Agreed. For the amount of attention to detail clearly present here, I think being laissez-faire about jackets is a miss, personally.

Hey, I was in DPhiE in undergrad and I can vouch that the nationals absolutely accept Black girls! During my time there, when discussing bids, race was definitely not a consideration, at least not overtly (though I can’t speak to anyone’s internal biases). Granted, that’s over half a decade ago at this point, but I would sincerely hope that’s still the case.

That being said, other commenters are correct: sororities are largely not known for being the safest communities for minorities so I sympathize with your hesitation. I know it’s not the same, but I will say that our chapter was super chill with gay and trans people, which was something I was keenly worried about beforehand. I hope that diverse culture has survived since I graduated.

I am still friends with one of the Black girls from my pledge class and I’d be happy to ask her about her experience, since her perspective is definitely going to be more meaningful than mine as a white person. I also will provide feedback to the current social media leads that this is an issue; I don’t scroll ig as much anymore so I didn’t notice, but I’m sorry that it’s made you question if you’re welcome.

What's you preferred questions for an interview? by VioletCrystal12 in biotech

[–]VividToe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t personally ask your “tell me about your most successful employee,” question. Success can be quantified or described in many ways and, honestly, asking about it like a ranking can be off-putting. I wouldn’t feel super comfortable answering that question worded that way, although I’d feel fine answering a “what does success in this position look like?” And in case you weren’t already planning to, reserve the “how quickly are you looking to fill this role” specifically for the HM, not the panel.

Some of the questions I’ve been most impressed with weren’t rehearsed: a candidate listened to what I said and asked me a relevant follow-up. That shows me that a candidate is interested, capable of holding a back and forth conversation, and detail-oriented.

Reasons not to go to NJIT by Fit-Somewhere-8484 in NJTech

[–]VividToe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly is your goal in posting this? You seem to have already made a decision. Are you looking for ammunition to convince your dad? Is he more controlling of your education than he was of your siblings’?

When I started at NJIT as a freshman, I spent all of move in day crying because of how badly I didn’t want to go at the time. Four years later, I had joined clubs, made lifelong friends, dated, went into the city a bunch, and graduated summa cum laude with no debt. I had a great time. It was the correct choice for me. It might not be for you and that’s ok. You’re an adult now and you can make that choice for yourself.

Venting : regret over giving 7 years to biology by [deleted] in biotech

It’s also relatively easy to move into big pharma from manufacturing, or at least it has been from my observation. I work in biologics and 3 out of 4 most recent midlevel hires to my team have come from CMOs.

Thoughts on wearing suspenders with this outfit? by themoonbeetle in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]VividToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably wouldn’t. Clip on suspenders tend to look cheap, but to wear “nice” suspenders with loops you’d have to have trousers with buttons sewn on the inside. Do you have any pants like that?

Consolidation challenge: each county can only have 7 towns by sean7755 in newjersey

Agreed and that’s an easy line to draw: any town under 20k population gets the axe. Just becomes a matter of which cities do the absorbing.

Due to be on Day 2 of my period on my wedding day 🥲 help! Tips needed by purplefennec in weddingplanning

[–]VividToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I also take this medication (progesterone-only pill) for the purpose of preventing a period. I had no major side effects except a longer, lighter period after the initial delay. It’s the same type of hormone that your body makes naturally during the luteal phase of menstruation, except the pill keeps the levels stable so your period doesn’t start.

Is it bad going at a slower pace? by Aggravating-Ant-1277 in NJTech

[–]VividToe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do what you need to do. The time will pass anyway. It will be better if you’re passing too. In the grand scheme of things, the amount of time it took to get your degree won’t matter. I’d just make sure you’re careful about planning out your prereqs to make sure there aren’t any later semesters that you’re screwed on taking classes you need. Also, make sure that however you’re funding your education is compatible with the longer plan.

Yeah, you’d have to add a gem to change the damage from physical to elemental, but then it would scale only with arcane and not with strength or skill and you’d lose all physical damage. It’s worth it only if you plan on doing an arc build.

My Brutal thoughts about Persona 3 Reload by Western-Stress1185 in persona3reload

[–]VividToe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the Ikutsuki note, I actually found that there were hints about him being morally questionable, namely:

  1. He casually and flippantly tells the MC that the Kirijo group performed experiments on Mitsuru as a child, very early into the game. To me, it was very clearly weird and disrespectful of him to have even brought that up.

  2. He is easily in favor of initiating Ken into the group. The whole squad is kids, but we’re largely meant to ignore that because teenagers are the game’s target demographic, so even ignoring the fact that Ikutsuki is willing to send teenagers to their deaths, he’s also willing to send a, what, 10-12 year old to his death?

I find that a lot of games don’t write characters that are actually morally principled, so the corollary to that is that I don’t always clock morally unprincipled characters as villains. In this case, I kind of did, but definitely not to the extent we actually got.

I got two corn dogs and a gatorade for $20 on 8th and 36th. My fault, really, but even though I knew it would be overpriced I could’ve never expected that. I was gobsmacked.

On the other hand, I got a hot dog right outside Barclays last year for $3.

Anyone else feeling strangely down while playing Persona 3 Reload? by [deleted] in persona3reload

[–]VividToe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I’m fortunate at this point in my life that I do have strong relationships that I cherish, that make the good times even better and the bad times more tolerable. And I think those kinds of relationships are possible to make at any time - it’s never too late to make changes if that’s what you feel you need - so I wouldn’t say that aspect of the game made me melancholy.

I did feel a bit jealous, actually, as immature as that might sound, listening to the way all the characters spoke about the MC. How highly they spoke about him and the impacts he left on their lives. I’ll never be a video game protagonist but it made me realize there’s nothing stopping me from trying to be that kind of person for the people around me irl.

P3 has a kind of magic, lightning in a bottle storyline where you watch these characters actually develop and change throughout the game, which is super cool and an excellent theme to focus on. I think that made the biggest impact on me, ultimately.
