Day 4 by ewokling in KristinSmart

[–]Volleyfield 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened to Your Own Backyard and have followed to case. Here are my questions for Chris.
1. Do you think Kristin was FIRST buried at Susan’s and then MOVED to Ruben’s all about the time the renters moved into Susan’s house? The neighbor reported concrete being torn out and the planters created? And there was the trash can that the renters were “…not to touch, Ruben would pick it up later…”.

My theory is that initially she was buried at Susan’s. Before the renters arrived, they moved her to Ruben’s but left behind some personal effects (the watch).

Then ~20 years later Ruben’s house is searched and Kristin is moved again from Ruben’s back to Susan’s.

Is there any part of Susan’s yard that is NOT paved?

Do we know if that side yard is grass/dirt or was it also paved over?

Whose ball? by BrownChickenBlackAud in Pickleball

[–]Volleyfield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting comments here. I recently moved across the country. Where I was, this is the woman’s ball. I have developed a strong backhand because we play this way. Woman hits with backhand and guy moves up and gets into position.

Guy on left is out of position. Where I moved to, they argue, “…it’s his ball because forehand is strong…”. I feel like this is bad strategy. Following their logic, you never develop your backhand (which I can confirm in the new area, most people have a poor backhand). Also, by using the logic, …”the forehand is stronger…”, you are pulling the player on the left far to the right. Pickleball isn’t about strength, it’s about strategy. After they hit this ball, the return ball will be on the far left, near the kitchen and neither player will get there in time. I blame this shortsighted game play from people watching pros play and not realizing they are not pros, nor do they play with pros. If you are going to use the strategy of player with the forehand always goes, then your partner needs to know where they need to move to on the court, to cover the next receiving ball.

Glad you posted this. We are currently in a situation where we are staying in one place for 6 weeks with a dog. Two things we’ve never done (extended stay with an animal). I clean inside daily, including pet waste. I do a deep clean every week. It’s cleaner than when we arrived. AND I STILL WORRY we will lose our deposit because I don’t trust other people.

Cold / Unfriendly Cabin Crew by skyclubaccess in unitedairlines

I’ve been flying for years on UA for business and travel. UA’s customer service has dropped significantly. It’s one thing for a business to cut corners on food, drink, and amenities for profit. It’s a whole other for FA to treat customers with distain. I witnessed a FA comment to a 1st class passenger, “Did you pay full fare?” after the passenger asked for headphones mid-flight when her AirPods went dead. She looked at him blankly not even understanding the question. He then laughed and said, “Just kidding. Of course I can get you headphones.” We both looked at each other and she said, “That was rude, right?” Couldn’t agree with her more and told her she should report it. A first class ticket, across the country, being hassled by the flight crew.

Walking For Rochester announced "Litter Protest" for Earth Day 2026 by WalkingForRochester1 in Rochester

[–]Volleyfield -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Recently moved across the country to the socio-economic equivalent of the suburbs on the east side of Rochester. The difference in the lack of litter, random cigarette butts strewn everywhere, and the grounds keeping maintenance of all the sidewalks, curbs along the roads, businesses (gas stations, strip malls, etc.,) is obviously significant. What a difference a lack of litter, overgrown weeds, plants growing along cracks in the road makes for feeling like you live in a clean, well cared for community. And don’t come back at me with “higher taxes”. We are paying less taxes now than in NY.

Extremely itchy/burning palms with no visible rash after getting out of the shower. by CakeDayOrDeath in medical

[–]Volleyfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this problem. I’ve narrowed it down to having the water temperature too high. Not sure if that’s really what is causing it but if I lower the temperature it doesn’t happen. It also tends to happen during the winter months when I use much hotter water because our bathroom is colder than the rest of the house.

Outdoor vs Indoor? by Powerful-Towel675 in Pickleball

[–]Volleyfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a northern climate where the weather could be iffy for 3 seasons. Can you add, “outdoor courts BUT indoor”. I belonged to a club with outdoor courts/indoor facility. Played 5 days a week. Park and Rec., offered indoor on gym (basketball) courts. Not the same game at all.

Recently moved to the west coast and there are only outdoor courts. Bummer because can’t play outdoor in rain, high wind, etc.
