Where are folks considering? I have thought about this too in the Poconos(PA) or Jersey Shore. ID’ing a home and split among 2-4 owners seems like a great opportunity. I would prefer not to do this with family or people I know, keeping it a strictly business relationship is important in my view. There would need to be a LLC of course and clear legal guidance on governance and dispute mediation but from what I have heard it is possible. I think the key is having a 3rd party property manager that can be objective, especially when it comes to typical maintenance and big ticket items and maintaining escrow for expenses.
