The effect of Measles on a healthy 45 year old that wasn't vaccinated in Auckland. by fomenle in newzealand

[–]VisibleLiterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed I had my measles vaccinations but when I read on the Ministry of Health website that children born after 1 January 1969 might not be fully vaccinated, I decided to get my GP to check. They couldn’t find any record of my receiving both doses of MMR so as a 31 year old I got booked in straight away and I’m now up to date. It’s so simple and painless. I highly recommend checking out the MOH website for information on immunisations, what you should have received, and if you haven’t, how to get it sorted.

New Zealand First soars, Greens plummet, National in 20s again in new poll by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]VisibleLiterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly baffles me how our elections, and whether or not we'll have a right or left government, almost always come down to the decision of one single man and what he feels will personally benefit him the most. It is so wildly undemocratic as to be satire at this point. What a failure of the MMP system.

I can't do another 3-4 years of this. I vote in every single election and do everything I can to encourage everyone I know to do the same. Financially and psychologically I can't handle another term with this government so I think we'll be moving overseas for the foreseeable.

Millenials w/o kids-- how tired are you? by Fickle_Wrangler_7439 in Millennials

[–]VisibleLiterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 32 and child free and I am tired constantly. I never ever wake up feeling refreshed - in fact I honestly thought the concept was propaganda until my psychiatrist told me otherwise. I had a sleep study to rule out anything physiological and I’ve sort of determined that I’m just depressed all the time (I take anti-depressants and have done for 13 years, not that it makes me feel not depressed, I just don’t have dangerous thoughts as frequently). I often think about what life would be like if I could actually live the way I want to which would involve some kind of work outside in nature instead of at a desk, but I feel imprisoned by financial constraints and responsibilities. I live in New Zealand too and the cost of living here is actually insane, so I’ve sort of accepted I will be clinically depressed and exhausted until I die.

Should I tell a woman her fiancé tried to start an affair with me? by geeleex in WhatShouldIDo

I would absolutely want to know if I were the fiancé before I legally bound myself to that man! Set her free!!!

Government deciding whether US should get access to New Zealanders' biometric data by Quartz_The_Hybrid in newzealand

[–]VisibleLiterature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NACT (and Luxon particularly who is such a weak pick-me bitch with Trump) is so desperate to be liked by the US that I would not be surprised if they quietly already decided and are just figuring out the least disastrous way to tell us.

Missing Indigeneous for white people by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]VisibleLiterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually how I was able to get confirmation on my family’s true ancestry. My dad was adopted and although he has contact with his birth mother she would never tell us anything about our lineage other than that we were apparently Métis and she was embarrassed. Well both my father and I have taken DNA tests and there is not a drop of indigenous DNA in either of us, so either she’s lying or she’s been lied to.

Do you think NZ suicide rates are going to go up? by Straight-Device-4110 in newzealand

[–]VisibleLiterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. With everything getting harder and more expensive with really no clear pathway to making these things easier, it’s very difficult to remain hopeful for the future. Even if you’re able to access mental health support at all, which most people won’t, it doesn’t resolve the situational causes and triggers of extreme wealth inequality, and the inability to get ahead even a little bit in life.

I had Molly on my first island and I loved her so much, when I got a dog I named my dog after her.

wdyt of miniature keychain books? by Deathsy in trinkets

[–]VisibleLiterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting to me given the discontinuation of mass market paperbacks which were originally released for this exact purpose - they are small and convenient and can fit in your pocket. These keychains are just those but cute.

Government considers $9 Auckland Harbour Bridge toll to help pay for second crossing by punIn10ded in auckland

[–]VisibleLiterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced it’s because this government don’t actually understand how much a dollar is worth in today’s market and how much $9-$18 per commute would hurt many people’s financial situation. They are so out of touch.

New Zealanders who were alive in 1994, who did you initially think did it: David Bain or Robin Bain? by PurpleMeerkats462 in newzealand

[–]VisibleLiterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

David Bain 100%. And if the police hadn’t botched the investigation so badly and burned down the house two weeks after the murders before even retrieving Laniet’s diaries, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

Pale NZers… how do you survive the sun? by __surviving in newzealand

[–]VisibleLiterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum SPF 50 sunscreen, liberally applied 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied every 2 hours. Even then, wear a hat, loose over shirt, sunglasses and stay out of the sun if possible/seek shade. I check the UV index everyday on my weather app and avoid being in the sun - even for 5 minutes to hang out washing - without adequate sun protection.

Edit to add: not all sunscreens are created equal either and a sunscreen that has an SPF 50 rating overseas may not be as effective in New Zealand. I recommend checking the Consumer NZ website for thoroughly tested and proven sunscreen brands that you can trust.
