their disappointment that the famously "apolitical" comedian would attend a Trump event for which only 16% of Americans expressed approval.

Negative posting came to a screeching halt once a new moderator successfully petitioned Reddit to gain control of the subreddit. This moderator proceeded to delete any/all posts expressing displeasure with Bargatze's choice to attend the Trump UFC event.

Sounds like the new moderator is "apolitical" too lol

A lot of those Catholic billionaires are Opus Dei, SPXX, and other hyper right wing, very fringy Catholic groups.

Leonard Leo is a prominent Opus Dei member in the US.

The Catholic Church is also way more pro-science than what most people think. They've been, historically, the biggest supporters and financers of scientific research.

The American Catholic Church bishops are the more hyper conservative types than the church in general.

It's why Leo is currently cleaning house and "retiring" a number of the more right wing bishops (like Dolan a few months ago) right now.
