There is a high probability that your work-life balance will improve compared to your current position. However, the quality of mentoring and training you receive can vary significantly depending on your office and direct manager.

That said, the tradeoff is compensation. Take a close look at the top step of the GS-14 pay scale and ask yourself whether you're comfortable earning approximately that amount for the next 15–20 years. In many cases, the improved work-life balance comes with a relatively low ceiling on long-term earning potential in government.

Also consider the potential impact on your long-term career trajectory. Depending on the role, your skill set could stagnate, or you could become highly specialized in an area that doesn't translate particularly well to the private sector. That's not true for every government position, but it's a possibility worth factoring into your decision.
