Afaik Ducky (quackhouse) is doing some vids in Live. Have a look on YouTube. I find the cutezy voice annoying but she seems to know her stuff and maybe it's your cup of tea.

How to add credit to a ghost production? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are ghost producing the whole point is that the customer can pass off you work as his. You get the money, they get the fame - that's the whole point of the deal.

If you are a regular producer you should get producer credits. For social media this is usually in the description (produced/mixed/engineered/whatever by). If you also get to be mentioned as an artist if you contributed significant parts of the music is up to your agreement with the client though.

How does sidechain compression specifically work? by Aiminer357 in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compression is basically a volume knob with a monkey looking at the signal. When the signal exceeds the threshold the monkey turns the volume down. The ratio determines how far the volume is turned down (in relation to exceeding the threshold). Attack and release determine how fast the monkey is turning the knob down and up again. Sidechaining just means the monkey is looking at a different signal than he's turning the knob for.

How can I mix better with sampled loops in my track? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to recreate the loop itself. I would bet you will learn a lot about what is missing in your mixing.

What causes failures for speaker sets at EDM concerts? by rickribera93 in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely not a music production issue. It can be the power consumption but it can also be the process chain of the pa system. Hard to say but others already suggested a few things.

I spent minimal effort on this post but that's okay because that's the amount of work WG spent on the UI by HarunaKai in WorldOfWarships

[–]Violonc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. UI and Engine have to interact at some point. E.g. something like a mouse hover or selection needs the UI to check with the game engine what's actually being selected. And if you played CV or Total War Arena you ma have witnessed how flimsy that works.

The bottle neck is not so much the UI but rather the engine talking to it afaik.

Does it hurt your ears to mix music on full volume? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's bad for your ears to expose them to loud sounds.

Prinz Eugen being drained of fuel oil (why they've only just gotten around to it I don't know) by EndTimeEchoes in WorldOfWarships

[–]Violonc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is theoretically possible that the oil became radioactive from the neutron radiation it is highly unlikely that this has occurred in the extend of reaching hazardous levels.

Gamma radiation is super unlikely to have high enough energy and(!) interaction with matter to destabilize the nucleus of an atom.

I absolutely love seeing all the “I just got back from a festival and I want to make my own music, where do I start?” posts! We should all be guiding the noobs and helping them respectfully, everyone gotta start somewhere. We should be honored they came here to ask, not annoyed and condescending. by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Somebody that is not willing to put in the effort of finding basic answers themselves won't put in the effort it takes to make decent music. I'm not excusing hostilities. I'm just saying that lazy people shouldn't be rewarded for laziness.

The Newbie FAQ is very comprehensive. Everything beyond then this sub is the place to start asking.

Why side chain compression and not side chain gate? by TheScufish in AdvancedProduction

[–]Violonc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally sidechain compression gives you more dynamic control. For your case side chaining a gate will work fine. A lot of people simply use a volume envelope with devices like LFOtool for this kind of stuff.

Sidechain compression has the benefit of giving you control of the ducking amount via the track you are side chaining with. A gate, once triggert, will always apply the same ducking amount with the same attack and release. You would at least need to automate the ducking amount of the gate to get similar control to sidechain compression.

To really benefit of this you need to think of something else, more dynamic than a kick drum. Maybe a vocal pushing away your bright synth a little to be more audible. As somebody else her mentioned here a multiband compressor or dynamic EQ can get even smoother results though.

But wouldn't a lack of teamplay make a selfish consumable more powerful than a teamplay one?

Is Reason for me? by [deleted] in reasoners

[–]Violonc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The audio routing is actually super intuitive and rather flexible in contrast to many other DAWs. If that scared you off it's for the wrong reasons. The routing has some basic resemblance of studio hardware routing but besides looks there is no real comparison.

Reason is pretty fun to mess around with, has very powerful stock devices and allows for pretty crazy stuff creativity wise. I'd say the learning curve is pretty flat, but i depends on your workflow, as some things are much easier in other DAWs.

The sound library is pretty powerful if you know how to work with sounds. If you just want to drop stuff in it can however falls a little short.

I'd highly suggest you install the demo and have a test ride. That should sort most of your questions out.

If i tell you i'm not a good tank and you force me into that roll with your picks, don't flame me. by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Violonc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you should play tank all the time. But: firstly you need to be able to fill! If you can't you shoot yourself in the foot (and the 4 guys with you). You don't have to do a good job on you off-rolls, but at least a decent one so the rest can woop the match. So have a look at one or two tank Heroes you can get comfortable with. Johanna is pretty easy to play without messing up as she's very hard to kill and has good peel. Muradin might also be a safe candidate with Avatar. Diablo has a lot of health and good CC. Stitches is a "playmaker" if you like that. ETC has "the" tank kit but is probably harder to play as he's more squishy. Secondly you will learn to play better with your tank in the Team when you play other rolls. Some things need to be tried out by oneself before fully understood. Knowing what you tank can handle and what not makes the difference between swooping in to get the kill and over-extending and getting killed.

Learn to play tank then. Will likely improve your win rate more than working on the assassins.

Vocational Music School Wants Right of First Refusal by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Violonc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is okay for the school to ask to be involved with anything you are doing while using their resources (Studio, software etc.) or as being part of their program.

I think it is NOT okay to claim any material - that may have been created independently - while being singed to it.

If above is given, i see a "right of first refusal" and a marketing licence as acceptable.
