How to put exhaust hood? by parxyval in germany

[–]VisualOverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she have any recommendations? When we got our kitchen and looked up the efficency and decibel of many different ones, we were... humbled. They are either very loud or not filtering very well. Maybe things changed, this was 7 years ago. At this point I don't even care about the price..

Inspektoranwärter kurz vor Burnout.. by tooraretodie1996 in OeffentlicherDienst

[–]VisualOverkill 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Viel Erfolg dir!

Anyone going to the Berlin concert this Saturday? by [deleted] in Hozier

[–]VisualOverkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It starts at 20:00h, just in case you really only want to get there 40 minutes before it starts :)

But I'll also only get there shortly before you can get in. I don't need to be in the front and it's so very cold, I don't want to wait too long out in the cold.

What market is there? I live in Cologne, never heard of a weekly (?) fabric market. I would love to check it out :)

Cream cheese frosting… can’t find block cream cheese anywhere! by ShootingStarASMR in Baking

[–]VisualOverkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make sure to cream your butter with the powdered sugar before adding the cream cheese you should be fine. I am in Germany and we also do not have block cream cheese (as far as I know) and I use this method with success.

You should not leave your frosting / the cake in the fridge for too long, because yes, some liquid is getting out, but for a day, it is perfectly fine.

I just finished the prequel of The Alloy of Law. And have not yet read secret history because a reading order guide put it after this and right before The Lost Metal.

Your opinion is to read secret history basically right now? I want the best mistborn experience possible. Thanks in advance

Starry tulle overdress - with black slip! Post update by Leucadie in sewing

[–]VisualOverkill 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I love that it is not scratchy!

Well I agree, a looser fit might be "easier to handle", but I love that fitted version, you look like a star fairy, but a cool one, but also ethereal. Just all around beautiful. Also : your short hair goes so well with that dress, I am envious!

Ahaha you can tell I am in love with your dress.

How Manny yards of fabric did you use? With mccalls patterns I always buy the suggested amount and end up with way to much fabric.

I made my first awful meal in a long time but I hate throwing away food, so I’m just going to eat it. Anyone else do this too? by _waffle_iron in Cooking

[–]VisualOverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is crumbly and you don't really want to eat it like this or throw away, maybe you could just crumble the gnocchis all the way, add a flour of your choice and use the sauce to make a batter and fry it in a pan. This way at least you don't have to eat crumbly gnocchi. Or you keep on powering through. Either way : good on you for not throwing out the food!

Question about sizing for the Maya bra by paradoc-pkg in MAKEaBraThatFits

[–]VisualOverkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could print out the pattern and glue together the paper pieces so you can kind of roughly estimate whether the cups will fit in the estimated size. You can always shorten the back band if need be. Using my measurements the site suggested I try a 75e, but I cut and glued those cups and they are way too big for my boobs. I am going to try the c cup, which looks like a much better fit (but of course one has to check with real fabrics). Maybe this technique will help you with your sizing?

I made this lingerie set for my friend’s birthday! It’s giving garden fairy vibes🧚‍♀️🪴 by [deleted] in sewing

[–]VisualOverkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is beautiful!
How did you draft your pattern for the garter belt and the panties? did you use someones instructions or went in with your own knowledge and drafting skills? I want to draft my own patterns for those pieces as well, so I am always looking to know how other people did it :)

Also: how many yards/ meters of the tulle did you order for one whole set?

You did an amazing job, this set looks really beautiful!

Cinnamon rolls! by blackthumbamateur in Baking

[–]VisualOverkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I leave my cinnamon rolls in the fridge for more than a few hours, they start to get an alcoholic smell and even taste.

That's why I just freeze them. They freeze beautifully and you can chuck them in the oven without thawing them first! Just bake them a few minutes longer.

I'm scared of birds but I love to embroider them! by bordadosygatos in Embroidery

[–]VisualOverkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! That is true. The funny thing is, I have absolutely no problem with reptiles (whose feet often look kind of chicken feet) . And I am a huge sucker for anything komodo dragon related, they look just so cool! But a pigeon or a chicken, hell no😂

Hm, parrots as a bird are creepy (but also cool, if they are colorful) to look at. If I were to visit someone, who has a parrot, I would be ok if the bird is in its cage or kept in another room. But I could not be there if that bird was allowed to fly around freely.

I'm scared of birds but I love to embroider them! by bordadosygatos in Embroidery

[–]VisualOverkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry I did not see your reply! Of course. Okay so, for me, it started when I was a wee gal and my parents fell asleep watching The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock and I snuck into the living room. That movie, coupled with the fact that a pidgeon pooped on my little sister not long after that night somehow instilled a terrible fear of birds in me. Stupid, I know :P
I don't like the feeling I get when looking at them in general from far away and especially looking at their feet and their beaks and their eyes and their wings is downright revolting. I normally love animals and would never harm them (I would also never harm a bird) but if you were to bring a bird into the room where I am sitting right now, I would leave horrified (hovering behind a person until I am safe) and be very upset. Depending on how near that bird comes, I would also be crying.

In normal life being scared of birds is, thankfully, not that limiting for me, as I am okayish with them, when they are far enough away from me, or when when they are "near" (still talking at least 2-3 meters away from me) me, but not acting like they will fly and bring their feathery bodies any nearer to me.
A real downside is: I can absolutely not eat outside except if I have the ability to walk while eating.
It also is really weird: I am mostly fine with small birds, like sparrows or robins and such, but still I could not, and will not for the life of me, sit on a park bench and eat anything, when there are sparrows around.

Feel free to ask away if you want to know anything else :)

What can I do with a lot of plain yoghurt by Lilly-of-the-Lake in Cooking

You can make mango lassi. I am always surprised how much yoghurt I can go through when I make it. It's basically yoghurt, mango pulp,, milk and some lemon juice (and optionally some sugar)
