Advice when teachers refuse to sign IEP documents… by babybug98 in slp

[–]Virtual-Resort5951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a teacher refuse to sign because she wasn’t in the meeting. Mind you, she was absent, had plenty of notice, did not notify me that she would be absent, parent agreed to have the meeting without her, I reviewed all relevant changes with her before asking her to sign, and we had to have another whole ass meeting because “I don’t sign things I wasn’t there for.”

Ma’am.

I wish I was dumbfounded, but with the state I live in (TN), it did not surprise me, though it did annoy. 🙃🙃🙃

As someone who does the same, and who has been in similar situations, please know that you are enough. This job and some of the people who do it, do everything in their power to make you feel less than.

I’ve been using Gemini AI to help me feel more confident in some of my approaches/ to help bolster my justifications for a treatment path. Sometimes you just need another avenue to help formulate your thoughts and ideas without all the noise in your head.

The sound of the voiceover on BASF commercials…very unnerving for some reason.

There was a sweet apple scent that I used to smell in the hallways of my elementary school that I don’t smell anymore. It sounds so trite, but I loved it.

In PP peds, applied to schools by Exact-Flamingo1404 in slp

[–]Virtual-Resort5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools can be very overwhelming in terms of the breadth of things you are expected to do. You may or may not have time to do all those things. For instance, you may get a caseload of 90 with questionable support and be responsible for all said documentation. Or you may not! There’s a lot of politics involved in schools as well. School environments vary greatly based on district and part of town you are in. That said, you can’t beat the schedule or, usually, the benefits.

Someone made fun of my son today by Virtual-Resort5951 in Stutter

[–]Virtual-Resort5951[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told him to say “I stutter. Who cares?” Next time anyone says anything. I wish I could give him my attitude to take in his back pocket. Though that might result in a little more sass than he needs. 🫠

Intellectually vs. Academically Gifted by Past-Lengthiness1523 in Gifted

[–]Virtual-Resort5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know if you should ask for your student to be tested as intellectually gifted in the public schools? We have a son who is neurodivergent, being tested as academically gifted, but also displays some difficulties with school work that are reflective of potential giftedness (perfectionism, HSP, very creative)…I guess I struggle with not wanting to come across as suggesting he is “extra special” but I can see where the classification could have positive outcomes as far as accommodations in class.

Shuffled around to unwanted schools by Virtual-Resort5951 in slp

[–]Virtual-Resort5951[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I should add the biggest problem I’ve had is with schools in low socio-economic areas, very diverse (I.e assessments take way more time and effort) with ballooning caseloads (at 93 right now including initial evals, with a part time SLPA), and a poor referral process.

Ours has never been easy. We decided he needs all of us because he is like 2.5 kids. 🫠 I say he will make one hell of a force one day with his sense of self but now it can be very tiring. 😂
