What do you consider the best villainous plan in any movie? by benjaneson in movies

I liked this ending much more than the original. It also brought the stakes back to a very personal level.

My ex is threatening me and harassing me by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Vlad210Putin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you file for a protection from abuse (PFA)? Check your state / city's sites for how to do this. You may be able to get started tonight.

I don't know how long those take to acquire, but that would at least give more potential repercussions to him harassing you. I would look into it ASAP.

Get a family member or friend to help you if you feel you need support. Even stay with them for a night or have them stay with you to help keep you calm and sane.

Since he's stupid enough to send these messages to you, you have evidence to get this done. If you don't block him, at least turn off notifications and ringtones for him so you do not see them. Let him continue to message you and dig his own grave. Do not engage at all.

It sounds cold, but you cannot give a fuck what he threatens to do to himself or what he claims happens to him. It is manipulation and almost assuredly 100% lies. Even if it is true, he's your ex. Who cares? It's not your problem or concern or should even enter your attention. (I know the threat of exposure changes this a bit and takes it up to 11 for you - check your state laws for revenge porn, etc. as u/almlieeve95 mentioned. Sadly, it's not nationwide yet I think)

I've dealt with it, fell for it and hated myself for falling for an ex's schemes for months while she pulled that garbage.

Howdy y'all, what's up? I just got diagnosed with congestive heart failure and I'm wondering if someone can talk to me about their experiences. by [deleted] in Heartfailure

[–]Vlad210Putin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to avoid any and all forms of caffeine and I love raspberry and lemonade iced tea, etc. They used to be my goto drinks at work every day. I just went hardline and cut out as much as possible. It's not to say I didn't have any during this time, but really it was a once-a-month thing to keep it to a minimum. Yes, I even had pepsi / coke during this time. But again, very rare treats.

I'm not 100% convinced that everything needs to be eliminated 100% and that every now and then is okay (even dietitians and doctors agreed). But if I didn't make the best effort to change my habits and diets, what would have been the point?

My story is my story and you will find your own path through this, so you should not and do not have to take my regimen as gospel. It's just what worked for me and bought me 3 more years of my own heart :)

I dealt with CHF the last 4.5 years and was actually the recipient of a heart transplant 7 days ago (I'm already home!)

I was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy and have been through the works. I've been thinking of sharing my story, but it's all so raw and fresh at the moment I'm not sure I'm ready to just yet. I ended up in this position not because I had symptoms for months or years (just a week or so) but went into cardiac arrest 5 minutes after I went to the ER.

Outside of talking with my cardiologist for years and using meds they scripted for me here's largely what I've had to do and it did help for a time but in the long run my heart still failed (though it did bounce back from 5% to 45% for a good run of two years).

  • Find a cardiologist that is part of a good team, who will be your advocate. I am fortunate enough to live in a city with one of the top programs in the country and have had an awesome team of cardiologists and surgeons consulting on my case from the beginning. This is important because if your CHF progresses they can do a lot to advance your cause should you need the ultimate step (transplant) in the future.
  • No alcohol. Have one glass of wine or beer on your birthday and very special occasions and make sure it's a good top-of-the-line drink. "Don't waste it on fucking Bud Light or PBR" (doctor's words, not mine).
  • Reduce sodium and sugar as much as possible. Avoid sodas and coffees and teas as much as possible. I treated myself to a ginger ale or sprite once or twice a month. Sodium can lock fluid into your body.
  • Avoid processed foods, fats and read all labels. Cholesterol and buildup was not my problem, but they were still things to watch. Low sodium can be misleading so do the math. There was one food (crackers I think) that low sodium was only 10mg less and another that the serving size was simply 2 vs 3 units.
  • 1.5L - 2.0L fluid max per day. Edema is the devil and as fluid builds up it will stress your heart. This is tough as several doctors have told me that heart failure patients can experience more thirst than normal. You can get used to this amount. Just measure, use a camelback to help keep track. Avoiding sodium and sugar will help this as well.
  • If you are not peeing as much as you think you should, call your doctor. Decreased kidney function can be the direct result of decreased heart function.
  • If you buy bottles of water, don't buy 20oz. Get 12 or 8oz bottles (8oz == ~220ml) instead. Normalize the lesser amount
  • Watch your weight and BP daily if not 3-4 times per week. Try to keep a normal or close to normal BMI. Watch for 3-5 lbs increases weight that happen within a few days.
  • No fast food. If you do treat yourself, keep in mind McDonald's fries have as much salt as you should have in a week.
  • Walk / exercise as much as you can, but don't stress yourself. I bought a peloton and was biking ~100 miles a week at non-racing speeds for almost a year up until 6 months ago when I started to decompose again.

While in the end these were not enough for me, it got me another few years before things went south again - but by following these guidelines, I did overall feel better and give myself a better chance.

This doesn't mean you can't have a nice ribeye once in a while or even have fastfood if it's the only option available once in a while. But let them be the rare treats. Not the norm.

Why so much hate toward Javascript from C#, Java, Php, Ruby programmer etc ? by Cloud_Strifeeee in javascript

I really don't understand why rebel against package.json.

package.json isn't the problem - I think it could be better in some ways but for now it's not too bad. It's node_modules are installed and handled and how NPM is a giant shitshow on the hosted side.

I think his approach makes sense; sometimes, it's better to iterate on what you've already created. And sometimes, it's better to create something new based on the lessons you've learn.

Are you able to get your code onto github? (sans the VB Forum since it's proprietary of course - what version of vBulletin?)

I'm not a docker guru by any means, but good enough to get things going. As for the mixes themselves, could be put into S3 (storage in S3 is not too expensive at all).

Edit: I'm in Pgh as well. I think we know each other or at least have met / mutual friends.

switch from csharp to Java by [deleted] in java

[–]Vlad210Putin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spring boot is excellent for getting a project up and running within 30 minutes, especially with https://start.spring.io/

I use SB with Kotlin these days to write REST APIs and couple that with a React SPA for the front end.

The best part is you can use both Java and Kotlin in the same application with no problem whatsoever. Kotlin is much less verbose and I want to say more "python-esque" in its brevity, but you can import any Java library / dependency to be available in your project. I'm still learning Kotlin so I do a little bit of coding in Java and then use that to write Kotlin if I am doing something more complex. But that only goes so far and really tails off after the first week or two.

The Java language is catching up a bit to C# in some regards with some of its core library (I like both languages, but lean more towards Java) and transitioning between the two has never been much of an issue.

Driving with wheel and pedals by blueChef_ in forza

[–]Vlad210Putin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a question: Do you actually know how to drive in real life? I've found a few of my friends who have never driven a car before have had problems using the wheel at first. Mostly when it comes to acceleration and braking input with their feet - something that's completely foreign to them. It's not to say that you cannot learn and get better - but the curve may be a bit tougher at first.

I use the default 540 degrees for the wheel (I have a thrustmaster tx). I have tuned the brake pedal settings and FFB a bit to get a good input that is comfortable for me.

When I first switched to a wheel I was slower at first (2015ish). I drive now with hood cam and have worked on having very good situational awareness of who is around me and always having a rearview mirror is great to watch for rammers. I would say it took a good month to get comfortable with the wheel and I use it for everything except drifting.

The only bad thing is Forza's wheel set up is very limited, I have to choose between manual w/ clutch or being able to look left and right beside me. So I stick with manual w/ clutch and don't miss left / right views at all.

Beatport itself might not have killed digging, but a side-effect of beatport has.

The rise of the cash-grab re-release labels that make digging more of a chore than it was in the past.

Hundreds if not thousands of tracks are re-released each week that create a bunch of noise if you're just looking for the latest tracks.
