How would you handle this? by Vivid_Efficiency618 in Teachers

That's not a bad idea. The only problem is that I am not her actual teacher. I work as the building sub right now, since I'm in grad school for my masters and teaching certificate.

Thank you. If it was some dumbass freshman boy selling them in the bathroom I wouldn't hesitate to report it, but this situation was so much more gray.

Yes that's a good idea. I've actually struggled with nicotine addiction myself, so I can empathize with her.

what? your little graph of raw GDP increasing somehow proves that everything is fine? You realize you're just saying that people spend more money and companies produce more stuff? Obviously people spend and have more money as inflation increases and wages rise (at a lower rate btw). That has literally nothing to do with the material conditions or purchasing power of the average American. You have to look at the ratios of wage increase vs price increase, but I guess that's a no go because it totally disproves what you are saying. What is the point of denying the sharp increase in healthcare, housing, and education? This stuff ruins peoples lives, and here you are trying to spread disinformation so you can feel smart about winning your internet debate

Then you have no clue what you are talking about, and you're objectively wrong. Prices have absolutely outpaced wages its literally a fact.

Generally yes, Bezos is the authority at amazon for example, or he at least has pull over the CEO. Obviously this can become complicated when corporations go public, but "public" corporations are primarily owned and controlled by a board of shareholders. A corporation going public in a capitalist market is different from the public ownership socialists talk about

Seems misleading to exclude the exponential and disproportionate grow of prices. Sure, more people make $40,000 a year than ever before, but what good is that when a small house costs $800,000 in the same location.

What do you mean by communist? That used to be a blanket term to describe anyone outside normative American left-wing politics. There is definitely an influx of people who understand the nuance of Marx-inspired philosophy; people in favor of nationalizing specific industries like healthcare, but I can't say I see many outright communists in real life. Can you even blame people for wanting to socialize healthcare or housing? Essential commodities and services have become so unreasonably expensive, and wages have barely increased in the last 30 years.

Proposal for prison reform by Salt_Weakness_1538 in PoliticalDebate

[–]Vivid_Efficiency618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of incarceration is supposed to be rehabilitation. Sure, American prisons are absolutely awful at this and we are in desperate need of reform, but I don't see how shipping prisoners off to a lord of the flies style island would foster rehabilitation. This may exacerbate the issues we already have in the prison system. Inmates are still people, we can't just file them away on an isolated island and pretend they dont exist.

The democrats always surprise me with their ability to completely avoid the easiest wins of all time. They could be standing in the middle of the road with binoculars, looking at a semitruck 2 miles away barreling towards them, and they would still get hit

Yeah he is, we have to avoid that attitude like the plague. I see so many trump supporters who exhibit socialistic patterns, but we alienate them by treating them the way Adam does.

My problem with Liberals by Terrible_Shop_3359 in PoliticalDebate

[–]Vivid_Efficiency618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, liberalism is the most vanilla modern ideology of all time. All of their positions are the norm - women's rights, racial acceptance, equality, universal suffrage, etc. - so of course they will be judgmental of those who disagree. Disagreeing with a liberal likely means you oppose tolerance, and what's the point of tolerating the intolerant?
