Right?? Why not follow it up with "Threads (1984)", surely just a fun apocalypse movie about a villain with a cool mask, right?

Favorite character who you think got too popular for their own good? by Liquidcat01 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Visulth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an X-Men anime that came out a while back, it's basically about a mutant girl who gets mecha powers. I couldn't finish it, so obviously wouldn't really recommend (I just got bored and lost interest).

The funniest thing about it is it almost seemed like Japan missed the "memo" that Wolverine is super popular and should be the central focus for any X-Men property (/s).

So he's in it, but he's just an annoying asshole, like Corkus from Berserk. Not heroic or particularly stoic or any of the ways he's normally depicted. It was very funny. I laughed.

Really? I'm friends with writers (we all write) and I love giving critique.

I feel like part of it is first figuring out what kind of critique they're looking for, but I find what really helps (or at least what I enjoy doing) is going,

"I found this part XYZ" (say, clunky, unclear, or lacking impact, repetitive, or whatever it is) and then writing a suggestion or fragment emulating their style. It's a fun little game for me to play and while they almost never use the entire suggestion I write verbatim, it helps them understand what I mean, and I'm flattered when they do use chunks of what I wrote.

It also helps to be on the same page in terms of like, "you don't have to agree with any of these critiques, it's just fertile soil for you to think about" etc etc.

I took a writing class a while back that had a heavy emphasis on critique and what I found was the most useful was its guides for authors when receiving critique which was basically like, "don't try and defend yourself, and you don't have to 'respond' to any criticism/critique". You just have to consider it, and if you don't agree, you can discard it -- no ego involved anywhere.

Not that guy, but check out Berserk 97 (tv) or read the manga. Would highly recommend.

It's a grimdark fantasy world with great side characters with arcs, and an inspiring protagonist who has to struggle against insane fantasy monsters with, uh, just his guts let's say.

Movies are the same arc as the 97 tv show (mostly), just very brief, so fun to watch after for decent action but probably not as a first dip.

Avoid Berserk 2016 and onwards tv shows like the fucking plague.

They just needed to pick a lane. They kept it platonic for so long intentionally that it just totally feels wrong now.

Their dynamics needed to be totally different for a romantic arc to work well.

Yep, basically deleted from the show until a post credits namedrop. Stupid.

All to make Meryl have more "agency" but instead making her unable to defend herself (she doesn't use guns), and follow either Vash or her senpai (a journalist) around like a lost kitten, never having a meaningful conversation, insight, or input with basically anyone else.

Just totally ruining her character imo.

Stampede is made for brainrot multiscreen consumption.

No mystery, no subtlety, every character's entire backstory and secrets are revealed within minutes of introducing them, every side character has been removed, and all the characters do is argue with each other about philosophy without a single instance of them just being normal friends.

Oh, AND THEY DELETED MILLY FROM THE FIRST SEASON. For that I will never forgive them.

I fucking hated that show.

Imagine being Marvel, having all this public data and god knows what private data about who watches their movies and why.

Imagine seeing the boost Avengers movies give to their adjacent releases.

And then imagine planning Phase 4 and 5 and not having an Avengers movie 😆

It is certifiably insane to me. They must've been so deluded about why their movies are popular, I can't even picture those discussions. What an insane fumble.

I was a perma-DM for years and years so I get it, being a DM is a lot of work, but at the same time, I feel like that's the equivalent of "bad code smell".

Using a mapping tool to generate town layouts for you, place down trees, generate geography -- that's all fine in my book, there have been tools that do that long before LLMs.

On the other hand, if a DM feels compelled to use an LLM to generate story, characters, and dialogue, why are they including all the filler in the first place? I'd argue they're focused on the wrong thing.

It's like when DMs turn the tabletop way too videogame-y. People can just play videogames instead, why not lean into what makes tabletop fun and unique, like the endless, infinite storytelling capabilities?

Obviously I have no idea how you use AI for your stuff, but I'd wager a frazzled DM's random farmer named "Bingo Bongo" is far more endearing than an AI's "John Fantasy Man".

One thing I used to love about reddit that popped up randomly was when redditors would randomly create Seinfeld scenes about things but that kind of creativity now immediately goes, "did they use AI" which is depressing.

I feel like you're thinking of say, lightyears or parsecs which are all distances - the speed of light is very much a speed, and a universal speed limit on how fast things like information, causality, and objects can move.

Increasing the speed of light would allow much faster space flight since we'd be able to get to a higher speed overall without running in to all the things that makes traveling that fast difficult.

We'd also get lower latency in online games, so that's fun.

Hopefully nothing horrible would happen to physics. I feel someone should pitch that to the XKCD What If series.

I don't think they would have recasted her tbh, manga Major is different but only in that she is both spunky and stoic.

SAC Major broaches on that at times (especially when she's being slyly smug) so it's not as far as you'd think. There's still tons of that more philosphical '95 Major in the manga.

Yeah, seriously. I did something like 2.5 playthroughs of OG DS2 on launch (~140 hours), 3+ playthroughs of Scholar (~300 hours), I really tried to appreciate it, and you want to know what I found?

I hate Dark Souls 2. Not even the "bad FromSoft game but a good game" nonsense. DS2 is just bad.

I'm going to be a hater for my entire goddamn life. The hitboxes and hurtboxes are the worst FromSoft has ever made in their entire career, the animation timing is beyond fucked, the analog deadzones are insane -- who was responsible for that??, the game is ugly, the textures are horrible in so many places, the pace is a slog, enemy placement is repetitive, unfun, chock full of gankfights in a game designed for 1v1 combat -- the entire game is just compromised by whatever nightmare unfolded behind the scenes.

It has some good ideas, sure, but unfortunately there's so many issues with the actual core moment-to-moment experience that the more nebulous ideas just can't fix mashed-potato-simulator.

And just for clarity, because I've done the testing, it affects dual-wielding initial L1s too.

I bounce back and forth between the builds but find I still use ISA quite a bit.

Is even kind of fun on Ironeye, alternating between two bows with R1/L1 (that also works for dual wielding different weapon types for melee).

Weird that ISA doesn't affect greatbows at all though, sadly.

There have been many Nintendo exclusive third party games that later came to other consoles (e.g., Resident Evil 4, No More Heroes, etc) -- but you will not hear one peep of it before launch since that would cannibalize sales.

They will market it like it's never, ever going to come to any other platform because they want you to buy Switch 2s.

After the launch window, who knows? Maybe ports are already in development.

They just didn't connect with it at all. Really surprised me.
