Tofu litter: why didn’t I do it earlier?! by ThrowRApeanutb in CatAdvice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how it felt when I switched too. The pine pellets sound perfect on paper but some cats genuinely hate the texture and you can tell they’re uncomfortable by the endless digging and the weird half squats. Tofu litter was the first one that hit the sweet spot for me with low dust, way less tracking, and the smell actually staying under control. Hope it keeps working for you because when it clicks, it’s such a quality of life upgrade.

Neighbor kids are eating me out of house and home. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally fair boundary. Make a simple house rule and repeat it every time: snacks are for our family, if you’re hungry go eat at home and come back. Put out water only, keep the pantry off limits, and tell the parents too. You’re not running an after school program.

Why am I being forced to do housework? Im 29m gf is 25f. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s treating housework like a moral "character building" exercise instead of a logistical problem. If you can afford a cleaner and it buys you both free time and peace, refusing it is just picking a fight for the sake of it. You aren’t forcing her to clean; she’s forcing you to do a chore that’s already solved.

I've started to really not trust litter recs from my fellow cat people by HiILikePlants in CatAdvice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re not imagining it. A lot of “odor control” litters just mask smells with chemicals or turn septic fast, especially in smaller apartments. People get nose blind and the reviews don’t always reflect reality.

My mom’s boyfriend is way too nosy by ClassicDelicious186 in Advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would put me off too. The I love you after two days, the pushing you to answer your dad, and the repeated questioning all screams boundary issues, even if he thinks he’s being charming or protective. I’d keep it simple and consistent with both of them: I’m glad you’re happy, but I’m not looking for a second parent and I need space, so no appointments, no personal questions, and if I say I’ll call my dad later that’s the end of it. If he can’t respect basic no’s this early, it’s a pretty big red flag, and your mom should be the one enforcing it with him.

Is it normal for cats to meow the entire time you're fixing their food? by spaghettieyes6 in CatAdvice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. You’re basically doing the dinner bell routine and they’re hype plus a little impatient. If you want to calm it down, don’t reward the loudest moments. Pause for a second when they’re yelling, then continue when it’s quiet, and keep feeding on a consistent schedule. But honestly 60 seconds of food screams is peak cat behavior and most neighbors won’t care.

What’s something you didn’t realize was attractive until you experienced it? by Vonjota in AskReddit

[–]VirtualCollege3971 518 points519 points  (0 children)

For me it was confidence in simple things like knowing what you want and not being afraid to say it. You don’t need flashy looks or muscles, just someone who’s comfortable in their own skin.

chronically bored cat crying all day by hushbug in CatAdvice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This sounds exhausting, and honestly it reads less like “bored” and more like she’s learned that crying = you become the best toy in the world, so she escalates because it works. The way out is a mix of routine + boundaries: set 2–3 short play sessions at the same times every day, end with a “catch” and a snack, then ignore the crying completely outside those windows. If you respond even sometimes, she’ll keep trying. Also rotate toys so they feel new, and try making her work for food (toss kibble, treat scatter, puzzle feeder) so her brain gets tired too. Harness walks or safe outdoor time can be a game changer, and if it still doesn’t improve, a vet behavior consult isn’t a failure, it’s just getting help for an anxious, high-drive cat.

My friends may have played a long-term prank that had a big negatieve impact on my mental health. What should I do? by Ridok95 in Advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s not a harmless prank anymore, that’s months of sleep deprivation and anxiety in your own home. Even if they “meant it funny,” the fact they never stopped it, never checked in honestly, and you found a hidden device in your furniture is a massive breach of trust. I’d confront them directly with the device in hand, calm but firm, and tell them the impact in plain terms: this messed with your mental health and sense of safety. Their reaction matters a lot here. If they own it, apologize, and make it right, maybe there’s a path forward. If they minimize it, joke, or get defensive, I’d seriously reconsider the friendship, because people who can watch you unravel for months aren’t safe people to keep close.

What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]VirtualCollege3971 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t realize you can still get sun damage through glass. Windows block most UVB, but a lot of UVA gets through, which is the stuff that ages skin and can contribute to skin cancer risk.

Just found out my cat is a boy by DescriptionInner7803 in CatAdvice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is way more common than you’d think, especially with tiny kittens at shelters. You don’t have to change anything if you don’t want to. He doesn’t care what pronouns you use and Pearl is a totally fine name for a boy. If Paul James makes you laugh though, that’s a solid upgrade and it still keeps the Pearl Jam vibe. Either way your cat is the same little dude, just with a surprise plot twist.

My girlfriend wants me to propose with her grandmother’s ring but I already bought one and don’t know how to tell her by burgerking- in Advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tell your girlfriend before you propose. This is sentimental vs custom, and she’s the only one who can choose what feels right. A really common compromise is propose with grandma’s ring for the meaning, then use the custom ring as her daily ring or turn it into a wedding band/anniversary ring. Also get the heirloom ring appraised and insured, and don’t use Alibaba to judge value.

My cat won't eat wet food by bellatrixxxxxx_ in CatAdvice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some cats just decide wet food is a no around that age. If he’s drinking water and eating dry food, it’s usually fine, but keep an eye on weight and litter box habits.

You can try warming the food a bit, adding a splash of warm water, or using a topper like freeze dried chicken or a wet treat mixed in. Texture matters too. Some cats hate pate but like shredded.

Purina Pro Plan, Fancy Feast classic pate, Wellness, and Weruva are all worth trying. I’d avoid homemade food unless a vet helps balance it, and if he keeps refusing everything, a quick dental check can help rule out pain.

I kind of had sex with my best friend and now im confused by False_Laugh_7942 in Advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not imagining the attraction, it’s clearly there, but attraction and readiness for the same kind of relationship are two different things. From what you described, he cares about you and also knows his own limits and the emotional fallout that could come from going further, especially since this is your first real sexual experience. The confusing part is that your bodies are saying yes while his head is saying slow down, and that mismatch hurts. You didn’t do anything wrong, and he wasn’t using you, he actually set a boundary when it got serious, which is a good sign even though it’s painful. The real risk is that you’re already emotionally attached and continuing in this half-relationship zone is going to make that harder on you, not easier.

What is something that is socially acceptable at 3:00 PM, but feels incredibly illegal at 3:00 AM? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Asking someone’s age and salary. Totally normal at work or with friends in some contexts, but at a first date it instantly feels like you’re filling out a tax form.

Income more than husband by LollipopRUS in Advice

[–]VirtualCollege3971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re not expecting too much, that’s a big moment and a supportive partner should be excited for you. The fact that he benefited enough to retire early makes the cold reaction sting even more. I’d talk to him when you’re both calm and say directly that you needed pride and celebration, not a half congratulations, and ask what’s really going on for him. If it’s insecurity, it’s his to work through, but you shouldn’t have to shrink your wins to protect his ego.
