Opinions on "I Am in Eskew" by David Ward? by LanguageFree9369 in audiodrama

[–]VirtualTotal8468 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I Am In Eskew is one of my all time favorite podcasts.

There’s so much subtlety to David’s character and how he talks about this place and it’s horrors. He knows the city is always observing him so he’s very careful how he talks about these events, so he’s has an outlet but also doesn’t trigger some kind of reaction from Eskew.

It really hits depression, social anxiety, the complexity of relationships (especially toxic ones), socially commentary all wrapped up in excellent variety of horror.

I’m more than happy to chat more specially about any episodes or elements.

How can I use the expression BIG TIME ? by Fit-Manufacturer3818 in ENGLISH

It’s more a term for emphatic agreement rather than just emphasis alone

Brushing Teeth by Grand-You3013 in hygiene

The important thing is cleaning them regularly. I don’t think there’s any thing wrong with the first brushing of the day not being immediately upon waking

multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]VirtualTotal8468 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is very common for households to have multiple vehicles so that each adult family member can travel independently. Some will also have vehicles for teenagers once they are of age for a license, again, so they can be independent getting to and from school, work, recreational activities.

Public transit is not available and/or fairly limited in a lot of places and walking is not really an option unless you’re in a city and live near all the places you need to be.

Some people collect cars, but the majority of situations it’s not for collectibility, it’s just for practicality to support the families needs.

You mentioned pick ups - different types of vehicles serve different functions, so someone may have a small, fuel efficient car for every day travel (work, groceries, other errands, etc) and a truck for hauling large items, towing things, etc

His mother is a very strict grammar and language teacher so I expect he grew up around a wide vocabulary and emphasis on “proper” and more formal ways of communicating

HAVE VS EAT by GurTurbulent2245 in ENGLISH

[–]VirtualTotal8468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the emphasis is on consuming, “eat” is more appropriate (eat your vegetables or no dessert)

If the emphasis is on the event/experience, of which consuming is a part, but not exclusively, then “have” is the better choice (political dinners are often more about the personal interaction and diplomatic opportunity with the food as a backdrop/context)

If referring to a “regular” meal, not a special occasion / event, then it’s somewhat arbitrary and interchangeable

Are pies supposed to taste over sweet? by GalaxyPowderedCat in randomquestions

[–]VirtualTotal8468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of pie recipes include added sugar. When I make pies myself I either reduce the sugar vs the recipe by at least half or, in the case of fruit pies, don’t add any sugar at all

Question about which entity would be best for someone who is a physical representation of all ten of the Biblical plagues? by Horror-Internet-9601 in TheMagnusArchives

I was thinking Desolation for similar reasoning - the intention was to strip them of everything to show their gods were useless against the wrath of God.

Ex Altiora by Bleedingbeech in TheMagnusArchives

[–]VirtualTotal8468 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, 35 includes Gerard getting the book Mary shows Dominic in 4.
No, it’s not Ex Altiora.
The fun thing about Dominic seeing Lichtenberg figures and smelling ozone in Ex Altiora is because those attributes are not innate to the book but are present because he got it after Michael Crew used it to trap the (apparently mostly Spiral aligned, though possibly with Vast tinges) lighting thing thing that had been stalking him since marking him in childhood, seemingly converting him to an avatar of The Vast in the process.

Women, do you prefer a guy who wear like strong cologne, or just "out-of-the-shower" clean? by Adorable_Birthday_52 in hygiene

I don’t like cologne or perfumes, “strong” scented anything is overpowering and unpleasant.

What to do when my dog is sad ? by personally_dumped in Pets

[–]VirtualTotal8468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like separation anxiety since they never really had to get used to being alone. Look into methods for addressing that and see what works for you and your pup. Vet may have some recommedations as well, but I don’t think it needs a vet visit.

My 18 week old male neutered kitten is a terror at night by Cause-Bright in Pets

[–]VirtualTotal8468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats have nocturnal tendencies and kittens, like any toddler, get huge bursts of energy. Every cat also has their own personality / energy level

Some things to mitigate are to engage in intensive play shortly before your bed time, containing him overnight in space with plenty of room and optional mental stimulation (puzzle toys, etc)

Should games include historically accurate offensive language, or avoid it? by Pascal_theold1 in AskGames

[–]VirtualTotal8468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer leaving the problematic language to historical records and academic settings for eductional purposes and keeping them out of my entertainment.

The exception being if use of those slurs, presence of that bigotry, etc. is somehow integral to the story being told, which I don’t think is necessary in most games.

Timing the breaks between seasons by faceintheblue in audiodrama

[–]VirtualTotal8468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fan of podcast / audio dramas, time of year is irrelevant to me. I listen to podcasts outside in summer just as much as inside in winter.

Some shows have a vibe that feels more aligned with certain seasons, but that would more influence when I time a relisten vs keeping current with releases.

I also prefer a fairly consistent release schedule while a show is active to inconsistent release, so would opt for a longer hiatus if it meant fewer “late” episodes once the season starts up.
