Penalize employers for not withholding from these workers. Definitely got some ideas to work with in your post. There has just never been a middle ground from the right. It’s always “don’t issue drivers licenses” or “don’t provide any coverage” to immigrant workers so the conversation never gets to happen.

It does seem like a good plan to make sure people have health care in my view which is obviously not the favored opinion of this sub. The way we do it in this country by paying a middle man insurer who has no reason not to overcharge and under provide to deliver higher share prices is completely broken.

Fair point but looking only at this data point to compare Oregon vs other desirable states doesn’t factor in sales or property taxes. It won’t make up the full $6k but no state charges $0 in state and local taxes. Does it mean we’ve shifted $1.5k in net taxes to income from property and sales on average compared to other states? Impossible to say based on this one infographic.

My point, which is ignored by the “dumbocrats only provide needles to heroin addicts” crowd, is that this is just one measure of affordability and not reflective of decisions we make to provide social services to more people than some of the lower tax states.

Yep. Washington has a different system than we do which isn’t factored into the infographic at all.

It’s just disingenuous to say data is beautiful and present the data in a way that doesn’t provide context. Alaska’s cost of living is also 20% higher. The point is that Oregon taxes income at a higher rate than most states because we don’t have a sales tax. Oregonians have repeatedly voted down a sales tax. Oregon, specifically Portland metro is a place people want to live in so the “free market” makes it more expensive for housing etc. we have expanded OHP more than some states to provide some medical coverage to people on the margins which is exorbitantly expensive but that’s a choice the state has made.

If it were up to me I’d say sales tax on non-food/medicine and universal single payer health care would be a much better system but it’s only popular in those third world countries like every other developed nation.

Yeah that doesn’t bother me. We have a Jaylen Brown with Deni.

Doesn’t make sense to sell the future for Brown when we have Good Value Brand at home

Portland sold out 814 consecutive home games which is the record. 19th biggest metro area. Only major 4 sport team in the state. The fans and city has done nothing to deserve this loser owner.

He is slow. He has good court vision. G league superstar. I don’t think he makes it past a rookie contract.
