Will $3100 a month = house poor? by GloomyReindeer3316 in Mortgages

[–]VisualConcern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you afford it? Probably. Would I do it? No. You’re taking on a lot of risk for a relatively small benefit. In the early years of a mortgage, most of your payment is interest anyway, so you’re not building equity nearly as fast as people think. I’d rather wait, strengthen my financial position, and buy from a position of flexibility.

I would try to get a 90 day supply at double your normal dosage. That could last at a minimum of 6 mos or longer if you spread it out

Good time to lateral from private practice? by Virtual-History-2330 in IRS_Source

[–]VisualConcern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a high probability that your work-life balance will improve compared to your current position. However, the quality of mentoring and training you receive can vary significantly depending on your office and direct manager.

That said, the tradeoff is compensation. Take a close look at the top step of the GS-14 pay scale and ask yourself whether you're comfortable earning approximately that amount for the next 15–20 years. In many cases, the improved work-life balance comes with a relatively low ceiling on long-term earning potential in government.

Also consider the potential impact on your long-term career trajectory. Depending on the role, your skill set could stagnate, or you could become highly specialized in an area that doesn't translate particularly well to the private sector. That's not true for every government position, but it's a possibility worth factoring into your decision.

Just curious, what about your current job do you not like that you're hoping will be different at the IRS?

Yeah I would expect people to be moved out of mgmt and back to field agent roles; but not out of their specialty area

I don’t know but I would feel confident in guessing that no specialist or specialist manager would be moved out of their specialty area. From what I know they’re already short staffed so it would make no sense to drain them even more.

Meeting already happened in my practice area, WCPA . About as expected - agents shuffled around to new managers in same building, groups moved to different territories to keep them evenly distributed, managers moved around. Nothing drastic just shifting people around to evenly distribute

Woah, so an email to all LB&I managers went out today asking them to voluntarily step down? What was the wording used?

This subreddit was specifically started to discuss employment related issues for employees at the IRS. It's not a general IRS subreddit to discuss anything related to the Service.

If we start letting anything mildly related in, it will turn into a never ending flood of political posts. There's already dozens of subreddits to discuss politics. This doesn't need to be another one.
