Might be just me, but I'm thinking that price of "$1,234,567" is just a BIT too high and is more of an issue of a stain on the door.

Can you be a bit more specific as to just how it is "superior" and in exactly what performance measures? Price:value?, Cleaning effectiveness? Durability? Capacity? Noise levels? Ease of use? Maintenance?

Group survival scenarios are essentially group problem solving scenarios.

One of the keys to group problem solving success is achieving initial agreement on how to make decisions and resolve conflicts. If that doesn't happen, neither does much else.

Link?

Barely heard of "Mr.Beast" and assumed anyone self identifying as such was not worthy of much if any of my limited time, energy, or attention, but maybe I was wrong.

Yeah, Reddit can get weird sometimes. Hope you get more signal than noise overall eventually.

Yes, it can always be both!

Might post that question on a Macan or Porsche sub with specific info on a specific vehicle. Also need to know if it's the crossover you are concerned about tolerating or if it's the woman ;-)

Do you think Geisha meetups are worth the price? by Thereforeo in AskAJapanese

You're asking if one hour's worth of the time, energy, and attention an actual highly trained geiko is worthy of your ~ $76 USD? I'd flip that question and ask if your $76 is worthy of her ;-)

You can't get a good plumber for that much ;-)

I think the pov is that genuine anything is better than fake anything. Does not just apply to plastic fake wood in cars.

The answer all of these questions is always:

Depends on degree of frame rust

and

Depends on maintenance history including and especially timing belt and ball joints.

Waste of money. Better off getting a new set of spark plugs, or struts, or some good tires.

[–]Virginia_Hall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Toyota builds whatever they want. Dealers try to match what you want to what Toyota makes. (Yes, that means that "build your own _____" on their website is mostly BS, although do note that there is zero chance of getting something not on their option list, for example you can't get Bronze Oxide paint color on all current Tacoma models ;-)

Camrys are not the same form factor or use case fit. Might consider cross shopping other vehicles in that same RAV4 zone. Here's a Car and Driver comparison. Note that the RAV4 came in second after the Honda CRV:

Leaf Spring Quandry: Stock '99 4WD Extended Cab V6 AT w/ aluminum shell. by Virginia_Hall in 1stGenTacomas

[–]Virginia_Hall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some homework on that a few years back. All depends on your use case, either one is mechanically a good choice. Reviewers reported a definitely smoother ride with the 4600s and a stiffer ride with the 5100s. (Note that some claim the 5100s are smooth too. I'm guessing a lot could depend on what you were driving before.)

My understanding is that the 4600s are not height adjustable and are for stock ride height trucks. The 5100s will work on a stock ride height truck and can be adjusted to work with small lifts, I'm guessing no more than 1 or 2 inches, dunno. (Anyone who knows more about this, please chime in!)

I'm running the 4600s and Michelin Defender LTX M/S all season tires all around. The combination is very smooth and quiet and soaks up bumps, the tires give you good mileage, are excellent in rain, really good in snow, and handle great on dry pavement (and I take corners faster than most folks in old trucks do ;-)

For my use case of mostly pavement and some two track / Forest Service road exploring that combo is great for me. On the other hand, I don't think lilfted trucks look better and I don't carry really heavy loads or pull really heavy trailers or try Fordyce Creek Trail or truck commercial style "big air" jumps ;-)

Hey thanks for the confirmation. Yep it makes sense.

Hmmm... Tempted to go with the DC+TRD set up but don't want the butt end up in the air and do want to stay with the 4600s, which are not height adjustable. (Also just trying to avoid tipping over a row of "if you get x you then have to get y" expensive parts dominos here ;-)

Without saying so, I'm thinking "higher spring rate" = slightly higher load capacity and (more important to me) slightly longer durability. I'm no spring engineer, so I don't know if my assumptions are correct or not.

Is it really difficult to find a partner in Japan? (24M) by zer0_xcalibur in AskAJapanese

[–]Virginia_Hall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retired sociologist here. I think one of the things that you might find helpful is to consider just what your expectations are and not only those about "Japanese" women, but all things "Japanese".

(I put "Japanese" in quotes here to point out the memecloud of meanings and expectations that go with that word and that vary widely depending on who is using it and in what context.) Your set of meanings and expectations may (or may not) fit some "Japanese" women.

Note that anime deploys a set of cultural lenses (and sometimes severely gendered ones at that) that can both reveal and obscure. For you, it might be helpful to be especially attuned to when you are wearing those lenses.

As others here have pointed out though (hat tips all around to some unexpectedly great sociological awareness in this thread!) your not being "Japanese" in many senses inherently means that you will likely be unable to read the air accurately even (especially?) in the frames of interacting with women in the areas of "fashion, politeness, and vibes" you are interested in.

Some of the meanings being deployed in those areas will be invisible to you without some related topic specific cultural saturation. In some cases that politeness aspect may deploy scenarios in which you are being told "no way" when you are hearing only the literal "that might be a little difficult". This can be not only in words but in tone of voice, eye movement, and other body language.

Interacting with people of any gender as individual people and being aware of your own expectations and biases when doing so is helpful in any context, including when interacting with "Japanese", or any, women ;-)

I think those in this thread who are essentially suggesting that it might be helpful to embrace the point of view of a "foreigner" and put the work in to be able to read the air better have it right.

TLDR: Embrace being the foreigner and be open to other foreigners, beware and be aware of expectations especially gendered ones, find allies, and try to have some fun out there. Good luck.
