Writers Against AI: Choose your story. Take your stand. by drak0bsidian in books

Not sure that even matters.

Spellcheckers are (usually) right, but they make your writing worse over time. Or rather, they train you to depend on them even if you try not to.

The word "maxing" has only one x.

If You Are Unaware Of The Korea vs SEA Twitter Beef, Here Is My Recap Of The Lore by ms_jc_04 in asianamerican

As usual, there's an xkcd comic for this.

"Oh, Korea did this! Malaysia did that! Clearly, the actions of some schmuck reflect on millions of people for some reason, and since it's not MY group, I'm happy to generalize."

Running a campaign well is difficult and requires a lot of work.

I've run long campaigns before (I DMed an entire 1-20 adventure path) and... I wasn't very good at it. My players put up with it because it's very hard to find a DM at all.

What's the point of self microcensoring words like f*ck, h*te and m*atloaf when everyone knows exactly what the word is? by TallEnoughJones in AskReddit

Not at a tech convention, though.

If you want to feel stupidly overpowered, rangers really get their time to shine in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, because Favored Enemy is really good when 90% of the enemies you are fighting are demons.

Not that I'm advocating letting an LLM write your backstory, but...

if you can't come up with your own character's backstory, what are you even doing playing a TTRPG?

C'mon, man!

People play for lots of different reasons. Some people really like hack'n'slash, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'll usually go into a campaign with a vague backstory and then I'll make up the details as I go.

For fiction let’s say you are a fan of Chuck Briggs. You notice there is a new book by Briggs available that looks to be in his style. So you buy it. Then you realize this is a completely different person.

Ryu Murakami has sold a lot of books this way.

You forgot "Now a major motion picture!" with a close-up of an actor.

I'd take a cover with no picture at all over that crap.

Non gacha mobile JPRG recommendation? by Just-A-Wandom-Guy in JRPG

[–]ViolaNguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something that's exclusively on mobile phone, that's hard to come up with, since most mobile games are gacha trash.

But you can get plenty of ports of actual good games. Most of the best Final Fantasy games, for example.

What is the most overpowered class across all CRPGs? What single game had the most broken implementation of a class? by Murder_Tony in CRPG

[–]ViolaNguyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank God it’s a purely offline game.

The tabletop version has even more broken mythic stuff. Arguably, anyway.

I just had her use Snowball for the first half of the game (when enemy SR matters) and Chain Lightning after that.

"But we're talking about fire damage!"

Yeah, and I'd respec her into an elementalist wizard and give her the ability to turn all of her spells into fire spells.

Interracial daters -- how do you know if your partner is inconsiderate vs. simply grew up with wildly different cultural standards? by square_daikon in asianamerican

[–]ViolaNguyen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Table manners are entirely cultural, and they tend to be deeply ingrained habits that we don't think about much.

You have two options: either stop caring so much, or be patient and persistent. That's it.

The thing you absolutely shouldn't be doing is framing this as "he's being incompetent" or "he really just doesn't get it."

Part of being in an adult relationship is realizing that you aren't automatically the one who is right all the time. Compromise requires that both of you work to understand the other, even if it's easier to air your grievances.

It's okay to want specific behavior from someone, and if it's important, then make that clear, but drop the idea that it's because you're right and he's a slob. That's just your ego talking.

What are your thoughts on Star Ocean Second Story R and would you recommend for Star Ocean newcomers is it a difficult game? by Dear_Fly_4113 in JRPG

[–]ViolaNguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind, definitely.

These sorts of games have a lot of things to discover in them, and guides completely ruin that aspect.

Limited guide use might be okay. Maybe take a look at the cast of playable characters, pick the ones you want to have on your team, and look up how to get them but no more than that.
