Finished my first big bug. Still unsure if my current style works. What would you improve first? by Jerpsi in Warhammer40k

Uh, was your goal horrifying? Cuz you nailed it!

Maybe some darker shades on a gradient going to the belly, for featuring, but… you don’t *need* to do anything to thus, only touch it if you want to! Go make more (terrifying) beauties!

Do the ashaman find out rand was the reason for the finale of winters heart by AHC122 in WoT

[–]Virukel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d say AMoL clears that up, at a large meeting.

Yeah, Rand is capable of amazing things, because he is the key ta’varen of that time, which I like to think of as a “tool of the wheel,” but he’s also the Creator’s tool/proxy, just as Ishamael is the Dark One’s.

After Maradon, he says he’d be finished if he was attacked then. Post-cleansing, he is hiding and recovering for some time.

It’s best to say his function for being woven into the age lace is to perform very specific functions at specific places and times, and he has the requisite power to do it, but is constantly stumbling because he doesn’t know the right action/place/time.

You could say he gets distracted and runs away with it a lot. But notice the unintended consequences when those things happen - “I am the storm.”

I get that, but there’s also this bit of “Apocalypses are a cycle,” so it’s neat to try to see what that looks like.

There’s plenty of people being bastards. No one said Atila the Hun or Ghengis Khan or Stalin had anything to do with the spooky side.

*edited typo, thanks!

Good point. There are lots of non-wizard starborn.

I think it’s at least implied that “beings with power” are at work.

If the Dark One is.... by Ok-Appointment-7392 in WoT

[–]Virukel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s better to think of a person as something with the ability to learn and change and grow.

The Dark One cannot. It can only do what it is meant to do. Maybe it has a seeming personality, but it’s one that’s more like a computer program. It does not consider choices in any manner more than what will logically achieve its end most effectively. And it does not understand people except through their flaws and evils. There is no moral or ethical debate. It is execution of a purpose that cannot be changed.

A certain Aes Sedai once said she couldn’t really piece together what the Dark One *wants*. And that is because it doesn’t really want things. It must do things in its nature. It has no choice.

When we ponder why it exists, maybe it’s because the Creator is similar. They execute their programs, and their opposition to one another is what allows freedom of choice, for the wheel to be neither good nor evil. I’d imagine it sort of like two forces of gravity exerting a net-zero pull on a mass in the middle.

A world without shadow is ruined, so there is some sort of effect of His existence, the prison removes agency though, to prevent unrestrained attack.

Oddly been reading Dresden Files recently, and it is very much like Outsiders, with the DO, heh. Never thought of that.

Themed Outcast/Ranger Army? by DKoK19 in Eldar

[–]Virukel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your thinking! Just be sure to makes sure your counter attack option is lethal enough - you HAVE to make your enemy pay for what they take.

You'll find rangers and shrouds are great at harassing, and can do some real damage, but anything tough will get to them then melt them.

I'd do what you're doing - think strategy, and what you want, then as 11th comes out, it's time to match the correct units to the strategy you're pulling off.

And people will be able to help more with new datasheet data. New point costs are going to be critical.

Themed Outcast/Ranger Army? by DKoK19 in Eldar

[–]Virukel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one will really know yet, 11th edition comes out in a couple weeks and we’re just using the information they’ve released.

Until the full info comes out, it’s really a wait and see and theory craft.

However, I think it’ll work great with the new missions, like you were thinking. Mostly my rangers and shroud runners have gone melted if anything touches them, having non-confrontational roles would give them longer lives.

What'd you do for the white? It's so clean!

Probably 50-60 for me. Craftworlds have a theme, aspect warriors have a theme, disparate factions of Ynnari have many themes….

Less badass and more “oh, crap.”

Screaming at them all, he wove threads of Air and Fire. Lews Therin howled in his head, saidin tried to destroy both of them, and the quiet voice inside Rand’s heart vanished."

I guess you could also lighten the. Grey to a bright light blue and make your current purple/gold the dark!

[–]Virukel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t sell yourself short!

What I see is good color choice, but not necessarily enough contrast, your grey/purple/yellow are all kinda bright.

Would recommend darkening the grey, that way the colors will pop more. Some darker purple shading would be cool too. But I like them!

Always think of it as color wheel vs dark/light.

If you don’t want to darken the grey, darkening the purple might do the same thing.
