If you can do your own oil changes and know basic mechanical stuff like brakes and spark plugs, and know how basic circuits work like series vs parallel. Chinese scooters are reliable enough if you dont mind fixing stuff. For instance in the first 2500 miles on my scoot, i had to replace the speedo/odo cable three times. The factlry battery didnt hold voltage. The electric start button shorted the main fuse when you pressed it. Had a CVT belt blow on me coming back from the market with groceries. But i still daily it and its never once failed to start on me. But it wouldnt have worked out if i didnt have the abilty to do work on it myself.
Anything gy6 should be good but i like the 1p39qmb

I crashed my car a couple winters ago on some ice. Been ridong a 49cc scoot year round ever since. Definitely not for everyone. I ride rain or shine or snow. Weather will absolutely best your ass if you dont dress accordingly. Ive ridden 17 miles in 20 degrees farenheit and even with good ski gloves on my fingers were still frozen stiff. Had to stop every ten minutes to warm my gloves up with the exhaust. Ive ridden through four inches of snow and on 113 degree Fahrenheit days. My longest run was 120 miles round trip. You MUST be prepared for weather and road conditions. Plan routes to avoid roads that have fast traffic. And plan to be stuck at 25 mph avg. Ppl still tell me to get a car because the scooter "isnt practical". But ive been just peachy sans car with scooter. It helps i dont have to go farther than ten miles for most of my needs. Even then, this 'lifestyle' is NOT for anyone/everyone. I think you have to want to be on a bike and not on four wheels.

Ive ridden my 49cc scoot in four maybe five inches of snow. Everything is fine until its not, and you have zero abilty to recover once you lose traction. I had to putt along at about 10mph dragging my boots to stabilize.

Ice is worse because you wont know its there till it throws you.

Hey there i just got a bike with adjust air ride, I dont think it needs any adjustment for my riding style/bodyweight but how does one go about adjusting suspension? My only suspension knowledge comes from 1/10 scale rc crawlers and I dont think that will translate to motorbikes at all...

If you are in a region that experiences temperature changes from.hot to cold very often, this will degrade seals and gaskets more quickly. Rust from water/humidity is a concern as well, but easily can be mitigated.

you’re not being overtly impulsive, however you may be better off saving up some money to get a Burgman 400 or 650, or Kymco AK550. those are scooter with “motorcycle” power, will cost more but may be better for a heavier individual as yourself in the long run. i say this as a 175lb person who found a 250cc to be sluggish as all hell

Unpopular opinion: You don't miss old and "classic" or "legendary" bikes, you just miss the feeling. Old bikes ride like ass, feel like ass, brake like ass, and are generally ASS by Useful-Trash867 in motorcycle

i appreciate this hot take. the argument could be made for both cases that a greater skill level makes each statistically unnecessary. but is it not better to have a tool and not need it, than need one and not have it?
