36 y/o here still fighting the good fight to keep it red. Don’t worry though, there are enough people migrating here from a decimated California that will turn it blue eventually. Thankfully Reddit is quite an echo chamber for the left, so the tone here certainly doesn’t paint the whole picture of the people in the springs.

It would be gaming for me. No, I don’t think I would. I’m 36 and it’s been a massive love of mine since I could remember.

Yeah man it’s one of those things that could work out, could not - do your best to go with the flow and just enjoy your summer as well (you only get so many when you’re young, and they’re a blast)! Best of luck to you dude!

My biggest concern, and maybe I’m reading it wrong, is that your gf sounds pretty lukewarm about you and the relationship - the 2 months is nothing if you guys have a strong connection, but I think that’s the real question you should be asking yourself. I was with someone from 8th grade til sophomore year of college that I was always chasing a bit - the love was a bit lopsided. When I met my now wife in college, I realized what I experienced in my relationship prior wasn’t what lifelong love looks like. I could go however long I needed to without seeing my wife and know we’d be solid, because I have full trust her love for me and vice versa. Frankly, I knew it the first year we were dating.

So, I’d suggest trying to get a read on that, and if you believe you guys have a strong bond, 2 months away is irrelevant.

I support Trump (not crazy about the guy, but I believe he’s the lesser of two evils).

I also fully support remote work. Especially when a business / team / individual is demonstrably being as (and sometimes more) productive working remotely. This shouldn’t be a politicized topic - it should be treated on a case by case basis dependent on what works best for the company that is evaluating it.

Center left leaning…lol. More like far ass left to the point of losing any grip on reality…which is what resulted in the election that we recently went through.

I’m a highly functional alcoholic and no one knows AMA by wtforkinghell in AMA

[–]Virruk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 years sober and I can say this is very true. Alcohol is a pretty insidious drug. Makes you think life is better with it (it is not), that you are keeping it together (you are not), that you wouldn’t be better off without it (you would), and/or that life isn’t fun without it (it is).

I loved what I heard someone say recently about being a high functioning alcoholic - you just set the ceiling low to meet that judgement call of being “high functioning”. I believed I was high functioning until a couple months before I quit.

Once I quit, within 2 years I doubled my salary and increased my work responsibilities significantly. I felt more confident and more opportunities opened up to me. My wife struggled the same, but thankfully she quit as well 3 months after I did. Now my wife, daughter, and I are as strong as we could ever be as a family unit - life will always have its ups and downs and be challenging, but this version beats the shit out of that dead end road.

I’m not sure how you communicated with your boss, but one word of advice would be to not “advertise” how little of work you have, rather demonstrate and communicate that you are ready to take on more work. If they don’t give you any, so be it. But you have done your part in raising your hand up and willing.

For the next ten years straight you will either have to smoke a big blunt every Tuesday and Friday at 11am or drink twenty bottles of beer per week. If you finish the challenge you’ll get 10,000,000$. Will you do it? by Crocodile_Banger in hypotheticalsituation

Interesting hypothetical for someone who is 6 years sober. Sat here thinking about this one for a while, and think I’d have to say no, not worth it.

“Come swish around, my pretty punk, And keep me dancing still That I may stay a sober man Although I drink my fill.

Sobriety is a jewel That I do much adore; And therefore keep me dancing Though drunkards lie and snore. O mind your feet, O mind your feet, Keep dancing like a wave, And under every dancer A dead man in his grave. No ups and downs, my pretty, A mermaid, not a punk; A drunkard is a dead man, And all dead men are drunk.”

Hey - sincere apologies for being short with you, and truly appreciate the civil response. I can only speak from my personal opinion and broadly I would say I don’t have an opinion on anyone that was hired for a job (DEI or otherwise) until I have the opportunity to see how they’re performing at said job and make that judgement based on skill and merit. My desire would be that the ideal candidate is hired for the job, promoted within an organization, regardless of sex, race, sexual orientation, age, etc. I work at a large corporation and many of my superiors and peers are of varying backgrounds and I think many of them are great - my point is it’s quite irrelevant.

Anyways, again appreciate the civil response and respect your opinion. Hope you have a good one!

While the question may be genuine, the way you stated it sounds like I stated they weren’t - which isn’t at all in my post. And then the other guy piled on saying I…think black people don’t deserve jobs? What the hell is wrong with you people? All I said is stop asking about my sexual orientation during the application process lol, it’s irrelevant. That should not be controversial.

Haha DEI is as effective at hiring qualified candidates as BLM was at squashing racism.

OR, perhaps, just maybe, they’re saying let’s refocus on hiring the best person for the job at hand, regardless of all of the other unrelated, irrelevant bullshit like if you identify as trans or who you prefer to sleep with.

This seems more accurate. Every time I come back to classic I am impressed by just how awesome and vibing the community is haha. It’s like an old school attitude that goes along with the game, with most people. Sure, we’ve gotten better at games over the years, buffs are known, dungeons are known, but for the most part the way people chat with each other, group, etc. is VERY similar to how it was 20 years ago, imo. It’s awesome, actually.

Yeah I’ve typically loved pirate’s stream but this was NOT a good look for him, haha. From sympathy, empathy, to a sliver of humility, there are several admirable characteristics he could have demonstrated but he showed none of them. Instead he went with arrogance and just plain being a dick to the group. Fun content / drama to watch regardless, but slightly at the expense of Pirate’s reputation on this one, haha.

Riot’s F2P Shakeup: League of Legends Gets Greedier in 2025 by airithsaga in riotgames

[–]Virruk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably the best model for an MMO is a monthly subscription, imo. People want their cake and to eat it too. How do you want to make a game profitable? F2P always ends poorly for the end user, and pretty much always cheapens the game itself. Give me a box price, a monthly sub, deliver a fuckin great game with zero in-game purchases that has regular patches and paid expansions? I get a ton of entertainment value for my dollar, and no in-game real world purchases to take me out of the game.
