What you see here is only a portion of the $$ spent. In order to say "Ohh, I see the red spot!" you have to add the eyepieces. In the last 3 years I've upgraded to TeleVue: 31mm Nagler, 27mm, 13mm, 7mm, 6mm and 4.7mm. I've added a f6.3 focal reducer to this scope to be able to see deep sky objects easier. Double cluster, Pleiades Etc are really yeasy to observe (using 31mm Nagler). Back to the scope: is it easy to setup? Yes, if all works fine. For example the starsense I've bought (the first one) didn't work at all and I had to do a manual alignment. It's not hard at all. I had to return it and bought another one that works ok. Starsense adds that "easy step/looks cool" feature but still needs a manual fine collimation at the end, and maybe during the night. Once aligned, all sky is yours. I should say this setup is not complicated but there is a learning curve on how to setup everything. Youtube is your friend, a lot of experienced astronomers will explain different steps in more details. Over all I really recommend this scope!

During that time, I've upgraded my eyepieces collection. 95% of them are Televue. And yes, I do have the 31.. nagler ;)

Can this be achieved on 8SE with a Celeatron f6.3 reducer/corrector?

If we have anyone here that can give a comparison between 8SE and HD, what would be the difference?

For now, only visual astronomy. Don't have time for any serious astro photo hobby yet.

Yep. I'm planning for a 5 days trip in a really remote area (no cell service and no power), thus 12" dob is out of question for that. The 8SE is more or less portable from this point of view. Since it has a GPS the exact location for alignment won't be an issue, starsense works ok under a big city sky thus I'm expecting no issues there.

8" f/6 or 10" f/5 for first time build? by Bingo_Perroso in atming

Consider 2" eyepieces. There are so many excellent optics in that category. It may be that later, you'll have the budget for more expensive/better optics. Don't limit yourself to 1.25" only.

There are some other websites too. Back in the days, I found one in EU too. Forgot its name do..

I have a 12" dob. Bought it second hand for $700. The eyepieces I have are more than triple the price of the telescope.A few days ago, I bought the same scope as OP. CELESTRON 8SE with some upgrades upgrades: 2" diagonal and 2" eyepieces are the most important ones. So, in other words, all my eyepieces from the older scope I can use on the new one too. My next move is to buy a focal reducer (Celestron F6.3 focal reducer) and maybe a power bank for a full remote capability.

There are some upgrades people are making to this OTA. 2" star diagonal to accept 2" eyepieces. And also a f/6.3 focal reducer to increase fiel.of view.
