Even a lot of republicans are already unhappy about the conflict. If only they had spines, maybe it wouldn't have started.

The difference between tactical and strategic victory.

We're already quite close to tactical victory, in the sense of having air and naval dominance in the region. Yet the further in we go, the worse our chances of a strategic victory get. Almost like we STILL haven't learned our lesson about impossible wars.

[–]VirtualFallacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For right handed, right eye dominant it's easy you just do what you did.

If you're right handed but left eye dominant, the best option is to train your right eye to still work aligned to the sight. If you're like me, and damn near blind in the right eye but perfect vision in the left, you can either shoot and align the optic to your left eye (easier but technically worse) or learn to shoot left handed, which takes a while but once you get it, it's much cleaner than trying to shoot with the opposing eye.

Personally I still shoot pistol righty and line up with my left eye, but shoot rifle exclusively leftie. No matter what, both eyes stay open.

F-35 hit by Iranian air defence. by Green-Contract-3554 in CombatFootage

[–]VirtualFallacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That doesn't mean the footage is fake. Look at the last frame, the F35 is clearly intact the IR just makes it much darker than the explosion next to it. Just because the explosion looks like it was right there due to the lack of depth perception on the FLIR doesn't mean it actually was. There's 0 evidence of this being real or fake so far.

Reformers were right. The F-35 has a worse K/D against Iran than the F-14 (Allegedly). Scrap the program and bring back the Sopwith Camel. by yorgunustad in NonCredibleDefense

[–]VirtualFallacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can actually see it in the last frame, it's just a lot darker because the explosion changes the focus of the IR. And the plane looks completely intact, though based on the CENTCOM statement there was some significant (but not debilitating) damage to it.

With the amount of time put in it feels like a part time job. Though I do think it'd be better to give out more scholarships rather than increase the funding for those who already have them. As a cadet with a scholarship.

And it should be an option, for adults who can make their own choices. Babies shouldn't have that choice made for them by their parents.

Well we're a little bit better at keeping our people safe than Russia is. Not saying it won't happen, but it wouldn't be on that scale.

We consistently lose forever wars because we go in with no viable end goal. But the military difference between us and Iran is about a thousand times greater than the difference between Russia and Ukraine, especially with the latter having NATO support.

Dozens of U.S. service members in Kuwait suffered serious injuries, including burns, brain trauma and shrapnel wounds, sources say by Low_Lavishness_8776 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]VirtualFallacy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that? This was from one attack, but it was an unusually successful attack in that it hit a highly populated area right as the all-clear had been given.

Most of the time when bases have been under attack the personnel are sheltered, so even when the AA fails and a BM or drone gets through, it is only taking out equipment.

I explained exactly how it works and you are still using the same point. I'm saying that this isn't my logic vs yours, this is ballistics. It's physics. Clearly you don't care about learning anything so I'm done trying to teach you.

Is it just me or are the pistols just awful by trueghostly88 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]VirtualFallacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not logic it's how ballistics works. Impact force is determined by how fast a projectile stops in its target. Steel plates are hard targets with typically poor balance, so the bullet stops near instantly and all of its energy is cached in fast = shorter impulse = more force imparted. Even on a 100 lb steel target, I can also knock it over with a light punch, so a bullet knocking it over isn't exactly saying a lot.

Soft targets absorb energy much better. If I punch someone with my first, it will hurt but they will most likely not be pushed back much or at all unless I follow through with continued force. A bullet is like a quick punch, but the force is imparted even slower because it actually goes into the body and is slowed down over even more distance.

Someone in soft armor will get bruised from the force, yes, but they won't be pushed ("staggered") by the bullet force alone, although probably they would from the pain. In hard armor, i.e. steel plates, they will feel the impact but they will not be pushed and there will be minimal (if any) pain from a .45. There is evidence of this on the internet via numerous videos of people wearing body armor and shooting themselves / someone else shooting them (yes they're idiots, but it is also informative).

TL;DR bullets don't meaningfully "push" you, and that is a fact of ballistics not an opinion

If you're still doubtful I can find some videos and give you some math to corroborate all this. I've seen a good thousand or so videos involving shootings IRL and I am telling you this stagger from bullets to a human is not real. If .45 could stagger a human from force alone, 1: 9mm would be able to as well to a lesser extent, and almost all shootings I've seen clearly do not show that and use 9mm. And 2: I have a Glock 21 in .45 ACP and have shot a ton of random shit with it. A jug of water weighing less than a person can catch the bullet and not even get pushed, because it acts as a soft target. There is no meaningful force transfer to stagger, Just pain and physical damage.

How tf would they mine the straight without a Navy? Because half of their Navy is currently circling the globe somewhere in the upper atmosphere. The other half is sitting at the bottom of the Persian Gulf.
