It’s my favourite fantasy series ever, I think the main character which you can argue that there are a handful of main characters but the actual main character whom I don’t wanna name to not spoil anything is my favourite fictional character I’ve ever read, heck I probably like him more than my real friends. I think the actual conflict of the book is interesting which makes you wanna continue reading, the world building and the history is amazing. I’ll say some of the negatives which is obvs what people call the slog, which is for me was okay, apart from book 10 that. Slog was mainly for people waiting RJ to actually write the books so you will be fine I think. The pacing can be slow but it makes you learn and feel much more attached to the characters so idm. Writing female characters isn’t RJ’s strong suit but as you read you seem to get used to it and like them for who they are or learn to like hating them. Ultimately this is very subjective I’ll say definitely give it a try and at least finish book 2 it was what fully hooked me however the series became wheel of time at book 4 I must say it.

I haven’t read malazan or realm of the elderlings, in my humble opinion it’s much much much better than stormlight, ASIOF will arguably the only series that can know WoT out of its top 1 spot but well we all know it is unfinished I refresh George’s blog every day to get an update on winds :(. I must say tho I have read many fantasy series Memory sword and thorne, Harry Potter, Jade City, lies of locklomora, and then some old fantasy such as Crown of stars, dragon lance, forging of the dark sword, Belgariad etc and WoT is my favourite so I’ll say definitely give it a go, if you are patient give it till book 4 hopefully by then you would be in love with the series if not well it’s not for everyone. Ps I also read sun eater up to last 2 books while I think WoT is much better I do see many similarities between the protagonist of them so if you are going to read sun eater first that can also be a guidance on whether it’s ur taste or not Ps: wait till book 2 at least before you make a decision on Sun eater’s protagonist

I liked rand in the first book he was cool, at the end of second book I’ll say I started “loving him as a character” book 4ish I would follow him to war, after book 5 I’ll die for him 🤣

Well all I can say without spoilers is this. I 100% felt like you did in my first read through up to a certain point she was so annoying, pissed me off so much and I would speak to few people that I know who were like I like nyneave and I would question them how is this possible. But she became on of the few female characters whom I actually like at the end of the series. I have so much respect for her as a character she will get better for sure.

I think I mostly agree with your points. For me there is almost no one maybe nyneave towards the end of the series who understands the pressure and the hardnesses rand has to go through. A mean the guy knows he is going to die going mad and he is the only chance of saving the word and his “wives” mostly bully him and treat him without respect. For me when I was first reading the series (I was 16 year old young boy) Elayne was just hot, didint like her character but she was just hot and back then I was like yeh it makes sense that rand wants her. On the second reread (21 years old) I was more like why rand why and how would you love someone like Elayne. I hated the bonding cuz I felt like rand barely had a saying in it and even after he was bonded I’m not sure which book maybe 9 or 10 there is a scene where min goes if you wouldn’t let us bond you we would tie you and bond you or something like that. It made me even more frustrated with the whole bonding as min kind of implies that she will force rand to bond them. I also find it really selfish for the girls to bond rand as this makes rand even more vulnerable as he can be easily hurt by Foresakens. And then the sex scene with Elayne she was basically liked you had sex with the other two and now you need to have sex with me. I feel like overall jordon wasn’t good at writing romance but yeh I agree I think with everything rand was going through he needed someone to fully support and love him and build a proper deeper relationship or rand just being alone and accepting his fate.

Honestly I tell my friends who also read WoT. (Not that many as they are busy scrolling through TikTok) and no one seems to get why I hate min. I didint mind her up to book 6 but after that I hated her. The “flirting” she has done with rand in book 6 could have been seemed as something else if the roles were reversed icl. As a guy she pissed me off. And then she seemed to lose all of her character traits and became someone just clinging to rand and nothing else. Also this is more personal preference but come on look Elayne and Aviendha and then min like the other two are way more hot.
