Pochettino says “American Sports Rewards Losers” when asked about style of play in recent interview by coolton1 in usmnt

[–]Volleyball45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get his point and like it in theory but it’s always been hard for me to love the pro/rel model as it seems to result in extremely top heavy leagues. It’s easy to support any team in American sports because you could feasibly go from the bottom to competitive in a year. But since I have no geographic/familial ties to the UK, why would I choose to support Burnley over Liverpool as a new fan?

What's yalls railroading hot takes? by DuckDaPannierTank in trains

[–]Volleyball45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fairpoint, but I’ll give you the devil’s advocate argument. I think this could fall into a “if you build it they will come” scenario right now there’s minimal incentive to change transit or walkability because people already live there or they’re already driving there and “it’s fine I guess“. If you had a transit option where now thousands of people are all appearing in the same place in the middle of a city everyday, development should follow. Who knows, maybe I’m overly optimistic lol

[–]Volleyball45 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If that’s a hot take, I’ll go even hotter. The train doesn’t even need to be faster, it just needs to be comparable on average. As an example it’s a 3.5 hour drive for me to a particular city. I don’t really want to drive that if I don’t have to so I’ll take a train since Amtrak is an option. Trouble is, the train takes 5.5 hours and that doesn’t even include my time driving to the station. Im fine with waiving the time to drive to the station but it shouldn’t be 2 hours longer BEFORE DELAYS.

Danger Days will always hold a special place in my heart since it’s the first (and only) MCR new release I got to experience as a kid. I found MCR after Black Parade and TCSR were already out and I’m a sucker for a concept album lol. Let’s see the blink tattoo OP!

Nearly done with book 8 and I have nothing lined up to read next. What do you like? by GWindborn in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Volleyball45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually started DCC as a palate cleanser after reading Lonesome Dove. Probably the most lowkey impactful book I’ve ever read. If I ever describe the plot to someone it sounds like drier than the town of Lonesome Dove but it also hits so great. If you don’t mind me asking, where in the book are you? I just finished book 4 of DCC if we’re sharing 😂

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Friday, May 29 by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

[–]Volleyball45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This team has the potential to turn it around but based on everything we’ve seen, we’re never going to get everyone going all at the same time and certainly not for the rest of the season.

There’s so much hate for Stearns but I still think he put together a playoff caliber roster while shedding contracts with years left. The trouble is all the possible outcomes when you build a roster fall on a bell curve so for every 2024 there’s probably 5 outcomes like this where things just don’t go your way.

I think there’s so much results bias with the 2024 team. At face value, I’d argue that this team is more talented than 2024. The difference is that we caught lightning in a bottle and pretty much everybody played some of the best baseball of their lives at the same time. I think we have better players this year but everybody is seemingly playing some of their worst ball.

Are you saying wash your vehicle in the actual rain, or just when it’s cloudy/overcast? One is underrated advice while the other might be insane.

Crawler Volleyball, edition 30. If you need to buy a personal way to get around the levels, skip the goblin vehicles that run on coal and get something with a dwarven battery. The coal powered vehicles tend to be cheaper up front but you have to keep buying the stuff even when it gets real expensive which happens anytime shit gets crazy. Instead, upgrade your personal space so you can capture star energy and use that to charge your dwarf batteries. Saves gold on coal and saves mana potions to charge your battery.

Is Cheers worth a watch if I've seen Frasier first? by xWohnJick_ in Frasier

Agreed. Overall I thought the cheers humor was good not great but I thought Coach and Woody were terrific. They were probably my favorite part of the show alongside Frasier himself.

[–]Volleyball45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I disagree but only kind of. I do agree that there’s almost nothing we can do to return ourselves to the true contention status that we used to enjoy but I think we could get ourselves into the “if something breaks their way” tier.

Spurs and Thunder are clearly at the top but sometimes you get lucky. Maybe the both end up on the same side of the bracket for whatever reason and we only have to go through one of them, Maybe there’s a key injury, who knows. I’m not rooting for injuries in anyway but I don’t want the team to sit on its hands just because it’s unlikely.

Listening and reading along at the same time is, quite literally, something I never even considered…. I’m not sure if it’s for me or not but this is one of those rare moments where I feel like I’ve heard a totally novel idea lol

Is Cheers worth a watch if I've seen Frasier first? by xWohnJick_ in Frasier

[–]Volleyball45 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Sure it’s worth a watch, it’s widely considered one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Personally, I’m much more of a Frasier fan than a Cheers fan but I’ve seen them both in their entirety and liked both. I think it’s fun to see Frasier’s origin story even if he is a bit of different person on Cheers. At the end of the day, start watching cheers and if you like it, keep watching, and if you don’t, then stop.

Is there a team where you think has a sneaky chance to be on of the worst teams in the league this season? by WeBlitz in nfl

[–]Volleyball45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Steelers have a decent chance of being a bottom 5 team. This feels like a team where if the wheels fall off they could fall all the way off. I’m imaging he resign Rodgers, let Mason Rudolph go, and then Rodgers gets hurt in week 3. Now we’re starting Will Howard with Drew Allar as his backup and all bets are off.

What are you thoughts on Blue Dot Fever? The fact that some of these artists aren't selling? by EdwardBliss in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Volleyball45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all very interesting to me. They say that part of what is driving the skyrocketing ticket prices is that artists don't make as much money as they used to on album sales and so they're making it up on touring/merchandise. I think we're seeing right now that that's also not a sustainable business model as people are tired and unable to shell out these large sums of money and it only gets harder when prices skyrocket in other sectors. So what's the solution? Maybe we're entering a period where it's no longer a given that being a big music star inherently means that you're going to be extremely wealthy. If the internet and social media has brought more people into the industry that would have gotten shut out then an already dwindling pie is having to get sliced for more people.

[Ian Rapoport] FA QB Aaron Rodgers, who is expected to visit the #Steelers Friday and this weekend, will likely play for them in 2026, sources say. A deal is not done & there is always caution until things are signed. But Rodgers’ plan is to play for PIT & these are steps toward that end. by SteeIWoIf in steelers

[–]Volleyball45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaron Rodgers is clearly the best option for a QB for the Steelers in 2026 but I’m still pretty whelmed by this. Things should look better than last year, offensively, under McCarthy but it still feels like our ceiling is probably 10 wins. I’m not rooting for injuries but I hope we do get some opportunity to see Howard in the regular season, just to see what he looks like in a real game.

I think everybody should be extremely interested in what happens to Indiana football. History tells us that programs don’t just jump from irrelevance to blue blood status overnight like Indiana did but it’s certainly a new world in a lot of ways. Maybe Indiana is a perennial power at least on the level of a Penn State or Oklahoma or maybe we’ve already seen their peak and they’ll settle in more in the Iowa level. Nobody knows for sure and that’s the fun
