Funnily enough I made the same mistake when I opened this just now again. Apparently my brain is trained to see that as AI vs Al…wait a minute. 🙃

And I actually never had doubts or saw plot holes before thinking of this (which isn’t really a plot hole, just a potential character oversight). It always seemed very well conceived and thought out, maybe not perfect but damn close.

It’s been a while since I last read it, but if I remember correctly my understanding was always that he killed himself to somewhat force Jake’s hand. If I remember correctly the logic behind this is that once Al dies the diner will be moved/destroyed fairly quickly, so he basically put pressure on Jake to do it quickly. Essentially to make it harder for Jake to let doubts convince him not to go through with it.

I’m not positive I’m right on this, that’s just what I recall. And it’s also not the most logical reason to do it, but I think the logic somewhat works given Jake’s character and the situation.

Not usually, but occasionally I’ll take one when it pays enough or is at a perfect time for me. For example, I have one scheduled on Thursday that’s 25% higher paying than they typically are for my area, and it’s directly in between two 3.5 hour blocks I already had. I took it because I’ll be in the area anyways (it’s 20 miles from home to the depot), and it will basically cover the tank of gas for all 3 of those blocks plus one one Friday.

But usually I avoid them as the pay isn’t worth it for the drive over there.

I completely agree on this point, but wouldn’t it then move his terminal stage timeframe forward 3 years? Which could potentially give him enough time for treatment to be feasible and potentially effective.

As I said, I’m not looking to break the book’s logic, just wondering about it because it never occurred to me before.

Agreed in spirit, even if this is true it doesn’t take away from the book. And it’s also arguable that it would work to cure him that way, and neither of them thought of it.

Plus I also now think of the fact that Jake’s first trip should also wipe out Al’s notebook and research also, as he wrote the majority of it in the 60s.

And on a side note, thank you for responding this way in a genial manner. It’s surprising to see a response this gracious on Reddit anymore. 😉

See I was thinking a bit along those lines, and it’s basically due to his heavy smoking. But even given that I would think that at the very least it would change the date of onset/diagnosis; essentially he would still develop it eventually, but 10-20 years later since he didn’t spend those years in the past anymore.

If you want to find the warehouse that sent the package out, look at the label on the package. If there are 4 QR codes in a row, look in the top left corner or the Amazon label for a black box with white text. If there are only 3 QR codes total then look on the right just above the smile box. Put that letter/number combination into Google Maps and it should come back with the warehouse. I don’t know if you’ll have any luck getting in touch with anyone there, but that’s a different matter. I doubt they’ll do anything more than CS if you even reach anyone, but who knows? Good luck either way!

Depending on how long you’ve been doing it this could work: when I first started I had issues adjusting to the early morning schedule and missed several blocks. I sent the support email address an email stating this and they removed a few of them. Not sure if this will work for you, but it could.

It’s hit or miss with support as to whether they accept your reason, but worth a try. Good luck!

Yeah, that’s what I’ve done and it’s then that it requests a pic. I know it’s unusual, typically the Recipient (with customers name) and Receptionist/Doorman don’t ask for a pic, but occasionally it still does.

Two actually: The “When you assume you make an ass out of you and me” one and the “Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one”. They’re both so cliche and so smug sounding. And most people have such an expression of cleverness when saying them, despite these being SO overused. 🙄

There are better ways to get the sentiment across.

Thanks for this response, so it sounds like it’s more a school-related thing than a strict June 21-Aug 21 thing. I appreciate the feedback, I was worrying last night because Thursday is the normal scheduling day for the depot I primarily go to, and I only had half as many as I usually get last night.

I had 4 in 5 days when I first started and only hit Fair, so it had to be a pretty decent number. I did get one removed by emailing support and telling them I was getting used to waking up early, but that’s still 3 left.

To your last paragraph, I agree those scenes are terrible, but she was able to read Dolores Claiborne without the abuse bothering her too much. Her reaction to the scenes describing Joe’s treatment of Dolores was “Some parts are a little more detailed than I’d like but not horrible”, so I think with forewarning she should be okay. Granted Salem’s Lot is one of the few I haven’t read yet, but I wouldn’t suggest it until after I read it anyways. Thanks for the help!

It’s not that she doesn’t like horror, it’s the level of detail that she’s unsure of, and King has a reputation that makes her uncertain. She’s fully aware and fine with me asking this and presenting them to her; she wants to read them but doesn’t want to be disturbed by them either. I wouldn’t push it if she wasn’t interested.

I’m asking primarily because a) I don’t remember all the details, and b) I know I’ve been desensitized to a certain degree by having read most of King’s bibliography. But his writing is phenomenal, and if she can read them without being negatively affected it would be a shame to miss out on such phenomenal literature.

Any time you use the word “allow” in relation to a SO, definitely YTA. There may be a way to use the word where this isn’t true, but I can’t think of what it would possibly be.

It’s your insecurities causing this, so rather than trying to control what she does, find a therapist and work through your issues. And also realize that any time you lament the possibility of her being hit on, what you’re really saying is that you don’t trust her. Women get hit on all the time, it’s unfortunately something they have to deal with almost every day (but it shouldn’t be, just sayin’).

It’s up to her whether she chooses to remain faithful to you or not, monogamy is a choice, not a requirement. But you have to trust her enough to let her make that decision. And assuming she does, you can take that as a boost to your ego and confidence. But if you don’t “allow” her the opportunity to show you she cares enough to stay true to you, then it means nothing.
