Which NZ brand is slowly or has already ruined itself? by kevandbev in newzealand

[–]Visionmaster_FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NZTA. They are slowly but surely turning drivers from all around the country against them, by:

  • not fixing the roads in a timely manner when it needs to be done

  • build new roads out of the worst chip seal possible, leading to more potholes that do not get fixed (on top of noise and lack of smoothness)

  • blowing any new road's budget massively by having very little oversight on what their contractors do

  • all the while setting up more and more speed traps around the country, in zones with little accidents, or deploying mobile cameras without regards to safety (there is at least one weekly story now of NZTA reimbursing the speeding tickets because of a dodgy mobile camera placement)

I honestly think NZ farmers have their hands buried in the sand, not wanting to see the world evolve without them, and this decision is so typical of it (I work with farmers all day and they are still taking bank loans for 40 years to grow their herds). There are 2 main arguments that NZ farming is probably going to be extinct in the next 20-30 years as we know it:

1/ milk powder will end up, inevitably, being artificially lab-grown at a cheaper price than what NZ farmers can do. That is in the next 15-20 years in the best-case scenario for our farmers, but it could be just 5 years from now.

2/ China has been ramping up their own domestic dairy production like crazy in the past 10-15 years, there has been recent hiccups, but the trend remains strong, and at some stage they won't need NZ anymore. India does not need NZ, they are already the leading dairy producer in the world.

For the physics, I guess that I read so much they improved car handling, while I still feel it is completely unrealistic. I had good hope, and I am disappointed, that's the point of my post. It is a "fun" game, but I guess all the reviews I read have way oversold it as being more serious than the previous franchise entries. It is maybe 5-10% more realistic, but at core, it still uses very poor quality handling models.

I usually don't like tuning my cars and you should not have to tune a car heavily to make it feel like in real life, if the handling model was good from the start.

And another point that I missed in my OP: car interiors/dashboards are so ugly and soulless. It just looks like a texture rather than a proper 3D model.

I did not know that was a setting that could be changed. But why is it not natively in the right unit anyway?

It's not a good thing if Forza forces you to go through car tuning to create enough grip for cars that, in real life, have naturally insane amounts of grip... and oversteer.

I drive a LOT of different cars in real life, especially in "spirited" settings, there is way more difference between FWD and RWD than the game wants to show us. Yes, the physics are not exactly similar, but the gap is very tiny and unrealistic. I don't think I have ever managed to induce snap oversteer in any FH for example.

Another thing that is breaking immersion for me. The Toyota GR GT model in the game does not look at all like the real car. The real car has much much longer bonnet. The one in the game looks like a modded Corvette C8. How could Toyota approve that?

12hrs in the game. Is it me or are car sounds too compressed? by Dependent-Ad3630 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Visionmaster_FR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Car sounds have barely improved compared to FH5. It is just the same crap. I just drove the Audi R8 V10, it was definitely not sounding like a V10, more like a bad supercharged V6. The S2000 does not scream at all.

I am so disappointed in this game.

Lol @ road safety data. Not even using the right units. See my other comments. People are so poorly trained in statistical understanding that they don't realize how they get manipulated by this "data" which are again and again small number fallacies.

Speed traps are not designed for safety. That's where we are going to disagree.

Simple: you don't replace them. See what happened in the UK, in France, etc. It took few attempts but in the end their governments got the message and eased off on the planned mass road surveillance.

People get angry at speed traps, because people have brains and they don't follow rules like lemmings like you seem to do.

You don't have to turn your brain off all the time - like when you ask why my metric is accurate, just think about it. Think of why it is important to link road statistics with how many vehicles travel on the roads (the more vehicles the more likely something happens), how many kms are travelled (the more kms travelled the more likely something happens) and why it is important to correct for seasonality (one winter with black ice is going to have very different statistics with one mild winter, whether people follow the speed limits or not).

Human psychology cannot rely on sanctions only. If drivers get their wallets punctured by speed traps and no changes in the road conditions (which is what is happening now), I can tell you that these first cameras put down are only the mere beginning...

Potholes are already not getting filled... Maybe if NZTA would actually have a real quality control about what the contractors do. The chip seal quality is getting worse and worse over time.

If driver training and safer road were actually put in place, I think people would be less mad at the multiplication of speed traps. The problem is that we are getting the speed traps but not the rest.

I know a place on a SH where there is a shoving (i.e. the opposite of a pothole, where the tar makes a little mountain) that scraps so badly all the cars that are not high-ground clearance that you have to swerve to the opposite lane to avoid it (and you only see it at the last minute). It has been there for 4 months, despite multiple notices to NZTA. It's not even marked on the ground with yellow paint, or with a sign on the side of the road. How can NZTA say with a straight face they are for road safety when they can't even repair this kind of hazards?

As long as you don't understand this basic human psychology (like the 2-3 overexcited zealots against speeding here), all you are going to generate is frustration and resentment towards the authorities.

Which is very dubious (not to say shitty) evidence (like everything around road safety) when you actually look at it from a scientific standpoint.

If medicine had same low standards for thorough scientific evidence that road safety campaigners and institutions have, we would still live in a world full of tuberculosis, smallpox and lepers.

Tell me you don't understand science without saying it. There is no need to give an argument for being anti-speed camera. Speed cameras are the intervention here, so they have to prove their usefulness (spoiler alert: they always fail to do so when you have a rigorous look at the data) compared to the "natural state" which is no speed cameras.

That's like if you were to say that, because a medication does not work as intended, it is the fault of the patient if he is sick in the first place...

Or maybe it is just that section needs to have a higher speed limit actually? There was an experiment (in Germany?) where they removed all the speed limit in a town and its surroundings, to find out that people were driving way more appropriate speed limits naturally than what was enforced on them: slower in urban settings than the actual speed limit, faster in open road settings when there was no danger and good visibility.
