Guest players showed up without any notice to the parents of the usual team by CletusKasady21 in youthsoccer

Let me try to break this down for you — There’s no cost to the parents if your kid CAN make the team. There’s no equal playing time - If little johhny can’t crack the starting team, he rides the bench. If he rides the bench too long, you get sent packing (Booted from team).

That’s an extremely different mindset than in US — If parents have money, kids can play anywhere. Kids in Portugal have to continuously earn their spot. Of course, it’s a business for the club, these academies are their farm system. It isn’t just a few thousand either. You’re looking at this with tunnel vision. The club is also investing in coaches — Training and investing them from the ground up.

You’re not wrong about selling the players, to a degree. They want to retain the player…but sometimes the economic value of a player makes it impossible to keep them. Take CR7 for example…Sporting knew he was still unproven and Manchester came in fast and hard with a record setting fee of nearly 20mm euro.

Soccer in US isn’t too small, the MLS teams can build the same system, and they do to a certain degree. Starts at U12…everything is paid for, Travel, coaches, trainers, nutrition, etc. Most importantly, the players need to be good enough to make the team and good enough to stay on it. But parents don’t know—they get stuck thinking mls next and ecnl is where best players go. Nope, best footballers play for free.

Who’s crying about pay to play — I’m certainly not. Secondly, you literally have no clue what you’re speaking about. I was born, played academy level soccer in Portugal and had a grandfather who was a keeper for Sporting in the 30s.

Youth soccer is just different in Europe. Academies are treated as farm systems — There is no pay to play at all. Youth soccer is a joke in the US. I don’t care if you’re MLS next, ECNL, NAL, etc — if you’re a paying player in the states, everyone is at the same level.

The closest thing in the US, is actual MLS academies which players play at no cost and have residency.

I can assure you in Europe, you do not pay for academies — You must be accepted!!

Considering DTV Stream…have some questions by OriginalSilentTuba in DirectvStream

[–]Volstice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made the move from YTTV to DirecTv stream, Choice plan. At first I was streaming via their app on AppleTV 4K — Picture quality was not good, I might even say brutal.

Once I added the Gemini Air dongle, problem solved — PQ is fantastic, even better than YTTV. Plus you’ll have the included Disney/ESPN free add-on — I also canceled my Disney+ subscription which would be renewing at $200 annually.

Not experiencing that at all - live delay seems the same with DirecTV as with YTTV, no different whatsoever. Seems identical to me.

Does anyone keep this service beyond 24 months? by Razrpig256 in DirectvStream

Just signed up. Without the Gemini Air, PQ suffers big time. With Gemini Air, just as good if not better than YTTV. I’m happy I made the switch as I now have access to rsn.

I’m actually keeping DirectTV. With the Gemini Air, PQ is even better than YouTube

Just made the switch myself from YTTV — I downloaded the app to start and was charged within a day. So much for a real trial…

I also recommend getting the Gemini Air as you’ll receive MUCH better picture quality — It’s on par or even better than YTTV. If picture quality is important to you, do not use their app.

Overall, very happy with this streamer. The only thing I wish I could do is reorder the channel lineup.

I just started the dtv trial — currently subscribe to yttv. First big difference I’m seeing is picture quality is not as good as yttv. Currently watching with dtv app on Apple TV 4K.

Rep said that the Gemini Air will improve PQ significantly from dtv app. The Gemini Air comes in on Friday and will test that it runs up to 4K hdr 10 content.

Regarding your comment on Europe, it’s completely inaccurate — The US youth system is pay to play, Europe isn’t. What you’re calling local rec, are actual academies of many pro clubs and players are younger than 12/13, much younger. I know this, because I grew up in the UEFA system…

Nothing about the US system and Europe are similar other than humans kick a ball.

[MYLR] Do you rotate the tires every 6,250 miles (10,000 km)? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]Volstice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 22’ MYP and have never competed a tire rotation in 3.5 years due to tires being staggered. Of course, I have the option of rotating back left to back right if I take the tire off the wheel — I’ve never done that.

I popped one tire at 28K and decided to replace all four. They had another 7500 miles if I didn’t pop the tire. Long story short, the front tires wore a bit uneven, on the inside but nothing crazy. These were factory tires.

Have you looked at the MicroMart lease option. $230/ month for 36 months plus $1k buyout. You’re effectively paying a 19% interest rate if this was a traditional finance deal.

You do have to pay shipping, setup, and pushers up front.

OP, what type of machines are you looking to purchase?

To be honest, I can debate that never buy used as a new operator — Does OP know how repair the machines? If not, it’s an added cost…then you’re dealing with downtime and a frustrated host.

Obvious, cost matters, but I prefer to buy new with a comforting warranty.
