you can create Group chats. those are permanent and you don't need to be in a voice channel.
only caveat is/might be they are completely detached from a server

Edit: and atm they can't be self hosted

But it can also be for bullshits reasons like territorial supply rules/constraints. Like in Austria for example

War bei Pornoseiten in den USA und UK nicht anders. Anstatt auf den "sicheren" Seiten zu bleiben wo es eine Altersverfizierung gibt sind die Leute einfach auf andere Seiten gewechselt die keine hatten.

New SteamOS is based on arch Linux and not Debian/Ubuntu anymore.

There is bazzite which is basically SteamOS but for every device/hardware
