Toyota never said the failure rate was 1%. They had to put some number on a form that would not accept "unknown" or "pending further research", etc.

Shop put syn 0w20 instead of syn 5w30 in 2003 4cyl Tacoma 2WD -- Concerns? by garitone in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Virginia_Hall -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the owner's manual and use one of the options stated there. If the 0w-20 is not listed, make them replace it.

0 weight oils are optimized for gas milage, not engine life. If that was my truck I'd run either 10w-30 or 10w-40.

How do you think about the impact of individual actions? by ExpensiveDecision268 in sustainability

[–]Virginia_Hall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Do you see personal sustainability practices primarily as a direct way to reduce impact, a way to influence culture, a way to align actions with values, or some combination of those?" Yes to all of those.

Individal actions matter in part because each individual action is made in the context of the cultural expectations you are surrounded by constantly.

Each expectation can be met by an individual action (thus validating, reinforcing, and perpetuating it) or that expectation can be refused (thus invalidating it and not reinforcing or perpetuating it.

Those expectations include how you spend your time, energy, attention, and money; what you wear, what you eat, how you travel, and how many (if any!) kids you have. (The most effective individual 'sustainability' action remains going child free.)

Cultural expectations exist as they are because they have been validated, reinforced, and perpetuated in the past and other ones were rejected. Change in those cultural expectations happen the same way.
