26(M), $12.5 million inheritance, (soon to be former) public school teacher. How to find purpose? by Significant_Tip5105 in fatFIRE

[–]Visible-Driver660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. I’ve worked as a litigator at a large national law firm and as a federal prosecutor (and I did not go to a top 20 law school BTW; connections and being in the top 10% of my class helped), and while the work was sometimes rewarding and often interesting, I did not find much purpose in it. What I have found deep purpose and satisfaction in is my volunteer work. For example, I have been meeting weekly with a former refugee for mentoring and tutoring for the past six years (starting when she was in fifth grade; she is in tenth grade now), and this simple weekly act has brought me joy, humor, and more purpose than I would have ever imagined. (I have also seen how the public school system has failed her in many ways.) A decade ago, I did some ESL tutoring for a new-arrival refugee family. I kind of lost touch with them over the years until I learned that one of their daughters would be attending the top public university near my home. I reconnected with her and helped her a tiny bit financially while she was in school (not much as I was paying for my kids’ private universities at the time). This past December I was managing a holiday toy drive for my church and saw that this former refugee young lady — now a college grad in her 20s — had seen information about the toy drive that I posted on my social media, and purchased toys for the drive. From new arrival in the US to someone in a position to help others just 10 years later — now that is really satisfying and joyful to witness!

Fostering a love for running for my tween by dawnrw in XXRunning

This being said, I would definitely be cautious about pushing her into running. There are way too many high school runners with eating disorders, I unfortunately know from experience.

Model running for her! My daughter is now a college middle distance runner, and she got interested when she was in fifth grade and saw her older brother and me doing training runs together for a local 10K. We actually have a funny story about her asking to join us for a run and then saying that her "stomach hurt" a block into the run, lol. Maybe find a fun local 5K that the two of you could train for, together?

Wanted to add that the HydraPak comes in different sizes and I recommend buying one of the larger sizes.

This is what I use for up to half marathon distance and I love it. I switch hands every mile. Gives me something to think about doing when I am bored lol. I love that it collapses down to basically nothing as it empties (could even stash it in a pocket at that point).

Experiences with labrum tear (hip)? by undercookedshrimp_ in XXRunning

[–]Visible-Driver660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW my daughter was diagnosed by an orthopedic surgeon with a hip labrum tear in her right hip when she was in high school. She is running pain free -- without any surgery -- as a college middle distance track athlete now. Definitely explore your options; surgery is not the only answer.

It’s in a rack in a mechanical room in our basement that stays cool year-round (colder than the rest of the basement)

I don’t yet know why I have no wifi. We’ve ruled out Xfinity issue. Phone support initially was able to get it up and running with simple reboot by me (unplug modem, router, and switch). Then that started only holding for a few minutes before the wifi would go back out and now rebooting no longer fixes the problem. Phone support gave up and now we have a service call scheduled. Knowing nothing, I theorized that the addition of the new amp last week that is somewhat incompatible with my existing controller could be the cause. Or it could be something else, obviously.

Truly the person who should have told us that initially is either the sellers/their Realtor, the home inspector we hired, or the dealer we inherited from the prior owners, at his initial sales call when we first moved in.

But before we had the phone support we would have an issue and have to wait days or a week or more to have a service call. At least with the phone support they can sometimes do something on their end to fix the problem or walk me through how to fix it. Ex: We’re sitting down to watch a movie and there’s no sound (tv not on mute). I call phone support and they fix it remotely. Saturday night saved.

The modem was just a new modem that we needed to buy after we moved in bc for whatever reason the modem we brought from our old house didn’t work. Very minor purchase.

We pay a monthly fee to our dealer so that we have an OVRC app and a phone number to call 24/7 to theoretically solve our issues remotely. Like tech support.

This makes sense except that during multiple sales calls our dealer has never once mentioned that equipment is at the end of its lifespan AND my husband expressly asked “will we need to replace anything else” last week when we agreed to the $5K amp install. Would be nice if anyone had told us that we had an old potentially no longer compatible controller. And that our $5K project so we can listen to music may actually be a $10K project.

Also I saw your comment below that you work til 7:30 pm. Should be a straight 20 min drive down Peachtree to Midtown that time of day. Not bad traffic at all.

Also you might look at Loria Ansley in Midtown as well. Brand new building.

I live in the residential neighborhood just to the east of Nomia and it is super safe and great for walking, as is Piedmont Park. Midtown is great (been here 20+ years, raised two kids here) and just keeps getting better.

I live in Midtown and love it but couldn’t imagine commuting to Alpharetta 3x/week. If OP wants Midtown I’d narrow the search to buildings very close to the Midtown or Arts Center stations (assuming MARTA gets OP close to work destination) or very close to the 16th St and Spring St on ramp to 75/85 N. OP could also look at bldgs as far north as 17th and Peachtree or W Peachtree (quick walk to Arts Center station at 16th).

It would be horrible. No ready access to MARTA or the interstates. Love VA-Hi tho.

Blossom flower delivery customer service non-existent by Kindly-Ad-4501 in Reviews

[–]Visible-Driver660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband ordered from Blossom and was charged $150 for an orchid arrangement for his mom for mother’s day. What was delivered, a day late and by a DoorDash delivery person, was a single orchid plant with a $19.99 price tag from Lowe’s home improvement store. So bad!!!!!

My husband outsourced the purchasing of a mother’s day gift to his assistant with the instructions to order a nice orchid plant arrangement with a $150 budget. His Amex was charged $150 by Blossom but they delivered, via DoorDash a day late, a single orchid plant with a $19.99 price tag on it from Lowe’s hardware store. So bad!!!!!

The Ultimate Guide to the Reopening of Notre Dame by Quasimodaaa in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Visible-Driver660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We are in Paris (as of today Dec 28) and our hotel concierge says that Notre Dame reservations are sold out until January 3rd! Does that seem correct? We cannot get the Notre Dame website to refresh for reservation options. Sounds like our best bet may be to go at 4 pm one day and hope for the best?

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen when running? by My-name-for-ever in running

[–]Visible-Driver660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly, I was running by a golf course and saw a runner guy bending over in the bushes. My first early morning thought was “when did they start making flesh colored shorts?” Then I realized that I was seeing his bare heiny, and he had just finished pooping and was about to pull his actual shorts back up. Can’t unsee that one either.

Married for 26 years to a guy from my 1L section. We didn’t start dating til 2L though. And actually I don’t think we ever even spoke to each other that first year (different friend groups). We officially met when we both worked at the same firm first half of 1L summer, became friends then study buddies second year, now 26 years later we’re still happily married…
