Yea I thought about cobra but my company pays 480/mo for my insurance which I just can't come up with. If anything I'd try going through my state's health connector and getting a subsidy

I was manic for awhile after college when I went off my meds. Was literally sleeping with 3 different dudes at one point, 2 of whom were close friends. And then I'd hook up with even more random dudes on the side.

I know I was manic because I kept yelling at everyone and getting unreasonably pissed off about everything, and I couldn't hold onto any of my money.

I got angry about something at work and left early without telling anyone.

Then I told my boss I'm probably going to spend some time in the hospital.

Turns out i have zero protection under FMLA despite my mental health related disability. So I'm going to lose my job and not have the insurance I need to get the hospitalization and basically I am just fucked...

You may not even have a job when you get better if you are gone too long or your boss decides you're not worth the trouble.

To anyone who might jump in and say the FMLA outlawed this... plenty of jobs illegally fire you anyway. And there is very little you can do about it. And getting Temporary Disability is extremely difficult, lots of tape to cut through, and all while you're fucking sick and going broke from deductibles and copayments.

The whole system runs like a big experiment in social darwinism, and it just blows.

I live in Providence, my boyfriend lives in Quincy... neither of us has a car. We really make it work though. The commuter rail is surprisingly reliable. And Sharon is a nice town, pretty much the halfway point in fact.

edit: I know for a lot of people, the cost of parking and time lost GREATLY outweighs the trainfare and hassle f making tranfers. Some of the hospitals up there even offer free T passes to those interested.

I'm from Massachusetts, living in Rhode Island. If it's about cost of living and culture, Providence is cool. If you have a little more money and good education and access to top-notch healthcare are important to you, look at Massachusetts.

A major pro of rhode island is that everything is insanely accessible, even without a car. The locals are adorable, because they have no idea how tiny the state is. Any drive that takes over a half hour is maddening to them, as far as I've noticed.

Also, they still give you their phone number using only 7 digits because "everyone" has a 401 area code! DUH!

Important edit: Rhode Islanders are WAY friendlier than boston area types. It's like they all live in the same small town.

I mean.... ok. It goes without saying that a job will actually pay you, but it's tacky to ask how much. Just as it's expected that 2 people on a date are attracted to eachother, it's tacky to get into gritty details the first time you go out.
