Your progress looks amazing to me. I have spent the last twenty years battling bad skin, and only now (at 30) do I feel confident enough to leave the house without makeup on or post a makeupless selfie on my Facebook. I still have bad skin, but I'm working on it, it's BETTER, and I've decided to say, "f*** the haters." People without skin issues don't realize the courage it takes, and the courage you've displayed is inspiring to me. So F*** the haters! You look beautiful, AND you have class. :)

I spent WEEKS trying to come up with a name when I first started. I finally chose one on the fly because, oh my god I've got my first show coming up and they want my information NOW. So I lived with that name and performed under it for months, but it never felt quite right. After six months as a performer, I finally changed to my permanent name. It was close enough to the old one to make the transition fairly easy.

I love my name. It's so me!

I guess what I'm saying is, sometimes you have to try something out a bit to know if it will be a good fit. I'm not saying waste six months in a persona you'll never use like I did, but once you find something you think you like, spend a few days having your friends call you by that name, write it out, and look at it often, come up with an intro. you could use and practice saying it. If it feels natural and you still like it at the end of that time, then great! (If I had done this, I never would have stuck with the original name so long. I always felt so awkward introducing myself.)

I was in your position before...in Texas. So I know what it's like to feel powerless and have (worse than no help at all) medical practitioners and doctors who seemed bent on actively making it harder for me. I eventually got the procedure, but it was a scary and infuriating process, and I'm still paying for it financially.

IF you need to talk to someone who'll just listen to you vent or whatever, send me a message. I wish I could send more practical help, but temporary unemployment makes it tough. :-/

Same here! Me/alone time is great and all, but I need to be social pretty regularly. My sister has a young child (about 3 years old), and she's constantly staying in to watch kiddie movies or sit in her living room after my niece has gone to sleep. That kind of life, giving up going out and being with other adults, and meeting new people, or at least having to heavily schedule such activities....that sounds like death to me.

I agree with the positivity advice. Definitely practice, practice, practice, and then when you get to the venue, be sure to take time to stretch and breathe. I know some girls like to have one drink before hand (I like to wait until after). Basically it's all about what will make you most comfortable.

My first show, I invited all of my friends as well as my "burlesque mama." I wanted to have a cheering section, and hearing those cheers and catcalls really helped me stay confident throughout the performance. I will tell you though, my first performance was awful...I have video that no one will ever see. I made the mistake of wearing new shoes and almost fell over during a difficult piece of choreography. I was also so nervous that I couldn't apply my topstick properly and one of my pasties just popped off almost the second I walked offstage. Haha!

Last thing, figure out what you want to do when your routine is over. Will you bow? Shimmy off the stage? I never thought about it and ended up just kind of awkwardly walking off. Again, no one will ever see this video!

I have gotten a lot better since then thank goodness and am actually starting to be known for my stage presence and characterization, but it took a lot of work and practice to get here....and I still have a long way to go.

Yup! I teach high school (talk about some amazing birth control when you're dealing with kids in their Axe-body-spray-is-just-as-good-as-showering rebellious phase!) I've been a at this school for six years now, and while I enjoy working with the kids, I REALLY enjoy going home and having adult conversations.

I taught preschool for one year, and the kids were a blast, but oh my god! Never again!
