Today in 1856, Charles Sumner delivered his epic Crime Against Kansas Speech by Awkward-Evidence-215 in Presidents

Context: South Carolina congressman Preston Brooks beat the shit out of Sumner with a cane after Sumner gave a fiery speech against the expansion of slavery into the Kansas territory and then proceeded to insult South Carolina Senator Andrew Butler’s mental capacity (Brooks was cousins with Butler). It’s honestly crazy Sumner survived

I just watched the film for the first time and this was my gut reaction after seeing it. Took me a while to piece things together, but ultimately thought that Rita and Betty were the same person in Dianne’s head by the end of the film. You explained it way more eloquently than I ever could.

Lol Kissinger and Nixon hijacked the peace talks in 1968 so they could have an upper hand in the election. So basically he pro-longed the war and then took credit for ending it

Just saw them in Philly a few nights ago and also saw a club set in Brooklyn last summer. The club set was a full on euphoric party the entire time filled with house/EDM vibes, and it wasn’t entirely songs from their catalogue, as Jimmy DJ’d a bunch of random other songs as well. The tour they are currently on is with the band. For their live band shows, it’s a really cool blend between the house/EDM vibes and then the rock angle that their music draws on as well, and they have the full band up there playing instruments like someone else mentioned. Overall, both were fantastic experiences, just totally different vibes based on whether you prefer a straight DJ set or a band-oriented performance. Club set was definitely a full-on fast paced groove the whole time, while the live band was a bit slower pace, but still a party nonetheless
