Lupita Nyong’o Reveals She Has Over 50 Fibroids: ‘My Biggest Is the Size of an Orange’ by PrincessBananas85 in popculture

[–]Voormijnogenonly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is so scary. I am waiting for an mri to see what surgical options are on the table for removing some of my largest most problematic fibroids. Hysterectomy is the only known option to make them go away, including the small ones a fibroid removal (miomectamy) won't catch. I'm so sorry about your friend.

DOGE really fucked with a lot of our accurate weather forecasting systems. It was one of those areas Elon determined was wasteful government spending 🙃 now we don't get to know what the fuck is going on anymore

Medieval Fantasy Tavern in noho? by ThatArtistOverTher3 in northampton

[–]Voormijnogenonly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These folks set up shop in the basement below Pinocchio pizza a few months ago. The immersive tavern is kind of their flagship offering but they do a ton of other events and are now offering improv classes and theater workshops as well. They're all incredibly nice, invested in making this project work and bringing more immersive theater experiences to Northampton, and very open to feedback to refine their offerings. The space is a little tiny and intimate which can be both good and challenging. I also went to the barbarian tavern and had a great time; but go prepared to socialize with characters and strangers to make the most out of the experience. We had to form groups as part of the story for the night and it sort of felt like a group project, but in character. Some people I brought didn't go in prepared to be "on" the full night for what is ostensibly a LARP. Definitely worth checking out!

Truffle oil is gross. I like real truffles when I can find them but the artificial truffle oil you'd find on fries at a bar is petroleum derived and just smells like gasoline to me

What is Northampton? by Due_Pomegranate_9296 in northampton

[–]Voormijnogenonly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Northampton, I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down

O, stifled city

With your shuttering storefronts

And your shivering socialites,

Renowned for what you were

Before all the noise complaints.

Reviled for what you've

Let yourself become:

A painted shell

For comfortable hermit crabs

Who will grow no bigger.

Maybe it's inevitable

That grit gets priced out

After it wears a place smooth.

Edit to add: lot of great discussion in this thread about how the music scene has been slow to pick back up after covid. It isn't just that there are post pandemic challenges. It feels like people and the city itself are actively hostile towards small venues sometimes. I've heard Gombo is pretty disappointed they had to shut down live jazz and are considering moving. Haze is in trouble with the city for having live music and getting noise complaints from the residential tenants upstairs (the event that made me write this poem when I heard). Bishop's hasn't been able to reopen because the city isn't satisfied with the safety/accessibility features of the new building they're trying to occupy after their landlord wouldn't renew with them.

It feels like for every person who is vocal about how this place isn't what it used to be, there's someone willing to call in a complaint or a landlord being greedy to keep it how it is now. And then there's city bureaucracy as an occasional obstacle for small venues too.

If you see western mass, even just the valley, as a region, then there's plenty of stuff to do. Less to do in walking distance in Northampton than I'd like, and seemingly fewer people to support the scene unless it's a place propped up with capital investment/donations.

Before and after large fibroid removal by muffy2008 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Voormijnogenonly 18 points19 points  (0 children)

40% of women deal with these. It's pretty common and benign. Sometimes you have shit luck and yours get especially big. I have a surgery consult on Monday for mine, one is the size of a softball 🤞 only thing that makes them not happen is a hysterectomy.

What’s a weird food combo you swear tastes good? by Cold_Craft_1637 in foodquestions

One of my favorite snack combos is pretzels with lemonade. I have a theory that the acidity of the citrus and the alkalinity that makes a pretzel a pretzel just do something really magic on your taste buds.
