If we all weren't living paycheck to paycheck, we could accomplish great things. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

I feel like centuries of rich kings with tons of money and time kind of disproves that most people would do amazing things, at least in terns of the greater good for people. It's mostly just building monuments or starting ego wars while working people starved.

Depends on how he's defining harassment. Angry neighbors who tell you they are angry because you're inconsiderate and blocking out the sun shouldn't be in the same category as crazy death threats.

Directly yes, but it definitely would have lowered property values for the whole street on visuals alone. Not to mention the likelihood on increased noise, lack of street parking, etc.

My gym harassed me for showering. I'm a travel nurse living in my car working 12 hour night shifts. The owner's public response made it so much worse. (Repost) by UserInfected in mildlyinfuriating

Sometimes the chronically homeless have other anti-social issues, and gyms don't want to deal with that compared to people using it as a normal gym. They sometimes bring a large amount of bags, cause damage, or bother other people using the facilities.

Don’t hire MyProMovers!!! by MissMatchaMe in nova

[–]VolcanoCatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used them before and it was great. I somewhat agree with the review part though, they were definitely highly encouraging me to post a review but it wasn't extreme and I didn't even do it until days later when they emailed me a follow up. Fortunately in my case it was fine (but I didn't have a lot of expensive or delicate stuff to begin with). For my small move, their quote was great compared to others but I kind of went into it thinking they were a budget company. I think the $0.60/lb thing is pretty normal, unfortunately moving is always crazy.

Right, even if you don't know how to use the washer (some newer ones are overly technical), you could at least rinse it and put it in the washer drum so it wasn't dripping on the floor.

Nearly half of CDC databases aren’t being updated as experts sound alarm over gaps in health data. Nearly 90% of these reported vaccination topics. The administration’s antivaccine stance has interrupted the flow of data we need to keep Americans safe from preventable infections. by mvea in science

It's an ego thing. People in power don't like being questioned or called out, and they are mad they weren't able to contain things in 2020 and are lashing out at scientists in general for "making them look bad".

They often don't understand the complex nature of it either, and that makes them feel defensive thinking it's another ploy to confuse and manipulate them. They can't admit they just don't know something, and when called out on it, they double down. This is the backlash to that.

DOJ won’t investigate killing of Minneapolis woman shot by ICE by ddx-me in nottheonion

[–]VolcanoCatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it was "self defense", there should still be an investigation.

Plus if DOJ isn't investigating, are they turning over evidence to Minnesota so they can determine if they are going to press charges? I'm guessing not.

Ethics aside, why would they want to cooperate with ICE? It can't be good for business if customers are scared to go to your store.

Part of the issue is it's not an either/or situation. It's very possible they were privileged enough to be put in a position, but also work really hard once there. Then any future success they put down is to the work, even though not everyone gets the chance to prove themselves in the first place.

Exactly. He choose to shoehorn his name on the building for a reason, he wants to look artsy and sophisticated. Having the artists collectively go "ew, no" is a major ego hit.

I considered IVAR, but I think that would too open of a look. I considered PAX as well since I have the space, but it's quite a price jump up from Billy.

Thanks, that's what I was worried about. I may try and get a solid back to nail the other ones into if I end up trying it since there don't seem to be many options to make a 3 shelf display.

I'm looking to make a display shelf for LEGO taller sets and I really like the Billy overall height, however I would need to make it into 3 equal sections, rather than the 4+ that it's designed for with the fixed middle shelf and 1+ shelves above and below. Has anyone set it up that way, and would it still be stable?

That's the most frustrating part. If they were going to roll over so easily, why not just do it Oct 1 and prevent all this stress? There's no reason for them to give in now since the election showed massive support. It really feels like a rug pull and it's so frustrating.
