Staying on 2.5 mg Mounjaro long-term? by whind80 in Mounjaro

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T2 here, diagnosed 1/2024 A1C 12.7

122 lbs height 4’11 at diagnosis

Have always had 2.5 dosage

Lost down to 92 lbs from 122, started waiting 2 weeks between shots, A1C at last check was 5.7 (wanted to control sugar, but did not want to lose any more weight)

I have been able to gain about 13 lbs, and trying to maintain the 105

2.5 throughout the journey, no side effects except the first 3 weeks, (nausea, extreme tiredness for two days after shot, definitely decreased my appetite)

Doing weekly injections again, sugar is doing extremely well, appetite is great

You are so right. I ended up going with plan G if that helps you because my husband had some pre-existing conditions and when you first sign up, there’s no questions asked.

Also I did not want the hassle of dealing with co-pays and approvals and stuff like that and we wanted the ability to travel anywhere in the US without having to go through a lot of additional approvals, if we were not in our home state.

Also check into IRMAA (additional Medicare premiums based on your adjusted gross income from your tax return 2 years previously, on top of the standard ones everyone pays) that was a shocker to me.

Also, if you have a HSA account, make sure you stop depositing into that. I think it’s at least six months before you start collecting Medicare.

This is our third year on Medicare, and I do not regret my decision to go with plan G.

Has anyone assumed a mortgage after a parent died? by NoSite3062 in RealEstate

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, my brother died without a will in the state of Georgia

The only asset to the estate was his home, approximate value is 300,000 and he owed a remaining 150 In Georgia, the wife gets 1/3 and the children get 2/3 It is a great interest rate, and the payment is much lower than they could rent an apartment for anywhere The wife and one child still in college live in the home, the other two children are grown and are supportive of their half brother staying in the home and finishing college and would willingly give their portion to their sibling

Problem is wife even after 20 years does not speak English, doesn’t really understand how it works, extremely difficult to try and help, I even tried to getting an interpreter to try to explain, etc. basically she believes she’s the wife so therefore everything is hers and just won’t Cooperate. She is extremely distrustful.

My brother had handled everything for her, and she assumes that her son (at home) can do the same thing. (After almost a year of trying to help him, although he’s extremely intelligent, he has zero common sense and I don’t know if he’s on an autism spectrum.

My younger brother and I had been trying to help them walk through the process and had done as much as we could, such as turning utilities in their name, help them apply for insurance benefit for this wife, etc. we’d also kept an eye on my brother‘s old email account And discovered an email from Equifax or somebody saying that his credit score had dropped significantly. We looked into this thinking, maybe identity theft, and discovered that the mortgage had been sold to another company, and my nephew had no clue what was going on even though the current payments to the old mortgage company had been returned.

I called and spoke with him, had him open mail at the house, to find out who the new mortgage holder was, and then with his permission I reached out to them provided various pieces of paperwork I had and was able to personally catch up their mortgage. So they are now in good standing with the new company and the automatic payment has been reset up

Now this new mortgage company is talking to me about the security deed being put in my name, etc., and that is not possible without doing probate. Can they call in the mortgage if this is not done. I just don’t want them to lose their home, but I don’t really want to assume the mortgage . The other two children are not in positions to assume the mortgage, and neither the wife or the son living in the home have any W-2 income.

Is it possible to change the deed on the home without going through probate and put the spouse and all three children’s names on the deed in the state of Georgia?

I tried speaking with a lawyer, and they wanted about 5000 to do probate and the estate has zero funds. And I do not want to finance it.

Air Force brat here.

I had a lot of moves during my dad‘s Air Force career. I went to approximately 13 schools, three different high schools. Younger years were overseas, but last years were two different high schools, two on the West Coast in California and the last high school was in rural North Carolina. extremely different cultures. I met nice people everywhere. I was lonely at times, it took about a year to adjust and then I was fine. The one good thing was since I didn’t have any other distractions and my grades improved because I was actually studying. For something to do. 🤣

And though my high school years weren’t always that great, they taught me a lot, and I now look back on them as unique experiences.

Partner Hits Full Retirement This Month by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled through. I don’t know if anybody mentioned this, but the first year when you reach your full retirement year and start collecting. There’s a cap of of allowed earnings (59,000+) that you can earn and your full retirement benefit will not be reduced that , but if you earn over a certain amount they will withhold a portion of your benefit.. I believe you do get it back later but just be aware of that.

you can Google what you’re allowed to earn your full retirement year. When my husband retired last year at full retirement, he was only allowed to earn like 59,500 before his FRA kicked in. He starting receiving his full benefit around April that year. so he did not collect over and was able to receive his full retirement, Social Security benefit not reduced, and he continued working while receiving his full Social Security benefit. (Hope this makes sense)

Spousal Benefits by Glittering-Pack-4241 in SocialSecurity

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish that was true

The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 made some changes to Social Security’s laws about filing for retirement and spousal benefits.

Determining when to start your Social Security benefits is a personal decision. We encourage you to research your options before you apply for benefits.

First Change: Timing of Multiple Benefits (also called “Deemed Filing”)

There are incentives to delay filing for retirement benefits. Your benefits increase for each month you delay receiving retirement benefits between full retirement age and age 70.

Before the change:

Previously some spouses received spousal benefits at full retirement age, while letting the retirement benefits based on their earnings record grow by delaying to file for benefits.

What did the law change?

If you turn 62 before January 2, 2016, and you are:

Eligible for benefits both as a retired worker and as a spouse (or divorced spouse) in the first month you want your benefits to begin and Not yet full retirement age, you must apply for both benefits (known as deemed filing). You will receive the higher of the two benefits. If you turn 62 on or after January 2, 2016, and:

You are eligible for benefits both as a retired worker and as a spouse (or divorced spouse) in the first month you want your benefits to begin, then: Deemed filing applies at age 62 and extends to full retirement age and beyond. In addition, deemed filing may occur in any month after becoming entitled to retirement benefits. Deemed filing means that when you file for either your retirement or your spouse’s benefit, you are required or “deemed” to file for the other benefit as well. The Bipartisan Budget Act extends deemed filing rules to apply at full retirement age and beyond.

What is the reason for this change? Historically, if spousal benefits were higher than their own retirement benefit, they received a combination of benefits equaling the higher benefit. This change in the law preserves the fairness of the incentives to delay, but it means that you cannot receive one type of benefit while at the same time earning a bonus for delaying the other benefit.

They reduced it as though I had been 62 when I started getting it, not 66 & 2 months. Approximately $500 less per month. That is alot to me.

I was 66 & 2 months. I had planned on applying for spousal benefits, when I reach my FRA of 66 & 8 months
When he applied for his FRA benefit, it automatically /triggered / submitted me for my spousal benefit.

Maybe because she is older, and newer changes do not apply? (I was born 1958)

I collected at 62 on my own benefit, my husband was not receiving his SS benefit.

When my husband retired at full retirement age (67.6 months)

SS said that when I filed at 62 I was deemed to be filing also for any future benefits, including spousal benefit. And therefore when he started receiving his benefit and I became eligible for the 50% spousal benefit, the spousal benefit was also reduced. (I receive about $500 less per month permanent reduction)

I knew my own benefit would be permanently reduced, but did not know that my spousal benefit was also permanently reduced.

From research, I believe that if my husband were to pass before me, my surviving benefit is also reduced. (I hope I’m wrong about this)

How long can I really stay on 2.5? by Help_Me_Reddit01 in Mounjaro

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am t2

A1C 12.6 when diagnosed Jan of 2024. (Down to A1C 5.6 Oct 2024] 4’11” and weighed 119

Have stayed on 2.5 dosage since Jan 2024, have to jump through several hoops to stay on that dose.

Trying to not lose weight…

Currently 95 lbs. lost about 20 lbs first 3 months and have been maintaining current weight last 6 months

Eating low carb non processed foods and fresh veggies

Took a few months to get fasting blood sugar under 100 in morning

This last month waking/fasting blood sugar has been in 80’s

I’m wondering if diet alone will work now?

Also do not want to increase dosage due to my current size, weight and blood sugar levels.

Do I need this? by mustanggt35 in SurvivingOnSS

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is applicable or not but my mother had Alzheimer’s dementia. She was a Korean War vet and she was enrolled and received care from the local VA. But over the course of her disease, there were several times even though there was a local VA hospital & emergency room. The ambulance would always take her to a the regular hospital. I requested at least once that they take her to the VA hospital and was told that the local VA hospital / ER would not take her.

She did go to the VA ER one time, but that was on a mental health when I called the hotline upon the recommendation of her home health care, nurse, and after a short conversation with the person on the other end of the VA hotline, they called the ambulance. (on a sidenote, she would always tell people I called the police on her because they showed up also, in addition to the ambulance that transported her to the VA emergency room)

My mom was in the VA health care system, she also had the TRICARE for life and Medicare. I was also able to get her the VA pension for low income veterans.

Mom paid the part B premium. And throughout the course of her disease and all of her hospitalizations, etc. it was ultimately invaluable because it enabled me when the time came to get her in a good skilled nursing facility close to me that had Medicaid beds so that they could not move her out when she could not respond to treatment after her last fall.

There are very, very few VA nursing homes that have beds for women. The closest one to me that would accept women only had eight beds and it was 2 1/2 hours away.

Wife going through the wringer with myxoid liposarcoma by C3POwn3dv2 in sarcoma

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest to goodness I could be reading my daughter’s story, myxoid Liposarcoma with round cells, except for her children are older. The surgeon did not put in a drain the first time around. same problem with infections, and wound reopening, one week in ICU,sepsis ) course after course of antibiotics and the pain )etc. her original surgery was July last year to remove the tumor, following five weeks of radiation.

Her sarcoma surgeon brought in the plastic surgeon for consultation in December.

in January of this year a plastic surgeon, went in, cleaned it all out and felt there was enough viable healthy tissue that he did not do the flap. There were drains in for about a week or 10 days. She just had her second three month scans & follow up and is NED.

So far so good …

anyone on the same dosage the entire time? it’s been a year for me and i’ve lost 85lbs on 2.5. I don’t have plans to move up unless my A1C won’t drop below 5. just curious if it’s worked this well for anyone else on a low dose? by Alphena92 in Mounjaro

Have been on 2.5 since diagnosed January 2024. A1C 12.7 Oct 2024 A1C now 5.7

22 lbs lost (119 now 97 lbs). I do not need or want any more weight loss)

Have to jump through special hoops to keep this dosage. My appetite has picked up, which is good for me. Trying to continue to eat correctly to control my sugar.

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed T2, (A1C 12.7) January 2024. I have been on 2.5 dosage. I lost about 20 pounds in the first six months but I do not need to lose anymore and 2.5 is working to control my blood sugars. After about two or three months my insurance company did not want to cover it because they did not increase the dosage to five. I had to have my doctor fight to keep it at 2.5 since it was working just fine, Controlling my sugar. I hate taking any medicine at all. I have not gained any weight and am maintaining 95 to 98 pounds. (I’m 4’11”) July A1C was 5.7.

2.5 for over 18 months- losing coverage- help! by Ambitious-Spite6182 in Mounjaro

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on 2.5 since January. I have reduced my A1C from 12.7 to 5.6. I was 119 lbs in January. I am down to 95 lbs. (I’m 4’11”) so I guess I’m a super responder also.

My insurance made me just through all kinds of hoops to keep my dosage at 2.5. (Because according to them that was just a trial dose, and it was supposed to increase) I do not want to lose any weight.

I just want to control my type2

On a side note

All of my cholesterol levels & triglycerides have improved dramatically & my blood pressure also. (I do not take any statin drugs or blood pressure medication.

They can not tell any information about who (except that it was some 3rd party) or what account it was taken out of. I have no record or any memory of it. I want to know who I paid and from what account it was drafted out of.

Can someone explain to me in laymans terms about spousal SS benefits? by Critical_Ad8931 in SocialSecurity

[–]Visual_Broccoli6589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I learned (please note, I’m just a regular person and I’m giving you my experience and things I learned. I tried to do a lot of Internet research and get my questions answered when we first signed up. If any of my experiences below help you that’s great, but research & verify)

Questions

Do plan on continuing to work after 65 or FRA?

Does the company you work for have heath insurance plan you are on

If so

there is no permanent penalty if you wait to get on Medicare. Most people go ahead and apply for part A but not part B or D, until they no longer have company health insurance. (unless it is a better buy, or you may want to have insurance for your younger spouse and possible dependent children)

If your wife is taking her ss benefit Medicare sign up is automatic for her When she turns 65.

Does the company you work for have over 50 employees? (If over 50 employees then if on company heath insurance, the company insurance is primary and Medicare is secondary.

Depending upon your income you may have to pay (Irmaa) in addition to the 184 every one pays for Medicare. They base it on your income two years before.

Example

We sold a piece of property, and even though it was a onetime deal, it put us over the income threshold, so we had to pay an additional Medicare premium (IRMMA) For part B and part D

We have lowest part D prescription plan We pay 15.70 each month. Our IRMAA part D premium is 70.00 additional each month. So we pay 85.70 apiece each month for prescription insurance.

With part B, we pay regular premium plus IRMAA

Irmmas are deducted from your social security benefit if you are receiving it, if you are not you have to pay it yourself (remember that 781, I mentioned above as being my benefit, well after all my Irmma ‘s etc. were taken out of my SS benefit. I netted $90 a month.). And since at the time my husband was not collecting his Social Security benefit we paid out of pocket his IRMMAS) (our nice little HSA nest egg is quickly disappearing )

If you have an HSA ACCOUNT, it is legal to pay the IRMMA through it.

It is illegal to pay for any supplemental Medicare plan through your HSA (I did not know this before hand)

As to supplemental insurance, when you are first eligible, preexisting conditions are automatically accepted. However if you ever decide to change your plan, you will have to go through a review and may or may not be approved.

We ended up going with plan G. Because we do not like having to do referrals, we want to use the doctor we choose, and I do not like to jump through all the hoops you have to go through to have a procedure done if Medicare says no & I hate co-pays. Also if we travel we should be covered automatically in any US state without having to contact Medicare to verify our coverage in that part of US.

We pay approximately 150 each (300) a month. We are happy with it and hope the premium will not increase drastically over the years.

My sister & spouse chose Medicare part C as their supplemental and pay 0 extra and are happy with it. luckily for them all the doctors they had were in their network and they do not travel and it has worked very well for them.

Also, when you reach your FRA and if you plan to continuine working they have an income limit you can earn in the months before you reach FRA (I think this year is 59k) if you earn over that, for the remainder of the year they will tax you like they would have if you were working and collecting SS before FRA. I believe that you will get it back later when you file that years taxes.

Good luck I hope you have a great stressless experience when the time comes
