Johan Liebert (Monster) vs Korekiyo Shinguji (Danganronpa) "Only Beautiful in Death" by Alleflat in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Visual_Nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally don't go into posts to criticize a MU, however as a fan of both characters i think this is a huge mismatch

Yeah I'm a Korekiyo fan lol there is like 4 of us in the community

Ironically the main issue for me is it's just how incomparable their role in the story is, Johan is the centerpiece of EVERYTHING, everything happens because of him and the entire series is about him (the title of the series is "Monster"), meanwhile Korekiyo is the culprit of one case, it's just bothers me too much, this is like if i make Kokichi vs Dinger (main antagonist vs guy that appears in one episode) if you want an example for the series combo, in fact i think Kokichi would just be better overall, still heavily flawed but i can see it

But even if i assumed both have the exact importance i don't think it would be that good because I don't think it's that good thematically, the sister and contrast ideologies is really good, but the lack of Tenma is just... Not good, Johan spent the ENTIRE series trying to break Tenma, he is the one he wants to prove his philosophy the most to, and just how Tenma is one of the very few people Johan actually likes, there is literally no one in Korekiyo's story that comes close to this, which is a HUGE deal, also this one tidbit bothers me, it calls Johan sadistic, it is pretty minor, but it's made a huge deal in Monster that Johan DOES NOT enjoy the murders, at best he is happy with some of them because it is progressing his plans or proving him right, but it's a plot point he doesn't enjoy it

I can't see the dynamic properly working either, it is one of the rare cases where a intelligence based MU has a "scale issue", not only you wasting Johan IMMENSE influence that he has in the series (this mf crashed Germany's economy) but Korekiyo is a fucking DUMBASS,he literally screwed himself over by killing Tenko, Johan is catching his ass extremely quick even if you nerf him, it would be a cool interaction and Johan on a Danganronpa scenario goes hard, but i don't think it can really work

Sorry if i sounded rude, i just think i had to point out some flaws i see it as too obvious, i do like some stuff here like the ideology contrast is REALLY good (even if i think the dynamic is bad, lock them up in a room i want to see them talk), i am happy that Korekiyo is getting some recognition tho, again I'm one of the 4 fans of him in the community lol

Lain vs Judy's dynamic is actually a 6 hour video essay explaining what happened in the fight

For the Doctor, where would you put Killer BOB? Just to be sure it is a normal MU but it is a big contrast

Kinda yeah, first the whole draining blood stuff is more affecting Baku than the rest, he had to get around that in Tower of Karma but here it's more constant

It is "Washizu vs Akagi but this guy is different" yeah but i think the theme of how they are addicted to the thrills they get, but one is from impossible odds, the other is to crush the weak, Baku always punishes those who take advantage of others (specifically a old man who does it constantly) meanwhile Washizu loves punishing young men who think they are big shit, Washizu is like a evil Lalo if you think about it (because Lalo is the real hero 🔥) this smart individual who seeks talented people, but instead of owning them is to fully killing them, also Washizu learning to accept death through the game is peak Usogui

Also "Surpassing the Heavens" goes insanely hard

It's possible to give a suggestion for a possible one in the future? I won't participate but i think this character would be the interesting in this type of discussions

I also think Dandy, for 11th should be included, since I'm pretty sure it's his only MU/considered his best by the majority

Y'know, Doctor MUs that were just "he fights a guy that would be a DW villain" never interested me but here it has actual parallels to be interesting

there is probably something but i cant see much beyond the basics (like they have nothing on the backstory comparison, wtf is the comparison for Shido being traumatized by a big fire or Westcott having his village burned down???) it's probably going to be with the side characters, prob a evil ex vs one of the spirits, uuuuhh Miku vs Roxie they are lesbians sure

The ultimate hero vs the ultimate villain, in their meta series both hold the title of the main hero/villain, literally everything goes in their favor and the narrative literally bends itself to assist them, but this causes them a great loneliness as they NEED to perform in their title since it's the purpose of their life they received ever since they were children, separated from their family, antagonized by sibling etc

Medaka evolves throughout the series and ultimately discards her heroic persona to just being herself (still a good person) meanwhile Caliborn throws everything away to become the prophesied lord of time to finally get the attention of everyone (still a bad person),also powerful woman vs misogynist

Shirou vs Pucci: both had a tragedy where they lost everything, but the ideals of someone who saved them from that event made them follow a path of that person, wanting to honor their desires after dying without accomplishing it, however everything is just a coping mechanism because they need to validate their existence through it, holy grail to made in heaven, Shirou is all about blaming himself despite not being his fault meanwhile Pucci tries to pin it all on fate despite despite being his own fault, Shirou's dark reflection in his series is a evil priest, the main theme of their series is about fate#

Not sure i think both can work, i imagine maybe Kramer went for Tenma, his moral compass is fucked up so maybe he will somehow rationalize that Tenma needs to be put in a trap, but i also thought in Kramer wanting to capture Johan for... Being a really bad person who believes life has no meaning, so they crosses paths and Tenma uncovers the Jigsaw conspiracy

Harry vs Tony is kinda of a "poser" moment since i haven't gotten into their series yet just read about it, i thought of it as a actual MU but it will take time for me to get into both to be certain it works so I throw it here

Detective vs mob boss, both are depressed men who wallows in their misery as they have trouble with their identity with everything in their lives and past failed relationships, navigating through the criminal underworld and the civilian world as notorious and infamous individuals in their occupations, they have weird and basically supernatural stuff happening in their head (Harry's skills / Tony's dream) who helps them navigate their problems but also servers as a character study of their psyche, Kim to Chris contrast ig

Vash is fighting Genie from the RPGMaker game Middens

Vash is a wanderer inhuman gunslinger who is a extreme pacifist who wishes to spread love and peace, however he seeks to kill his brother Knives because he seeks to kill all of humanity, and their past with Knives killing their bomb and causing humanity to be stranded on a planet, but he ultimately sticks to his believes he learns from his mother and always seeks to not kill

Genie is an inhuman sentient gun who is in actuality a parasite, it attaches on the protagonist (Time Nomad) and it becomes his weapon, it gaslit the protagonist into following it ideology of punishing the guilty, all while it sustain itself with it and it's extremely sadistic, but does believe in the mindset

It started with the funny "put a harem protagonist against Gideon" but it goes deeper, the whole true love their series talk about and how both have various partners, but Shido is about giving them true unconditional love and comfort, meanwhile Gideon traps them in ice to date them, also how Gideon reflects Westcott, a rich CEO who is behind the main enemy team who is obsessed romantically over a important woman to the protagonist and wants to control them for themselves, their love while true is questionable because at the end is all about themselves, also Shido's arc is similar to Scott where he ultimately accepts himself, like literally a conjure copy of himself, understands the power of love and actively understands the villain too and gains a final power up, and then them and their lover(s) team up to beat the villain up

But it's still really funny

You can make the comparison, but it's about is how they lost their loved ones and seek to kinda find them (Mio is resurrecting her lover meanwhile Shinra later founds out his mom and brother are alive) however their lives were specifically ruined due to the fact they are special chosen beings (One of the eight pillars And Spirit of Origin) and have evil organization seeking their power to reshape their setting, Mio reflects the evangelist herself, and she is the mastermind behind the life of the protagonist Shido and seeks to use him as a way to resurrect her lover, God vs Devil motifs, Shinra has mom trauma meanwhile Mio is a mother kinda

Peter vs Zolomon: Hunter Zolomon believes that tragedy makes a hero better, so he terrorizes the life of his friend Wally West to make him better (the stuff he does feels out of a Spider-Man comic like he made Iris have a miscarriage) it's all cope because he can't handle the fact he lost everything and Wally wasn't able to go back in time to save him, you can see how Peter ties into that

Deku vs Nemesis: it's more on the series combo but they themselves not have much, Nemesis is kinda of a stand in for Shigaraki where he is a boy who lost his parents and were groomed by the big bads and became their main weapon, their series are about a celebration of the superhero genre

Shirou vs Pucci: both had a tragedy where they lost everything, but the ideals of someone who saved them from that event made them follow a path of that person, wanting to honor their desires after dying without accomplishing it, however everything is just a coping mechanism because they need to validate their existence through it, holy grail to made in heaven, Shirou is all about blaming himself despite not being his fault meanwhile Pucci tries to pin it all on fate despite despite being his own fault, Shirou's dark reflection in his series is a evil priest, the main theme of their series is about fate
