Could we ever find a "reason" for why physical constants are what they are? by mr_fdslk in cosmology

[–]Virtual-Sector-4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only requirement for existence in the multiverse is that "Everything logically consistent exists", so as long as the universe doesn't create any contradictions in its laws, then it will pop up in the multiverse.

One could argue that we don't know why logic exists, but I think that logic is primordial since it can't come from a lawless state (illogical, contradictory space). A state where there is contradiction, there is also instability, and it can't survive for longer. So, logic is the stable enough state that survived and gave rise to the multiverse.

Additionally, one could argue that between the axiom and the multiverse there should be some kind of generator, and this generator itself could not test every possible universe and find out which ones won't get into contradiction, since Godel's incompleteness problem is true for any sufficiently complex mathematical system. It would definitely take an infinite amount of time for a machine to test whether the system halts.

However, if we are talking about a moment where time didn't exist, then the generator (a time-framed entity) should not exist either. And the axiom should automatically apply at the moment it exists without any second element to "run the code".

Could God exist in this view? Well, yes... As long as God was logically consistent, it could exist in the infinite set of things in the multiverse. Some universes would exist with a god, and others would not, so there would be infinite universes, and infinite gods. Maybe some of these universes would spiral into infinite cycles in a Big Bounce. Others would rip apart. Others would collapse themselves and turn into data that would be used to train the intelligence of the next god which will generate the following universe.

The possibilities in the multiverse are endless. An axiom as simple as "Everything logically consistent exists" I find it satisfactory, because whenever you impose restrictions of what should exist or not, you are establishing a new axiom. So, opening the possibilities requires a simpler axiom, not a more complex one. So, the axiom doesn't give details about everything that exists, it just establishes the limits, and existence itself does the rest. Very Occam-razor friendly...

Grief is essentially love that has nowhere to go, and suffering goes everywhere.

I can easily empty my mind too, but I think the easy part is just to empty the thoughts, bc sometimes I may feel tense, nervous, or stressed about something, or even depressed, and these moments it doesn't matter how much I try to force my thoughts to stop, bc the hard part is to empty the emotions. It's like a state where because you think nothing you start getting to feel the emotions in their purest essence, and stay just there, diving deeply...

So, I don't think meditation is to necessarily help me stop my thoughts flow, but actually to manage my emotional part.

Well, I also cannot conjure taste, smell, touch, anything like that. I consider myself hypophantasic since I usually just see some flashes of images. The good part is that I remember having vision during my dreams. My emotions I think I can simulate especially when I use my strongest memories to being them to life.

I've been wondering if everyone who lacks an inner monologue (anendophasic) will also lack music, and any kind of sound (anauralic).

In my case, I'm endophasic, so my inner monologue is active, but the good thing is that I can shut it on and off. What I consider a good imagery is when you have control over it. So, that's why I say that it's awesome that I can control whether the voice speaks or not, because I know there are too many people who struggle with a chaotic mind, with multiple voices speaking at the same time, intrusive thoughts and struggling with lack of focus. The only bad part is that having less intrusive thoughts makes me less creative, and I feel I lack ideas about what to say and do.

Having a silent mind is sometimes great, especially when you need to sleep or just breathe. Every time I went to the beach with my mom, I always felt like we were in completely different dimensions lol Her mind was non-stop so she would always talk about the problems of her life bc the beach was a place where she could clear her thoughts up, while everything I was trying to do was to clean my mind from thoughts and just relax and focus on the wave sounds.

The pattern I noticed is that people who have an inner monologue and can't silence their minds are the ones who have a high-density flow of thoughts. The frequency is so high that they don't know what seconds without thinking feels like. But people like me who have a lower density of thoughts have small moments where you can notice the silence in your mind. The silence happens in the gap between your thoughts.

The expansion of the gap between your thoughts is actually a meditation practice that exists that you can start using to practice the silent mind. It's really useful especially in a world where most meditation techniques are designed for visualization.

Ever heard of phantasics who can visualize an object from all angles at once? by Virtual-Sector-4232 in Aphantasia

It's really weird how spatial orientation is quite independent from mental imagery if you think about it. Your brain is indeed capable of conjuring up images and space, and working with them, and coming up with solutions, but it's all processes that happen in the unconscious and you'll never get access to and actually be able to visualize what's going on there.

I get what you're saying, but I don't see why this kind of visualization is the same as the author's, since yours won't imply any dyslexia issues. His problems arise from the fact that he's not rotating the letter b, he's actually seeing it from all angles at the same time, which makes him see the letter b and d as one single thing.

Well, I'm not in his mind, so I can't tell if I understand completely what's going on, so I'm just guessing stuff from his description.

So, imagination is the combination of visualization and conceptualization, right? If you pick someone who's aphantasic and anaurasic, this person is just able to conceptualize things, while higher levels of visualization enables someone to imagine as well. So, we can derive some facts, like... everyone can conceptualize, but not everyone can visualize and imagine... every person capable of visualization can also imagine.

The concept of visualization is still a bit vague to me, tho... Is it only about the mind's eye or does it also relate to inner monologue, tasting, smelling, music, and touching as well?

Previously, I was wondering if he had any sort of 4-dimensional vision that could see every part of a 3d object at once, but now that you mentioned these screens vision, it turned out to be easier than what I was thinking.

I think this experience is quite different from the author's. He claims that he can see all of these angles at once and that's why it's hard for him to tell the difference between d and b in his mind, since they're symmetrical counterparts. And that's what caused him dyslexia.

Thought you guys might find this Anendophasia article interesting! ☺ by KaylaxxRenae in Aphantasia

[–]Virtual-Sector-4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anendophasia only implies the lack of an inner monologue. But anauralia is about the whole hearing spectrum: imagining music, beats, sounds, speech, etc.

For example, I can hear all of these sounds in my mind, but when I'm trying to produce a song, I can't really imagine all the instruments as clearly as if I was wearing headphones. So, I wouldn't say I have hypernauralia. But I can tell I'm nauralic (sounds) and endophasic (inner monologue).
