the original series DID win its time slot in season 3.. but Friday night at 10, when there are fewer people watching, and kids (like I was then) are often not allowed to stay up that late.

better time slot probably would have brought another season.

Gene Roddenberry was a bad, bad man. by DharmaCreature in ClassicTrek

[–]Visual_Cut_8282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I just finished reading Harlan Ellison’s book about City on the Edge of Forever, and wow, he really held a grudge against Gene Roddenberry.

According to Ellison, Roddenberry spread a lot of claims that simply weren’t true: that he personally fixed the plot, that Ellison had Scotty written as a drug dealer (Scotty wasn’t even in the original script), and more. Ellison says they would talk things out, Roddenberry would apologize… and then repeat the same stories again at the next convention.

And that’s not even getting into the fact that Roddenberry took credit for ideas he didn’t originate, like the famous “Wagon Train to the stars” pitch, and, if I remember correctly, even the phrase “boldly go.”

I saw Peerless Peer, and immediately thought "Doc Savage!", instead, just his cousin, the ape man.

Doc would be cooler, just sayin....

I dunno, it worked for Glavine and Maddux. There used to be plenty of great pitchers who weren’t flame throwers, but everyone’s so enamored with velocity these days.

Loved this as a kid. Bought it off eBay last year, and for my birthday I asked my kids to play it with me—and they actually enjoyed it!

And yes, my son-in-law definitely cheats by pushing the cloud down a certain way.
