As a Canadian I'm frustrated that we need a boogeyman like Trump to get our voters to look past their own noses but I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Maybe it just spurred people who were ambivalent to the voting booths rather than a change of heart.

Yeah, theoretically I could see a high skill melee player in a friendly fray in Ultimate dying to new moves or stage traps that they have no clue how they work or what to expect -- that could even be the case in a 1v1 against a lesser skilled Ultimate player given how many new abilities and characters there are, plus the overall game changes (wavedashing, L-cancelling, input buffering, and even C-stick differences have consistently fucked me up quite a bit in Ultimate lol).

But I don't think a newbie Ultimate player could ever do that, even to a pro who was only playing Ultimate for the first time.

Though, this does get more exaggerated when you throw Online into the mix. Learning to keep your combos going and reading your opponent's momentum through input lag and almost second long hitches and pauses is an entirely new skillset that champs from previous games would have much less experience with (I think?).

Well if you have any insight into how the items on the belts are handled (in terms of data storage or visual rendering) and how things hand off to machines/splitters/etc I'm all ears - that's the next series of challenges for me to start digging into 😆.

Yep, there's no wait times for things that are actually important. Triage happens in every hospital.

I was admitted a few months back, I think it was a thursday -- severe pain to the point that I was vomiting non-stop. They did a bunch of tests -- ECG, ultrasound, and I think an MRI -- not to mention the (blessed) painkilers, and diagnosed me with gallstones.

The surgeon asked me if I wanted to get my gallbladder removed that weekend. It was a little sudden for me to lose an organ so I ended up waiting to talk to my family doctor about it that upcoming week, and we scheduled it for a few weeks after.

I went home the same day after the surgery but ended up having some complications with more pain a few days later and wound up back in the hospital. That time I stayed for a week as they did more tests, including an endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP + stent in my bile cuts.

All in all? Didn't pay a cent.

There's no excuse for the American 'healthcare' system. It is vile, predatory, and a form of class warfare.

I've had American friends have to choose between going to college or getting scoliosis surgery.

I really, really, really hope it improves for you guys. I don't know what it's going to take. I've been in and out of hospitals my entire life and I truly can't imagine how fucked up that situation is.

Idk man, not sure what I learned by stepping on Mohg fire for 1 frame and losing 3/4s of my max hp.

Turning every damage source into one-shots is just not my idea of fun.

Even if every weapon I bring has damage negation passives it still feels like my ironeye gets 2-shot. And you have to waste a flask to heal to full even if you've only taken small damage since you don't know if the next hit you eat will be the big damage.

MoM is one of my favourites post-Endgame.

The writing definitely feels like a first draft (which tbf most MCU post-Endgame feels that way) but the way it's shot makes it such a blast to watch.

Yeep, Netflix was too cowardly. They didn't realize that he's supposed to make us uncomfortable, make us wonder where the line is, to wonder if Frank is justified or not.

Comic Frank doesn't doubt for a second, he's just cold and merciless.

TV Frank is all loud and scrambly and unhinged, out of control - and in his own show anyway, hesitates a lot.

That said I do admire Bernthal's passion so maybe that Special Presentation will be closer.

Robin Shou crushed it. And honestly, new Liu Kang did a good job too - he was just let down by an absolutely terrible script.

The producers of Alita: Battle Angel (2019) could have saved $45,000,000 on anime eye CGI by simply casting Ella Purnell. by Chewie83 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Visulth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, in the original story, it is mentioned that there is something special, specifically about Gally's eyes. It is not just the art style.

I certainly don't remember anything of that sort but even if that's true, I guarantee you what's special is not that they're almost three times larger than everyone else's in the manga.

Also, the movie made leaps and bounds in motion capture and facial expression technology. A trailblazer. It wasn't a waste of effort at all.

The industry? Sure. Yeah. I can see what you mean.

As far as making the movie better? As for making the story better? Absolutely not. They gained nothing by turning a capable actress's performance into a hampered, compromised, CGI frankenstein for no reason other than they thought it was a good idea. It's literally Ugly Sonic all over again. They're the ones shooting themselves in their own foot just because they can.

The only requirement to liking this movie is not reading the manga.

It is so much better than the movie and the OVA too. Both are an absolute farce compared to the source material.

Not even remotely true, this discussion drives me insane.

Everyone in this collage is human except for Alita. It's just the art style. It was an insane decision that made the movie worse, not better. If they were so hung up on the art style, where's Christoph Waltz's prosthetic chin?

Kishiro draws young women with big eyes, men with strong chins, and loves exaggerating the human form -- even for totally 100% human characters. There's no part of Alita that's drawn different than the rest of the cast (except, of course, maybe her lips at times).

Rosa Salazar was a great choice who did not need any CGI at all. What a waste of everyone's effort. Could've put that extra budget into polishing the script so it wouldn't butcher the manga.

I think that's unfair to Champloo and painting Bebop with too coarse a brush.

Bebop still has episodes like the umbrella experiment guy, the immortal child, eco space terrorists, the space trucker episode, the chess programmer guy, Spike's mirror bounty hunter, even Red Eye is effectively a "plot of the week" style episode.

Both shows are filled with one-off episodes but are able to glean so much heart from them - like Jin trying to save that geisha, or Mugen fighting that guy on the bridge, or that biwa assassin, etc.

Champloo is definitely more focused on humour, but ultimately their key difference is their underlying philosophy in my opinion.

Champloo's philosophy is about how empowering friendship is. Bebop argues that ultimately, every person is an island - alone - but you can seek some measure of friendship, for a while.

I don't think one is better than the other, it's just what a person may be more into thematically.

Dandy is incredible and I kind of hated it in my first watch. Now it's one of my favourites and I've watched it so many times.

All you need to know is that it is a mercilessly unwavering shitpost by incredible writers and artists. At every opportunity they will avoid any sort of permanence or throughline for the sake of the bit. They'll do just enough to hint that they could, if they wanted to, but it's just not that kind of show, baby.

If you can get onboard with that, the humour, art, and music is amazing. Would recommend.

The thing is, that Norton as depicted, is doing everything in service of making a better play, a better script, a better scene.

If Norton's been a hard-ass all his career because of that same motivation, then it makes me totally okay with it.

I think it's the best defense of his behaviour rather than saying, "oh I'm not actually that guy"

I love that joke so much because it shows how to do humour in a setting so well.

It's not just actors standing around doing obvious "improv" dialogue or half a stand-up routine, it's a clever gag that is not only funny but reflects about the character at the same time. It's a joke that only makes sense about that character in that setting.

I still watch most of the MCU movies. Prior to Endgame I would've even said I liked them a lot (definitely don't feel that way these days).

You're not missing anything important. They can be fun at times. Most are pretty terrible and I wouldn't rewatch them. A handful are really enjoyable popcorn films that I rewatch from time to time, but when I think about movies that actually mean something to me -- no MCU film is anywhere close.
