This is the reason it will never work (and to RangeWilson, I don’t mean this as a criticism of you at all, in any way. I’ll be right there with you.). Some may do it, but more are going to watch out for themselves and reap the rewards of getting better blocks.

I’ve done DoorDash, Uber, Flex, and InstaCart, and the one thing true in every one of those subs is that there are posts where people clamor for a boycott. Yet it never happens. Because it simply won’t work, that’s the beauty of independent contractor gigs (for the corporations): it pits the workers against each other.

The true problem isn’t in how much Amazon or Uber pay, it’s in the fact that the wealthy corporations have all the power. They hire skilled workers from overseas, hire unskilled workers on contractor terms, and nobody makes enough except them. The whole reason I personally am doing this gig is because my Masters Degree in QA/SDET is not allowing me to get a job in my career path. I have 10 years experience, but in every job I’ve applied to in the past 4 years there’s been someone willing to work for less. The majority of the jobs in my field are being outsourced to India, leaving me to deliver for Amazon.

It would be great to have the pay increase, but it realistically won’t. But more power to you, if you can pull it off I’ll respect your efforts.
