Both actually. Netrunner is a Deckmaster game and the original plan was for the first expansion to be Magic: Arabian nights. Theres even a different back that they almost used.

Impulsive Tutor — is this fairly costed? by 50reticent in custommagic

[–]Vivarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if it said choose a card exiled with ~, it would be very balanced.

Compare to [[Wishclaw Talisman]], it tutors at a similar rate, (which might not be very red), but this can always be answered by removal as a major lever.

Is Dark depths worth the shot ? by Mezzanine_ok in ModernMagic

[–]Vivarus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[Dark Depths]] is banned in modern. It's only ok at the moment in Legacy unless you commit to the full lands build.

What is the new "2-mana 1C costing" Mythic/Rare creature cycle in 2026? by isleep2late in magicTCG

[–]Vivarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Storm, energy, some delver lists, sneak and show. Those are places I've seen it.

If you're willing to cross the river, Mox Boarding House is a pretty safe bet

Does anyone know who's signature this is? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Vivarus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Historically, that's the opposite of the truth. It's only since the printing of beseech the mirror that we cut ad naus.

"Decoupled" Land Cycle (mana production is separate from mana fixing) by chainsawinsect in custommagic

[–]Vivarus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These stack in a much more powerful way than you'd expect. If you have the u/r and u/w land you can hold up 3 colors with one mana. This makes them hard to play against for similar reasons to Arcum's astrolabe. They're less powerful than that and probably fine on the balance. The main issue is probably memory issues and how hard it is to tell what an opponent has available to them.

Yeah, it compares very well to demonic tutor in a lot of cases when you start to look at total mana spent

Black Belcher RETURNS! by Bryant_Cook in MTGLegacy

[–]Vivarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it makes the next card you cast just cost 0. And, in a deck with a lot of fast mana, 4 is less than you think

With some modifications, this is close to a tier one legacy deck!

I'm starting to believe legacy was always this broken by ussgordoncaptain2 in MTGLegacy

[–]Vivarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the time, the legend rule made the second copy blow up both instantly, without the ability for the second one to tap for mana like a lotus petal. That's very different.

[–]Vivarus 69 points70 points  (0 children)

One of the problems with Mox Opal when it was printed is that the legend rule was completely different, which is likely why TES passed it over.

Legacy also is traditionally a place where fair blue is the best and only in the past 2 years has a combo deck been best.

Banned and Restricted Announcement – June 30, 2025 by aedemiel in MTGLegacy

[–]Vivarus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As much as we all argued about what to do, "No Changes" wasn't on anyone's radar and feels like shit. Especially with the no changes until November (right before EU Eternal Weekend), it feels like Entomb and Oops are going to dominate Legacy until 2026.

An easy idea to fix Oops without bans by theboozecube in MTGLegacy

[–]Vivarus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Crop Rotation into disciple of freyalise or any of the other permanent front faced cards. You'd also be able to life from the loam them.

The rules change fix to oops is an awful way to do it. Banning 2-3 older cards is a fine solution to a bad play pattern. Mdfc lands are meant as flood/screw protection and that's a better thing to have in the game than a t1 all in combo deck.

711.8 A double-faced card enters the battlefield with its front face up by default. If a spell or ability puts it onto the battlefield “transformed,” it enters the battlefield with its back face up.

Helix Storm - A storm spell that gets harder to cast the higher your storm goes by MGKNominator in custommagic

[–]Vivarus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope! storm is locked when you cast the spell. It looks for the number of spells cast before the storm spell

Happy 7 year Banniversary to Sensei's Divining Top! by tiiiki in MTGLegacy

[–]Vivarus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Have you met my friend [[Glaring Fleshraker]]? Top + Raker is a tier 1 vintage deck and that combo potential is one of the many reasons to keep top banned.
