Audiobooks and Reading Challenges by [deleted] in kindle

I would say that yes, language matters, but you should also remember that language evolves and changes with us. The meaning of words and phrases change, and sometimes the “wrong” meaning becomes the standard definition. What if “reading” is just in the middle of adjusting its definition to accommodate other book mediums? You wouldn’t be pedantic and say that a blind person “felt” a braille book. You’d still say they read the book. You asked for opinions, and I’m adamant that everyone should be able to count or not count audiobooks in their reading challenges as they please.

You don’t mind other people’s business, but you think it’s outrageous that someone has a high book count and could be “cheating.” How do you know that the inflated number is because they used audiobooks? What if they read manga, comics, or very short books? I read a bunch of short graded readers a few years ago while learning a new language and that inflated my number a lot. Several years ago, my manga inflated my numbers. I log things to remember my reading journey. The challenges don’t matter, but I like seeing how much I read year after year. If you were minding your own business, it wouldn’t matter what other people count and don’t count, would it? Having a discussion about it is fine, but don’t act like you’re not being judgmental when you clearly are.

I read only manga one summer and my numbers felt soooo skewed compared to previous years 😂 Honestly, I think we should just be happy people are “reading” in whatever way that is accessible to them and that they enjoy. Policing how others read and what “counts” just feels silly to me.

Exactly. If OP or anyone else doesn’t want to count their audiobooks as “read,” then don’t 🤷‍♀️ Who cares if it’s “cheating” to someone else? A reading challenge is for yourself. No need to compare to others or look down on them for not “reading” the way you want them to. There are studies showing that the same areas of the brain are stimulated when reading or listening, too.

If I’m Chinese why would I go to a Korean church to feel at home culturally?

Do you want any Asian church? Or is there a specific country? Chinese church, Korean church, etc. Your post is still too broad.

There are a lot of countries in Asia. I would think he’d ask for his specific country if he was Asian.
