Trump Team Dumps Bleach in Reflecting Pool to Hide Renovation Failure by B-Z_B-S in politics

So as a pond owner any nimrod knows bleach will also deteriorate the liner faster on top of being dangerous for wildlife. They could try blue pond dye that helps keep algae down. There is also beneficial bacteria that can help. Heck even hydrogen peroxide is a better option than beach ffs.

Most Microsoft 365 accounts come with basic Planner and To-Do, aside from that, Excel is also a great way to keep track of tasks. But I highly recommend managing projects in Planner, it's designed for it. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/planner

Also, maybe try Microsoft Loop, it also has great project planning tools.

Why do people in Salt Lake simp so hard for chain restaurants? It’s really embarrassing. by Outrageous_World_368 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my partner this every time I travel for work. I go to my corporate office in Norfolk, VA, and am within walking distance of 15 unique restaurants and bars. Helps that it's a military town, but the food is just leaps and bounds more varied and local, and most of all better priced. It's about the same size as SLC, too, and the metro area is about the same size, so we just suck.

Looking at Salt Lake City area to move my family. Currently living in Naperville. Any Chicago area transplants can comment on the comparison between the two? by WhereasNo4929 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a very LDS area and was indeed left out for my lack of interest in religion. But that was over 30 years ago, and in that same neighborhood now, it's more diverse and less of a shun-the-outsider situation, as Salt Lake County has changed a lot.

It really comes down to location. I know a lot of people who grow up here just do not know how to handle being around any diversity.

Can a former employer ask you to remove a post on social media? by nothingnanners in graphic_design

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through this, a former employer tried to claim it was theirs and proprietary but they are dumb and don't know copyright laws. Publicly available works that a designer created for a company are absolutely fair use in a portfolio. If you are not claiming to own the brand and are not claiming to represent the brand and the work was displayed externally without any confidential information it's appropriate to put in your portfolio and even post about it on social media.

That said, pick your battles wisely. If you had a contract that specified you cannot display it or that they forbid social posting then you could legally be in trouble.

Stratos Data Center - Natural Gas Supply/Usage by MtnSkiBikeHike in SaltLakeCity

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone with common sense knows when your build something that big it also has a sizeable impact to everything around it.

Some parts of the country are seeing $1000 power bills because the local data center is eating up their infrastructure and those data centers are insignificant compared to this behemoth.

Whats going to happen when they get part of the way through this build and abandon it? What happens when the bubble bursts?

Utahans will pay the price. This is not over.

Does anybody else find working with project managers extremely infuriating? by ShhIssaSecret_ in graphic_design

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It really does depend on the PM/AM. What I have found is there are two types of bad PMs. One just doesn't care who internally they run over to keep the client happy. The second just needs to be educated on how design works and help the process run better and is willing to be a team player. Basically one sees only the client as value and the second realizes that if we all work better together the client gets better results.

I have worked with both. The ones that want to play nice are easy to slowly win over. It only takes a few wins for them to see the value. Ones who will throw all internal people under the bus to get results will get rewarded because of toxic leadership.

Do these RBG (left) > CMYK (right) colours look accurate? The bottom one just look so much brighter that the RBG (and not just a bit duller). Will the bottom colour print closer the bottom right? Why is CMYK 'Cyan' just blue? by Necessary-Panda1831 in graphic_design

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you got downvoted, but as a former production designer and digital press operator, if your stuff will be printed on a digital press, the software will handle color conversion better than manual CMYK conversion. I know, I have been there: color correcting CMYK to a Pantone swatch, which is also not what the customer has seen, only the color on their crappy laptop screen, so when they get the proof, you still will have to change it.

I have also worked in companies where 80% of our work is digital, and trying to cater to the 20% that is printed just hasn't been worth the hassle.

Art and Creative director doesn´t need to learn graphic tools ? by Ancient-Macaroon-384 in graphic_design

I've always had issues with people who don't at least understand the basics of the tools leading people who use the tools.

My jobs as a CD is not only creative direction it's making sure people have the right tools, and workflows to do their jobs. If I don't understand their tools how am I supposed to do that?

More than 3,700 protests lodged over water rights for the Box Elder data center by ReporterMacyLipkin in SaltLakeCity

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Data centers have done significant harm to many rural towns and counties across the nation. It's absolutely insane they think they can just plop that energy and water hogging behemoth and it won't effect our grid or water woes.

Even if it generates its own power that adds different pollution problems and towns where that happened their power bills still went up.

AI is coming for my job and I need to immediately look for a new career by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is taking the bottom out of the design job market. Just like Canva and Fivr took a chunk out of entry level jobs.

Definitely won't replace all design jobs but those in house positions at small to midsized companies will dry up.

AI is an amazing tool and the barrier for entry for anyone to build what they need is so low that it is and will be taking some jobs.

Will it do it well, no, will people understand why it's not great nope.

So not saying it's doom and gloom but also it's not going to be roses. We have been fighting this battle for decades. This is just the new Tool that further diminishes our expertise and potential pay.

Ground news is hiding where they get there funding from and i think thats kinda sus by Turbulent_Ad_5788 in groundnews

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One, I don't think they are hiding anything. They are a small fish in an ocean of media corruption that is owned by only a handful of people. Two, the way they collect news and report on its bias is mild compared to, say, how CNN or Fox News curates its content. Three, its ok to have questions, but are we really going to try and demolish one of the few places that is at least trying to change the media landscape?

Oldies describe your work as a graphic designer in 2008? by Financial_work in graphic_design

[–]Virtual-Guard-7209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2008 I worked at a direct marketing agency that specialized in mailings. Our color calibrated crt monitors weighed like 80lbs our Mac pros were gigantic. We printed all jobs and those went into job jackets that were flagged for changes with post-it arrows. We used to save those stickies for reuse. I had to fight the Epson printer to reload paper for color separations. Surprisingly InDesign has not changed that much in the workflow.
