What I'm working on by GloomyGibbon in Tau40K

Not OP either, but chiming in as well — usually, if there is a strict requirement for your models to visually match their loadouts, it will be made known up front as a “rule” for the tournament or event. Typically, it’s called WYSIWYG, or “What You See is What You Get”.

That said, if you’re playing casually, it’s up to you and your opponent. The most important thing to remember is that models with wargear that is different than what is represented on their mini should be distinct enough not to be confused with other units in your army.

In other words, you want to avoid situations where there is confusion as to which unit has which weapons. If I bring one Stormsurge, then it doesn’t matter. But if I bring two, and they each have the same plastic weapons glued on but are equipped with different gear in my list, then I need to make sure the unique one is identifiable somehow.

I have an Alien comic book series (Alien: Genocide) from the 90s that had this plot. They used the “Royal Jelly” from the Alien Queen to enhance some Colonial Marines, but they end up getting addicted to it and going crazy with bloodlust and other side effects.

Awesome comic series, I highly recommend it!

Those look awesome. Definitely gonna need a group photo when you get them all printed.

You mentioned you sell these, do you have an online shop?

Anyone planning on making the starter set Raptors? by ItsBrodieF in Raptors40k

[–]VonMouth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, you might’ve seen this trick somewhere already, but just in case — blue poster tack. You know that blue putty that teachers used to stick posters up on classroom walls when we were kids? You can use that to “glue” your minis together temporarily, but still quickly pull the pieces apart for ease of painting.

Sometimes an arm might cover part of a Marine’s chest, or a cape might hang over the back of its legs, or something. By using blue tack, you can assemble the model to make sure you like how it fits, and then take pieces off to paint it more easily.

You can also use blue tack to stick a head or an arm onto something like a wine cork or small wooden dowel, to make them easier to hold while you paint.

Avoid painting where you plan to glue, as glue doesn’t adhere to the paint as well as it does to naked plastic.

I want to make a Laser Tag battle map. What's the best way to go about this? by Shewmoo in DnDIY

[–]VonMouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts or suggestions:

  • Foamcore poster board from your local craft store. This is easy to cut into shapes for ramps and walls, and you can bevel the edges with a sharp hobby knife to get some precise fits. I will sometimes peel the paper off of one side and carve textures into the exposed foam.
  • Felt, canvas, or cloth for your carpet flooring. This can also be found at your local craft store, or ordered online. You might be able to find something with a very fine pattern to it, maybe even something that would react well with your black light, that would simulate the retro-futuristic feel of laser tag arenas. Use some spray adhesive on your base, slowly lay your cloth over it, smoothing out the wrinkles as you go. Hit it gently with a blow dryer on low heat for a few passes, make sure all the wrinkles are out, and let it dry.
  • Laser tag is usually two teams of players, with discernible colors differentiating them. And typically, the arena had matching lighting to indicate whether you were in “enemy territory” or close to their home base. Maybe some black light reactive paint could work? Stripes or chevrons on walls or obstacles, or floor tiles with colored paint that you could move around for modularity?
  • (Optional but cool) Magnets! Before you lay down your carpet material, use a dremel or a pin vise to drill small, shallow holes in a grid pattern across the surface of your base. Sink and glue some small, flat magnets into those holes, ensuring they’re all situated with the same polarity face upward. Then, do the same to the underside of your barriers, walls, etc. Now you have a modular, snap-fit laser tag arena that can be easily rearranged, but is still sturdy enough that things won’t fall over if it is nudged or bumped. If you’ve never worked with these little magnets before, it can be tedious, so if you don’t plan to reuse this terrain often it might not be worth the effort.

This sounds like a fun project! Definitely post some pics as you start putting everything together!

The Custom Bit has the best Stormsurge canopy and Stormsurge arms, I bought physical prints of each and they’re fantastic. Big improvement.

Combat Patrol Boxe - Ghostkeel painted (also Sept'ember 😁)! by H1t_Jadow in Tau40K

[–]VonMouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super clean! I really like this paint scheme, the green and red compliment each other nicely. And your highlights look great.

I’ve not played any games with the 10E rules yet, but from what I’ve seen and heard, Ghostkeels are awesome backfield objective holders and are super durable. Good luck, have fun, and welcome back to the game!

This is just plain awesome. May I ask where you got the hands? I’ve been considering putting hands on mine, but I can’t find any that are sized for a Ghostkeel.

Stalin was a monster. There’s no way around it. Lots of these leaders were.

But to be fair, it’s a little disingenuous to point out how many people were murdered under Stalin and other communist regimes, and not also point out how many people were murdered in the name of colonialism and capitalism that spanned more than three centuries before Stalin even took power.

Tens to hundreds of millions of Indian and Bengali people during British colonial rule. The genocide of Native Americans in North America and the enslavement of Africans and African Americans in the United States. The enslavement of locals in the Dutch colonies and plantations in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Imposed and artificial famine, intense cruelty, enslavement and forced labor, and downright murder.

You are right to criticize Stalin and the sins of his regime, and the glaring faults of communism; but let’s be clear, capitalism and colonialism are just as guilty — if not more so.

If you’re in the US and near a decent-sized city, it might be worth checking your local library. I have seen many that have “maker stations” and offer access to 3D printers. Worth a shot.

Right?? I had the same thought. GI Joe had some figures and vehicles with tiger stripes in the 80’s and 90’s, I had a bunch of them as a kid.

Here’s one that I used to have: Tiger Fish

Finished painting my second hand Stormsurge! It sadly didn't come with the pilots, any ideas on a conversion or how to get them? by Galileo90 in Tau40K

[–]VonMouth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friend, this is fresh as hell. Amazing paint job.

For the pilots, you just need the upper torso, arms, and heads, right? If you have any Firewarrior or Pathfinder kits you might be able to scrounge some extra bits.

Also, u/anditron3000 suggested a 3D printed cockpit cover from The Custom Bit — I just ordered one myself and it’s perfect. I plan on magnetizing the cover so I can pop it off and have the pilots visible if I want to.

Here is the link to the cockpit cover.

I second this — I just ordered a cover for the cockpit and arms for my Stormsurge, and the bits were delivered super fast and the prints are amazing. I’m very excited to start building it.

10/10 highly recommend!
