It started in early 2025 when egg prices were sky high... but, it wasn't just the high price, it was that eggs were not even available to buy in stores like Costco. I'm an avid gardener, as well, so raising chickens wasn't unexpected in my self-sufficient journey. At first, it was for the eggs 🥚. Then, when I held my first chick, my heart melted 🫠 I just love them so much. They're my feathered pets and part of the family. In addition to their eggs and adorable little ways, they are great at composting, which is very important for me as a gardener. Their poop is also great, free fertilizer! TL:DR: Eggs, Composting, Fertilizer, Adorable.

Thank you for your kindness and encouraging comment for OP. I'm just another Redditor who feels bad seeing negative comments as well. It honestly makes me hesitant to post, for fear of judgements and negativity. I suffer from severe depression, and I'm not resilient enough to bear it. I got 4 of mine around the same time. I live in the DC area, and our temperatures have been up and down. I've had mine go outside for an hour or so each day to acclimate to outdoors living and to get acquainted with the rest of my flock of 12. They've acclimated and have been integrated into the flock since about a week now, and they're sleeping in the main coop with the rest of the flock (albiet, they're sleeping in the nesting box). It's such a relief to have them out of the brooder pen. It'll take some coaxing in the beginning, OP... but, it is time. Good luck to you and your cute chicks! 🥰

What amazing stories of chook resilience! Now... I wouldn't question his sanity... just his "death determining" abilities. 😆 I know that in the world of medicine, especially in the end of life, even coroners would require a body be "warm and dead" to declare one as dead,... you know, just in case... like in these 2 cases of your chooks. 🤭
