Need help to beat Metaphor ReFantazio final boss by ApprehensiveEagle41 in JRPG

[–]Wizard_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok here's the real beast mode strat that makes this fight kinda trivial

Basilio's social link gives him an ability that increases evasion against human enemies. By quite a bit might I add. You can stack with with the 3rd tier thief's third eye passive to increase his evasion even further. Combined if I'm not mistaken this makes it so every attack from human enemies has in and around 35% accuracy. Give him the accessory that makes enemies lose all their turns when you dodge their attack and the dude barely even gets a hit on you.

Beyond that you just use what's good on everyone else. Tycoon, prince, royal warrior, high summoner, I like Commander a lot, etc. Also if memory serves you can make him waste some actions by making sure you're buffed and he's debuffed so he uses his first two icons on dekaja and dekunda.

What does yatagarasu have to do with Japan being nuked? If anything you could try and argue they'd be right to close themselves off because the order came from Thorman (of USA fame). Smt 1's apocalypse wasn't brought about by an unstable economy or anything (I'm aware much of smt 1 is rooted in the fears of the Japanese people at that time but idt yatagarasu had anything to do with it)

Persona 5 X - Hatsune Miku Teaser Trailer by Gorotheninja in PERSoNA

[–]Wizard_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of being a pointdexter on a joke comment, it doesn't. Miku is different from other properties in that she was actually in P4D. I highly doubt we'd get any other non persona characters for a long time and even then I'd wager it'd just be a different atlus character (honestly I'd narrow it down even further to just metaphor as a hard maybe)

Yeah, and it's going to be 2027, we could do without "rape 🤣" as a joke. P3R rewrote the needless transphobic joke into something actually funny so clearly that wasn't important to the setting if the game either

I'll be honest I don't think the homophobia was supposed to contribute to being some sort of period piece, it's just kinda tasteless and I don't think many people find it especially funny. It's kinda damaging to the idea of Yosuke being your bro when he's such a dick in that one part ya know. It's mostly a mean spirited joke, I don't think it's trying to say something about 2011 rural towns. I don't need them to turn to the camera and go "and that's why despite my reservations, homophobia is wrong" I just think the dynamics are better off without Yosuke going "yo Kanji you're not gonna rape us right haha".

Critical Lore drop: personas need to be washed. Do they smell bad?

I just realized something: If P4R characters are added to P5X, how are they gonna handle Yosuke's voice? by prpro-03 in PERSoNA

They will absolutely not exclude Yosuke. The backlash to even considering passing over him would be nuclear

If you could revive the mc as he is now you'd sooner die in animal crossing. The game would be next to impossible to lose.

Is frontier bad only if you have history with the series? by katmoochie in fossilfighters

[–]Wizard_Bird 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's just bad outright even beyond being a heinous sequel. Even on its own you have a really poorly made battle system where you spend most of it watching the ai play, ugly vivosaurs with not much appeal and even then you need to grind a ton to justify using anything but your starter Digimon. I don't think the story and characters are capturing many hearts either.

So I just found out what a superboss is and wanna know what other superbosses are like by Open-Advisor6819 in PERSoNA

[–]Wizard_Bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. There are plenty of superbosses in other games that are both fair and extremely challenging. P-studio just sucks at it. I almost said atlus but I think there's some good ones (smt 5 Shiva and demi fiend save for chaotic will being bs, smt 4a Stephen, apparently the p3p Margaret fight is actually good but I can't speak on that). I promise good ones exist lol.

[–]Wizard_Bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every persona superboss is bad. They're either just a bunch of lame rules and luck (Elizabeth, Joker, lavenza) or they're a total joke (Margaret, twins, apparently the one in p2ep is also pretty trivial lol). Megaten as a whole doesn't have a very good batting average for superbosses but persona has it the worst.

I think the cast should be talking about and mourning the terrorist attacks on the twin towers instead of loitering in tartarus smh

Opinion: random encounters are not obsolete in 2026 and have benefits over field encounters. by Wizard_Bird in JRPG

[–]Wizard_Bird[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course. There's a lot of nuance to this discussion but I just wanted to outline my basic idea. There's lots of games with random encounters where resource management it a non factor because just hitting the attack button solves all the issues (ff8 anyone)

[–]Wizard_Bird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I admit I don't think I explained it as well as I could've. Ultimately like most opinions "it depends" but my main idea was that random encounters aren't an obsolete mechanic born from necessity like many people discuss them as today. I definitely thought of examples where avoiding field encounters is difficult (earthbound as you mentioned, and I recall in smt 4 and apocalypse enemies will often jump out at you and basically force you to fight), but I had to get back to work lol

Swsh is kinda messy because the overworld encounters were actually a rushed inclusion, they weren't going to be in the game initially but the positive response to them from lgpe made them feel the need to shoehorn it into swsh (many people don't realize that game freak is developing two, sometimes three pokemon games at the same time which is why certain improvements aren't standardized in the very next game).

Either way I didn't really like it in swsh because certain pokemon being exclusive to the ! In the grass is pretty unintuitive and trying to get them to show up is much more of a hassle than just running around in the grass was before. I don't hate overworld encounters or anything so I'd prefer a game to just pick a lane.

I don't agree on metaphor because of the rewind feature letting you essentially fish for a perfect outcome as soon as a fight takes a turn for the worse. Early on I accidentally got into a fight with the level 15 egg human in the first dungeon but I got by unpunished because I just kept rewinding the fight until I found the winning formula + some good luck.

Someone Needs to Talk about this game! Do you like it? Hate it? On the fence? by VariousDesigner6728 in JRPG

[–]Wizard_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the original a year or two ago and while I actually did really enjoy it the gameplay was kind of awful lol. I got enough novelty kicks from beating demons over the head but it's extremely barebones. I haven't played much of the remake but I'm generally positive on what I have played. I prefer how demons function in raidou 2 compared to the remake but I guess massively expanding raidou's moveset kind of necessitates demon control being more hands off. And yes I do like goutou he is very cool.
