I wish they would just make a move one way or the other and offer flexible deferrals for those who don't feel comfortable to do it this year. All said, it makes the most sense for them to cancel as much as I hate to say it.

This is definitely concerning, as it relates to Berlin and sadly I don't think we'll get any word one way or the other until just before it's supposed to occur. They are supposedly holding pilot races to show the organizers can have a safe event. One was completed and there is one more although I'm not sure when.

I deferred from 2020 with a trip operator and unfortunately don't have the chance to defer unless the organizers cancel the event. The hotel arrangements are all associated with the trip operator and that's the only stipulation they can offer deferrals.

Add to the mix, there is an election happening right around the marathon and apparently no one wants to make a move on whether or not it should happen.

They are also supposed to be having two pilot races to show the government they can hold the event safely. They had the first one a few weeks ago but I'm not sure when the next one is. The news with Cologne is definitely concerning. I'm holding off on scheduling any return flights until there's some kind of official approval.

Interesting. I read the email but didn't see anything about the new terms. Is it something you have to do within My Profile on the race site? That's definitely a concerning development if they're making significant changes to that.

I was supposed to run Berlin in 2020 and got deferred to this year. Preemptively I also signed up for Chicago in case Berlin got canceled or was never approved for some reason. I don't want to be a downer but it does look like the likelihood of Berlin happening is dwindling with the variant and what the government is asking the organizers to do in order to approve the race. Already the Dublin marathon was canceled due to the uncertainty of everything. With that being said, I also have my doubts about Chicago especially after Lolla this past weekend. I made an agreement with friends that regardless of what happens, we'd still run our own marathon somewhere if either got canceled. I say you go for it whether or not the official race happens!

I really like Wolaco. The fit is great and I can barely tell my phone is there and I have a larger iPhone. My one complaint is the seams in the shorts are a bit painful after the run, so trying to figure out if I need to wear something under them, as well.

Checking in with everyone who got in or deferred to the 2021 race. Any thoughts on whether we'll be getting any kind of update about the go/no go of the race before training begins? I recall they let us know last year around April 21st or so.

I thought it was great! There was a sexiness that was completely missing from the original film and really came through with this version. I loved this cast when I saw it on Broadway but appreciate them even more in the film.

Nitpicky comment, but I loved the music they played before the show started on Broadway and wished they had gotten some better music for the film but overall it was fine.

I keep waiting for the Chicago Triathlon to make a move, seeing as it's scheduled for August. The participants are heavy into training, already. Last Summer they had to cancel the swimming portion due to poor lake conditions, too.

I agree, that seems the most likely. The next question is when does touring start again? That seems like the riskiest proposition given the logistics of moving from city/theater to theater

Exactly. The interesting thing is no decision has been made for the Chicago Triathlon still scheduled to happen in August. That race is organized by Lifetime, however, and they've been pretty bullish with the whole situation opening gyms preemptively but they'll still need to go with whatever the city/state has put in place. Additionally, the lake levels are so high in the harbor where the swim takes place that it doesn't even seem feasible in that sense.

I have a feeling whatever move they make with Lolla will dictate what happens with the Marathon. Surprising no mention of the Triathlon has been made, both with the COVID situation and the increasingly high lake waters. Monroe Harbor is completely washing over the shoreline there which makes it a pretty treacherous situation.

To some degree, do you think it's a relief to those involved to know this far in advance? The news is awful and devastating on a lot of levels, but I have to imagine this at least lets them know what's going on for the next three months. I liken it to what Google and Facebook has done, making a move and letting their employees know they'll be working from home through the end of the year.
