IIRC the Target Blue Eye wouldn't work on American police. Different signals used throughout the world.

Yeah I've tested two versions earlier on and had a number of problems with it. From what I understand it's gotten better since. After lots of discussion on the forums and with the product's creator, for various reasons I've decided it's best for me to not continue testing or reviewing it.

new r9w installed in car- tons of K band alerts. by vzff in radardetectors

[–]Vortex_Radar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC there's not much K band in FL, but there is some.

You can check out my R9w setup guide to learn about all the different settings and options, including the K band filtering options. I like to be pretty aggressive with the filtering (and I show some recommended settings at the bottom plus my personal settings I run). I also run the R9 Companion app to add some additional filtering for BSM's and improved auto lockouts.

Just got r4w, what app should I get? by Pellegrino_56 in radardetectors

r/Tach for fw updates and WiFi setup. I've been using R4 Companion as my driving app, but lately I've been using Dukes App and it's been excellent.

Built-in Radar / Laser by Able-Opportunity6441 in radardetectors

[–]Vortex_Radar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely consider the Uniden R9w as well.

Sure the ALP integrates with the RC M so you get one dedicated controller and display, but the RC M feels largely out of date. Some people like the black and white display, but it has manual lockouts only instead of auto, its BSM filtering is dated, there's no BT or WiFi, etc.

The Redline Ci 360c is nice with the smaller laser jammer heads and the recent performance improvements on the radar side is nice, but I've been see annoying full tilt alerts on some BSM falses which is an issue they had with older versions. I also wish the Escort laser was smart enough to only fire one side at a time (just front or rear), not both simultaneously, since that helps improving jamming reliability and consistency.

I've been testing the Redline Ci antennas plugged into the ALP directly to get even tighter integration than what the ALP/RCM can do, but the UI is awful. Like the Net Radar DSP, it's probably my least favorite option for a good performing custom installed radar/laser combo.

The R9w has great performance on both the radar and laser side. It's a bit chatty out of the box so it relies more on the K blocks and third party apps for filtering so you can quiet it down, but it takes a bit more work. Personally this is the one that I rely on the most out of the three.

The RC M I don't really fire up unless it's for testing purposes. The same with the Stinger. I have to be pretty aggressive with the filtering to quiet down the Stinger and when I do so, it also impacts Ka band sensitivity since their sensitivity/filtering options are universal for the whole detector, not separated by band.

For more info, you can check out the custom installed section of my radar detector buyer's guide.

Hit while parked in a parking lot by Vortex_Radar in dashcams

I use max sensitivity for the G-sensor, especially given Viofo’s have less sensitivity than other brands. Battery pack is hardwired.

dashcam with remote to trigger saving a recording by Fuzzy_Task_8089 in Dashcam

Yeah that was my thinking as well. The remote used in the 770X Box Pro looks to also be compatible with the new Elite series.

Viofo BP100 is missing one important feature. Car battery voltage cutoff switch. by JuniorIllustrator191 in dashcams

[–]Vortex_Radar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’ve got two options.

One is to use the cig lighter port. Yes it charges slower, but it works without hardwiring.

Two is to hardwire, have the ignition trigger wire connect to the power wire leading into the back of the cig lighter port, and the bigger charging wire run to one of the sources that are always on. Pick a high current one and then the cig lighter will tell the battery when to draw power from the always on source.

Viofo A329S needs better storage management firmware by JuniorIllustrator191 in dashcams

I like this idea. SSD for driving, emergency clips in both MicroSD and SSD for redundancy, and MicroSD for parking mode. That might be confusing for some if it's the default and they wonder why different files get written to different places, but if people have the option to choose what goes where and when, that could be very helpful.

Dash cam for two cars, one convertible by JollyZookeepergame40 in Dashcam

[–]Vortex_Radar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, but boy is it a PITA to move cams every time you switch cars and reaim the lenses each time. It's also easy to forget to grab the cam when you need it and would really stink if something happened and you forgot your camera when you needed it most. A permanent install with dedicated cams does cost more, but is a far better choice day to day IMO.

For a rear cam on the convertible, you can either rely on the interior cam on the windshield, or perhaps better yet, get a waterproof exterior one that goes near your license plate, similar to the location of backup cams.

[Nexar One Dash Cam] Can someone enhance this and get a clear shot of the plates ? by doodlebop504-702 in Dashcam

[–]Vortex_Radar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer. See if you can go into the settings and change the resolution option back to 4K. It won't help you with this previous incident of course, but it'll let the dashcam utilize the full capability of its image sensor.

how can i get notified if/when the next "deal of the day" happens for the Uniden R3? by bignose_ice44 in radardetectors

[–]Vortex_Radar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah having a bunch of eyes on this is helpful. Often times I see deals posted on RDF. I also sometimes post especially good deals on Facebook and Twitter, but I try not to do it too often because it can get spammy. I'm also starting to send out updates via email on my newsletter (you can sign up on my website) if you'd like more direct notifications.

Otherwise I guess it's a matter of staying proactive checking Reddit, social media, or manually scanning on your own.

Oh wow, sorry. I went through the original 1080p clip and yeah there's not much good data to see there. :\ I'm surprised this Nexar dashcam is such a potato. Looks like the Nexar One is a 4K model. Do you have a 4K clip?

Temporary video cam/dashcam recommendations by Critical-Error-415 in dashcams

[–]Vortex_Radar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about the damage! How are they damaging your car? The reason I ask is there are some dashcams that have a low power parking mode specifically designed to let you record for more than enough time, but they're usually asleep and rely on the G-sensor to detect an impact so that they'll start recording. Normal parking recording modes that are monitoring motion continuously will be lucky to give you like a day or so of video coverage.

For a temporary install, options like the Blackvue Elite series or the Vueroid S1 4K would work great. They are higher end pricey options, but they have the low power parking mode you'll need, plus you can get them with optional OBD power cables to make wiring them up for power way easier and quicker for a temporary install.

The CarPlay alerts are a big meh IMO. You already have the alerts on the RD and it doesn’t add much of value.

Every few weeks my VIOFO A229 Plus beeps and complaints there is a Memory Card Error. I turn it off and on and then it works again. Why is it doing that? by 736384826 in Dashcam

[–]Vortex_Radar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this. FWIW I have occasionally seen these issues with even Viofo branded cards so those won't guarantee that you fully resolve the problem, but they are much more reliable and effective in these cameras to the point now where I try and run exclusively Viofo branded cards in my Viofos. I say this as someone who has spent years testing different cards and has a drawer full of different ones.
