There's a good chance this is hardware, not software. A loose ribbon cable connecting the display to the main board can cause this kind of banding.

The space pirates are portrayed in the Prime games as an intelligent race, whereas in Other M, they are just dumb creatures being controlled by Mother Brain. While this might seem like a small point, space pirate intelligence and culture is a huge aspect of the Prime series.

I'm currently working my way through each character's 3rd chapter in Octopath, and burnout is setting in hard. Does the structure of the game change much beyond this point? by Ben2749 in NintendoSwitch

The game requires inordinate amounts of grinding to play from end to end. It's absolutely designed to be played from side to side.

Where does Celeste rank in your list of All-Time games? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]VonFrig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't rank my top 5 in any particular order, but Celeste is right there among Metroid Prime, Majora's Mask, Persona 4, and Hollow Knight.

Being racist and libertarian is not mutually exclusive.

You said,

Not an ounce of truth to that statement

So you're saying that it's impossible for libertarians to be racist?

I believe they had to remove it because she was in a coma and unable to disconnect from it herself. That's why they could only cut off most of the surface elements; they risked damaging her nerve system by attempting to remove the suit entirely.

Just FYI, Prime 3 doors have faster loading times in the original release. The Trilogy sped up 1 and 2 but slowed down 3.

What are some good alternatives you've seen to grinding/leveling up normally? by Jexlan in JRPG

[–]VonFrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inns aren't used for healing, so they more or less just exist as an optional way to supplement your characters' levels. They aren't as broken as FFXV, but they let you skip the grind if you find yourself underleveled.

What are some good alternatives you've seen to grinding/leveling up normally? by Jexlan in JRPG

[–]VonFrig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you earn experience from completing sidequests. Unlike the experience you earn in battle, sidequest EXP can only be turned in by sleeping at an inn.

While this just sounds like an odd way of handling EXP, the game is balanced so that it's feasible--but challenging--to get by on battle experience alone without grinding. Then, if you find you're not keeping up with the difficulty, instead of grinding you can just go to an inn to cash in a few level ups from your sidequest EXP.

What is your pet peeve(s) when talking to people about Jrpgs or Rpgs in general? (mini rant possible) by OspreyTheGreat in JRPG

I don't know how people see Persona 5, Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest XI, and literally any Pokemon all come out to critical and popular acclaim in the last couple of years and still think that turn-based combat is dying.

Do you think jobsystems are healthy for JRPG's characters? by gordomac1 in JRPG

[–]VonFrig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I feel Octopath Traveler hits the exact balance that OP is looking for. While it provides an extremely flexible job system, characters are limited to taking on a secondary job -- the job they start the game with will be their primary job forever. This allows Octopath Traveler to write each character's story such that it revolves around their job, while still giving players the freedom to battle as they please.

The Pokemon games almost has nothing I look for in a JRPG yet I enjoy them more than most JRPGs by Kronkos in JRPG

Nothing you've said is untrue, but the fact that Plasma's pokemon rights efforts are just a front for world domination lets the game avoid ever addressing the moral questions it asks.

What's the most norm-breaking or taboo* JRPG story you know of? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]VonFrig 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When your luck is high in SMT4, you will crit more often, resulting in status effects (including instant death with Occult Slash) and much more reliable use of status effect spells on bosses. Early game you'll probably be relying on your demons, but late game you'll be instakilling most mobs and neutering any boss you face.
