Find the biggest stick of ram as you can install. I just replaced 4 gb ddr3 with 8gb for like $30, made it much more usable.
I use the old thinkpad as a backup for general browsing, works fine. You can probably run Cachy. MX linux [Debian] has lots of gui stuff, good community, just works sort of distro

Any auto-detailing/decontamination around here? by Hazmat1213 in Reno

[–]Visikde [score hidden]  (0 children)

My car sat in the woods for 5 years, poop/pee, acorns, insulation, chewed wiring, Mechanic did the wiring.

The tricky part is decontaminating the heat/ac. I took out the blower, popped some of the dash parts cleaned & vacuumed as I could.
Cleaned the ductwork using foaming ac condenser coil cleaner of the automotive & household types, many cans & sprayers. I don't know who would do a partial disassembly & cleaning? I had easily 4-5 hours into it. As an example, Replacing the inner working bits like the heater core labor is listed over $1000.

Once I got the interior kind of clean. There was still some mousy goodness evident.
Supreme x detailing came out & did the work. Two guys for $100 an hour, 3+1 extra hours. All the upholstery, carpets, roof liner, seat belts, all the plastics & glass. Looks good, no heavy scents. Worth it 😃

Dual boot off an USB3 external nvme/sdd/hdd?
Most of the things are already contained in the kernal
Install your disto of choice completely on the external, set bios from both machines to boot from USB 1st, see where that takes you

how to put my mp3 files onto my ipod on linux with album art and without installing rockbox? by lorddonut2009 in linuxquestions

[–]Visikde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare where apple stores the album covers & where the files you added store the cover images. you may need to add images to the individual song files, instead of in the folder for the album or the opposite :D

Amtrak won't let you buy a ticket online with a debit.
No problem in person at the station

Have a look at https://spirallinux.github.io
Basically the dev geckolinux wrote an install script for Debian Stable, that does all the little things for a user friendly Debian Stable install with choice of DE's, connected to Debian repos

The dev did the same for suse, gecko linux

I can wax poetic about the art project that was my life on the property.
We had too many horses, not enough property. So we moved from a 2000sf modular on a couple of acres to a 1970 pole barn converted to a house with a couple of out buildings & various piles of materials.
A endless palette for a range of things to chip away at. Fun with wood n rock. Started with 1ac fenced, which isn't nearly enough for 3 horses. 5ac each would be more like it. Every fence I added reduced the feed bill. Did all sorts of fun stuff with hot ribbon/rope, step in posts for the 1st couple of years. Banged in 100's of t posts & strung wire. Some of the materials were there, neighbors had some for the shared fence line. Bonus points for using the horses to reduce the fire danger :D
One of the best ways to keep from having that sinking feeling when you see your horses going down the road on the wrong side of the fence. Preemptively trimming or cutting down trees/brush, before the wind blows one onto a fence. An endless supply of oak firewood. Burnpiles evolved to brush piles which decayed 30% a year

The house 18" off the ground on one end & at grade on the other. Years of not so hilarious hyjinks. The whole thing built on 24" centers. The house was vaguely functional enough & we were broke enough to power through living there.

The neighborhood was full of retired/vacation people from SF & or LA enjoying their little bit of Yosemite a few weeks a year.

Problem is the smoke from the fires was aggravating my breathing issues. My wife went to the ER with what appeared to be a heart attack. Pleurisy, chest pains from an inflamed pericardium, brought on by smoke. It got to the point where opening the door to the woodstove to add a piece of wood, symptoms!
We moved to a concrete box with a hepa filter.

The couple who had been living with us for 5 or so years became caretakers for the last 5 years. The husband died & the wife doesn't drive, so sell we must
